Lurie told the Elderly Elf everything, including that mysterious book. After hearing it all, the Elderly Elf’s expression changed drastically. He asked to see the book Lurie mentioned. Only after a long while did he finally speak.
“This is the Elven Codex of the elves. And you... will become the elves’ new king.”
Lurie was obviously stunned too. She hadn’t expected that plain, unremarkable book to be the Elven Codex. She’d expected even less that the Elderly Elf wanted her to become the elves’ king.
“Huh? Become king? Me?”
Lurie hurriedly waved her hands. Even among elves, she was still considered young. Becoming king was something she didn’t even dare think about. Besides, she’d much rather be an ordinary elf than some king.
“Mm... well, fair enough. You really aren’t suitable right now.”
The Elderly Elf rubbed Lurie’s head. The little one before him was indeed talented, but in his eyes, she was still just a young elf barely in her teens. If she became king now, it would probably be hard to convince anyone.
Then the Elderly Elf asked Lurie to describe her dream. Starting from the wolf pack she encountered, Lurie told him everything. Then came the chaos within the group, which caused a large number of people to die under the blazing sun. More were lost while crossing mountains and another jungle. By the time they reached the spatial rift, only a handful remained.
The Elderly Elf let out a long sigh. He understood all of it. A migration was filled with countless hardships. In the end, only a few could ever reach the destination.
“Oh, right. I saw humans in the dream. They looked a lot like the Sorceresses who attacked the Grand Library.”
“Them again. They really do linger like a curse.”
The Elderly Elf rubbed his brow. Compared to an uncertain future, prophecy was something bound to happen. All he could do was try his best to lessen the scale of the disaster.
“The information you brought is very valuable. I’ll make good use of it. Oh, right.”
The Elderly Elf picked up the book and tapped the blood-stained page at the end. The book instantly drilled into Lurie’s forehead. A sharp headache hit her at once, but at the Elderly Elf’s insistence, she endured it.
“Hold on. Once the pain fades, use your mind to sense this book.”
The Elderly Elf led Lurie along for a while. After the pain in her mind completely disappeared, he instructed the nearby elders to look after her. He also told them that Lurie was the hope for the elves’ revival.
Naturally, the elders didn’t dare neglect the Elderly Elf’s words. If one had to say who held the most prestige among the elves now, it was obviously him.
After arranging everything, the Elderly Elf found the greatsword woman and the Dual Blade Sorceress. He told them part of what he had seen and heard, but concealed the existence of the Elven Codex. As their ally, he could tell them almost anything. But not the Elven Codex. That was the root of the elves.
At this moment, Lurie’s consciousness sank inward. Looking into her own mind, she found a book floating quietly before her. Its appearance was different from the so-called Elven Codex she had held before. The book before her now was broad and heavy, far more like what an Elven Codex should be.
There was a subtle connection between Lurie and the book. She had a feeling that this really was the Elven Codex she had held earlier. She just didn’t know why it had changed into this form.
Following the Elderly Elf’s instructions, Lurie began flipping through the book. Aside from the history of the elves, she saw quite a lot of elven magic inside. There were even thoughtful notes written beside them, as if afraid the reader wouldn’t understand.
So Lurie started learning.
This was the Elven Codex, after all!
She had no idea why the Elven Codex had chosen an unlucky girl like her, but now that she had the chance to learn more magic, then of course she was going to...
Learn!
The first thing she turned to was spatial magic. The spatial magic researched by the elves wasn’t especially powerful. At most, it could tear open a slit. But that slit had eventually developed into the elves’ storage magic. For that, they really had to thank the contributions of previous generations.
Lurie learned happily. She could feel her wisdom growing. She could feel her affinity with magic deepening. She could feel...
the wail of this land.
As she kept learning, everything around her turned into darkness. Then the first layer of darkness scattered, and a giant figure appeared in the sky. The giant gazed at the firmament. The reflection in Its left eye became the moon, and the reflection in Its right eye became the sun.
But they were only reflections.
It seized a piece of darkness and shaped it into dragons. It gave those dragons the names Prophecy, Nature, Time, Space, and Life.
“You are the eye of the future, the record of history. Your name is Prophecy.”
“You are the root of all things, the source of life. Your name is Nature.”
“You are the measure of the cosmos, the keeper of time, the beacon of the world. Your name is Time.”
“You are the wall of the cosmos, the support of space, the foundation of all things. Your name is Space.”
“You are the loving mother of all things, the gaze of life. Your name is Life.”
The moment Time and Space were created, they merged into the world. Prophecy remained by Its side. Nature and Life began creating the world, but every attempt ended in failure.
