The fall of the Divine Bloom shook the whole continent like a bell struck at dawn. Yet the souls in Miracle City saw more: a god fall, and... a god born.
While scarlet petals still drifted like embers, a nameless wind whooshed across the land, old as pine resin. Grass and trees swayed strangely; beasts paused mid-slaughter, all gazing afar.
Flowers seemed to sing; wind and cloud cheered like surf. The vault above wasn’t blue glass anymore, but a draped rainbow. Seven hues flowed, blinking like fish.
Under Yiyue Qianliu and Angel Daniel’s battle, Nightfall Forest had become a wasteland, sand-colored and silent. Only Miracle City, wrapped by Ouyang’s barrier, stood like an island. In blasts fierce enough to fell gods, nothing nearby could endure.
From overhead, Nightfall Forest’s ground had sunk into a bowl, a dry sea. Only Miracle City rose bright in that basin like a lone lantern.
Then rainbow light fell as rain upon the desert plain. Where it struck the cracked earth, life sprang like spring water; grass speared up, saplings shot into towering trees. At that moment, Yiyue Qianliu, fallen upon the barrier, was veiled in prismatic glow.
Ouyang removed the barrier; the rainbow rain drifted over Miracle City like gauze.
“This... what is this?” A man with a knife-scar lifted his palm like a leaf, trying to catch the colored rain. It touched his skin and vanished like mist.
“Huh... Scarface, your scar’s gone.” His companion rubbed his eyes like waking from a dream. The man had served in the army; a battle ten years ago had carved that savage line. Everyone called him Scar.
Now the scar was gone. Scar touched his cheek, expecting that raised ridge. He felt only smooth river-stone. Gone. The scar was gone. He steadied his breath, and the crowd’s chatter washed over him like birdsong. Listening closer, he heard the same surprise everywhere—sicknesses and aches, gone like frost in sun.
More dramatic: a man with a severed arm. Under everyone’s stares, the limb grew back, raw life like a branch sprouting.
They couldn’t see the depths, but they all thought it had to be the rain in the sky.
“I see... I see!” A few people went wild with joy, rooted where they stood, faces lit like dawn. “This is the world’s secret. This is power’s peak. Problems that hounded me for decades just clicked in one breath.”
An old man with snow-white hair had been hunched in a shadowy corner like a tree about to fall. Now his bent back straightened like a bow. His plain clothes billowed without wind. Power rolled from him like thunder over hills.
“Sky Knight. That old fossil broke through to Third Tier... He was a Grand Knight twenty years ago. Didn’t think he’d reach Sky Knight in this lifetime.” Someone recognized him and sighed like rain. This rainbow rain healed bodies, and it sharpened strength.
While they marveled at the elder, a vast magic circle flowered on the ground like a moonrise. “Success. I finally did it. A hundred years—hahahaha—after a hundred years, I’ve stepped onto the mortal pinnacle!”
This was another white-haired elder, also lifted by the colored rain, but his commotion was a storm. “The mortal pinnacle... could it be...?”
“Fourth Tier. Archmage!”
From his words, everyone guessed it: a Magus had ascended to Archmage, a Demigod-grade mage. Watching that Archmage weep with joy like a child, people all breathed out together. A legendary Archmage cried, same as anyone, when happiness broke the dam.
As most eyes chased one breakthrough after another, a few noticed stranger ripples.
A boy hugged the dog in his arms. He didn’t know why the crowd cheered, but instinct swept him along like a tide. Then a strange voice slipped into his ear like a whispering reed.
“Master, what is everyone happy about?”
Master? Who? The boy glanced around, hunting the voice like a firefly. “Master, what’s wrong?”
The voice came again. This time he caught it: it came from the pet in his arms. “Hey, Xiao Hei, you can talk?”
Animals speaking wasn’t unheard of. But those were Third-Tier beasts, peers to human Sky Knights and Magi. For a normal mutt or cat to speak, you’d need something like the Spring of Life.
Yet the black pup in his arms was forming words. Joy burst like fireworks. Today was a day painted for him. His dad’s broken arm had regrown. And the little black dog who’d kept him company for years was talking.
Surprise stacked upon surprise.
Similar scenes kept blooming around Miracle City’s outer wards. Some animals spoke. Some plants took human shape like spirits from old tales. Others couldn’t speak, yet understood people and carried strange gifts. Cats that flew like sparrows. Mice that slipped through walls like smoke. White horses sprouting wings like swans. In short, chaos. Miracle City truly lived up to its name today.
“Could this... could this be the origin of Miracle City’s name?” People guessed aloud, thoughts circling like swallows.
Ouyang, hearing it, stood thunderstruck. To tell the truth, he didn’t even know who picked the name Miracle City. Back then, they said a city rooted inside fearsome Nightfall Forest was miracle enough. It had nothing to do with the wonders of today.
And the name Demon King’s City had clearly been tossed into some forgotten corner like an old banner.
In the sky, the corpse-still Yiyue Qianliu slowly stood. In a blink, countless flowers burst across Nightfall Forest like flames after rain.
“A single thought, and flowers bloom... That’s a god’s power. The gods-slayer climbed onto a god’s throne.” The elder who’d just advanced from Magus to Archmage gazed at Yiyue Qianliu in the sky, not overly surprised. If you can slay a god, not becoming one would be the surprise.
Soon the Archmage, a Demigod, read the pattern. “This is the world’s favor. A god was born, so grace falls as rain to reward it. We were too close to that one, so we shared the rain.”
“God... I, Archmage Bazeke, pay my respects to the divine.” Though Bazeke was old as stone, witnessing a god’s birth shook him. His salute drew others’ eyes.
“God? That person became a god?”
“Seems so. He slew a god.”
“Really?”
The more they thought, the more Bazeke’s words rang true. One by one they bowed toward Yiyue Qianliu in the sky, and some went farther—prostrating in worship. The scene was a whirlpool.
The rainbow rain faded like a spent squall. Yet the Divine Bloom still drifted, petals flying like snow.
“Ahem. Residents of Miracle City, allow me a few words.”
While everyone buzzed over the miracles, Ouyang’s voice rolled across every corner of the outer wards like a bronze bell.
“Hey, that voice... it’s the City Lord!”
“Quiet, listen to the City Lord.”
The noisy crowd fell silent like a lake at dusk.
Yiyue Qianliu descended from high sky to the height of the city wall, so all could see. Ouyang rose to match him, shoulder to shoulder above the battlements. “Everyone, allow me to introduce him. This fresh newborn god is Yiyue Qianliu. From today on, the outer wards’ security falls under him. Cheer for our supreme commander!” He started clapping, hands ringing like sticks.
Below, the gawking bystanders felt that undefinable awe prickle their skin. They followed Ouyang’s lead and clapped along.
Just as Ouyang prepared to bow out, a cheer boiled up from the crowd.
“Long live the City Lord, long live Miracle City!”
“Long live the City Lord, long live Miracle City!”
“Long live the City Lord, long live Miracle City!”
From this day, the word “Miracle” in Miracle City held a deeper weight, like ink sinking into paper. No one knew when it began, but a legend spread of Miracle City’s nine hundred and ninety-nine miracles.
Cats that flew. Gods walking the streets. A pinewood frozen in snow that never melted. A door that opened into dreamland. The tales grew wilder with every telling, and from this day on, Miracle City owned a history all its own.
After the show ended, the city still boiled like a pot. Everyone knew how casually people name their pets: Xiao Hei, Ah Huang, Wangcai... With the rain of miracles, animals got smarter. At worst, they understood simple commands like rain understands the roof.
So one shout of “Wangcai!” from a man who’d lost his pet sent a swarm of dogs trotting his way like a tide, with a few cats mixed in for good measure.
“Woof! Wangcai is my name. Where’d you steal it?”
“Woof-woof! Wangcai is obviously mine...”
The dogs argued tooth and claw, their barks flaring like firecrackers. Perched on a rooftop, watching it all, Ouyang felt an old heaviness settle like dusk.
“Miracle City... miracle my ass. Who still remembers this city’s first name was the Demon King’s City?”
He let out a long sigh. His lonely silhouette blurred—and vanished from the rooftop like a wisp of smoke.