It looked up at the boundless darkness, unbearably alone. How deeply It longed for someone to speak to, someone who could listen. It wished that within this dark expanse, other life would appear, not merely five servants without selfhood.
Lurie could feel Its loneliness.
One day, It cut off a part of Its own soul. It erased everything in that fragment and nurtured a new life from nothing. Unlike the five great dragons, this one was not directly created from Its power. Dragons that could not think were no different from puppets.
That soul grew just as It had foreseen. It grew, and grew... until in the end, it became as large as Itself. It created a body for him and named him “Child.”
But after the naming was complete, tears fell from Its eyes.
Because It saw the future.
It saw the future in which It would be killed by Its own child.
It wanted to kill the child before It, but Its heart softened.
Because the child before It called It—
“Father.”
Time passed. The child before It had already grown over a hundred meters tall. During that time, It had peered into the future more than once, yet the ending never changed. But on this day, the future changed.
They lived in harmony.
They created the world together.
It saw a beautiful future.
“Father.”
The child came to It, and It gladly embraced him. But then a power identical to Its own suddenly surged forth and rapidly destroyed Its body. Formless forces began tearing against each other. The power within It started draining away, flowing into the figure before It.
“The future... wasn’t supposed to be like this!”
“That was the future I created for Father. I can control time too. That is not Father’s privilege alone.”
After bowing to the father who had given him life, he began greedily tearing at the power spilling from his father’s body. But at that moment, his father grabbed his shoulder, and endless power surged in from the darkness.
The darkness became sharp blades and swords. They cut off his limbs, split open his abdomen, and tore his body apart into twenty-four seals.
[Father]
It loved all things. Even though Its child had once intended to kill It, It still did not kill him. Instead, It set down seals.
But after doing all that, It realized Its life had already reached its end. Its child had taken most of Its power and authority. Because of that, the wounds on Its body had become irreversible.
Just as It was about to reclaim Its power from Its child, It saw the future once more. At the moment It fell, life would be born into the world.
It hesitated.
Compared to power, what It could endure even less was loneliness.
So It began to observe. It discovered that the power scattering from Its body had woven itself into invisible threads, and the blood It spilled actually contained life.
It watched those lives grow, gain wisdom, and build civilizations. They were far beneath It, yet somehow, It no longer seemed alone.
So It allowed Its body to keep sinking. The once-empty universe began to fill with life and vitality. Every cell of Its body, every strand of Its flesh, became the veins of the earth, the paths of rivers, the outlines of mountains. The land born from the Abyss was no longer dead void, but a place filled with the possibility of life.
When Its left eye became the moon, that faint silver light flowed like a gentle stream across the earth, illuminating the corners of the night. It sheltered the nocturnal creatures born from Blood, and guided lost lives on their way. Every waxing and waning of the moon was the tender gaze of Its left eye, Its endless care for the world.
Its right eye became the sun. That blazing fire gave life the energy it needed. Every time the sun rose, it nourished all things with endless light and heat. The sun’s radiance illuminated the world. Every rise and fall was Its promise to life, Its hope for the growth of all things.
The Dragon of Time and the Dragon of Space selected a patch of earth and buried the twenty-four seals beneath the land. Time became the lock. Space formed the walls, isolating everything outside.
Its gaze turned beyond the darkness. Then, with the last of Its strength, It casually reached out once more. Darkness began to gather, and slowly took the shape of a dragon.
“You are the final Order, the origin of unity. Your name is... Calamity.”
After doing all this, It closed Its eyes and murmured:
“Only the soul is free from loneliness.”
At last, Its soul sank to the deepest part of the darkness. There, It became the broadest continent of all. There, the Dragon of Nature brought over the sun and moon phantoms It had created before, and made the sun, moon, and nature that belonged solely to this world.
The Dragon of Life carried over a portion of Its heart’s blood and scattered it across that wasteland. And so, within that barren and lonely soul, life began to grow.
The Dragon of Prophecy recorded everything. Then, together with the newborn Calamity Dragon, it came to rest upon that continent.
Life was born upon that land. Humans and Monsters alike were all Its children.
After Its soul became the earth, a part of it still remained. It narrowed Its eyes, its phantom flickering. Just like with Its child, It erased everything from that fragment, making it utterly pure.
“You are the soul of all things, the dream of life, the happiness and beauty of this world.”
That pure soul became a dragon. With a proud cry, it scattered into countless points of light and melted into the dreams of all living beings.
And that was the story of the Creator God and the seven great dragons.
