"Do those hidden classes really exist?" NotGivingUp couldn’t help blurting out, his doubt dropping like a stone into a still pond.
He’d played since launch, a veteran watching patches roll in like tides. Hidden classes were rumor-smoke in guide posts.
As for seeing one up close? Never—like chasing a mirage across hot sand.
Now this NPC says the newbie beside us is hidden class. Who can swallow that in one gulp, like trying to down lightning?
"Have you ever seen a level 30 with attack and agility breaking six thousand?" Nana Toki asked, voice cool as moonlight on steel.
NotGivingUp: "..." Fine. He accepted it, a leaf yielding to the current.
"Okay, cut the chatter. Tell me this patch’s event tasks," Nana Toki said, impatience pricking like sleet. "After we’re done, I’ll keep ferrying folks through the Divine Demon Tower."
As an NPC, she couldn’t see the new notices, fog the devs only lift for players, so tasks had to be pried from them.
"Uh… this one’s actually pretty fun." NotGivingUp leaned in, opening his quest pane like a map in lamplight. "The devs made every task public, all at once."
"As long as one player finishes a task, the whole server gets that task counted," he went on, words rolling like a cart on cobblestones. "But rewards are smaller—one tenth of the pioneer’s cut."
"When all listed tasks are cleared, the devs drop a final task. Finish that, and our region’s level cap breaks like dawn over a ridge."
"So even if someone doesn’t lift a finger and stays a salted fish, they still ride the wave and get the cap break?" Nana Toki’s eyes flashed, sharp as a crane’s beak.
"Yeah. To curb that, they added an extra metric," NotGivingUp said, tone dry as winter reeds. "Hit 1,500 total activity during the event, and you get a Gold Weapon choice box. Salty fish get netted."
He cut Nana Toki a side-eye like a knife’s glint. "You’re not planning to duck the bill, are you?"
"Ah-hem—how could I?" Nana Toki straightened, mock-serious as a fox in a scholar’s robe. "This little demon’s got professional ethics. Stiffing people? Not happening."
"Letting you fend for yourselves while I wait out a patch? Never crossed my mind. Don’t smear me with muddy water."
NotGivingUp: "..." He felt tricked by fate, like a fisherman hauling up a shoe.
"Bottom line—tell me the tasks. We’ll split paths like streams from a spring."
"Uh… better let my three little bros explain." NotGivingUp jerked his chin toward the Hard-to-Name trio.
"Eh? I thought you were their lackey." Nana Toki blinked, surprise fluttering like a sparrow. Turned out this cheerful ditz held unexpected weight.
This NPC sure knew how to rub it in. If NotGivingUp could beat her, he’d have lunged like a wolf by now.
"Spill it—what do you three know?"
Nana Toki waved to Nan Jin, dawdling behind her like a quiet fawn. "Go play nearby," she murmured, then turned her gaze back on the trio.
She was surprised they hadn’t outed her true identity to NotGivingUp—silence like snow covering tracks. Looks like they really feared she might lay a hand on their guileless guild leader.
Meeting Nana Toki’s gaze was like staring into polished obsidian. After two heartbeats, HardToName stepped up to outline the event tasks.
"Tasks split in two," he said, voice steady as a drum. "Collect fixed items, or fight—kill the marked bosses and mobs. Both are messy and many; both devour time. Choose with care."
"Drop out halfway and you waste progress like spilling rice. With limited tasks, other players will tussle for the same slots," NamingIsSoHard added, words neat as stitched silk.
"Combat first, sure. But choosing which bosses is the crux," ThisNameIsHard explained, tone crisp as frost. "Our guild’s stacked with revive items, so the captain maxes DPS and never hires healers."
"If a boss team-wipes us or runs, we bleed value like a cut wineskin."
"Relax. With this little demon around, Moonlit West River never wipes," Nana Toki said, patting NotGivingUp’s shoulder like dusting off ash. "If I can’t beat it, I run. I’ll carry your last spark."
NotGivingUp: "..." This NPC was getting cheekier, like a cat knocking cups off the table.
"Our initial target is the Shadow Basilisk in Basilisk Forest. Killing it pushes our progress hard," HardToName said, ignoring Nana’s antics.
"Shadow Basilisk, then… we move now." Nana Toki, driven by the System’s task like wind at her back, set off the moment the brief was done.
"Yuzu… Yuzu…" Perfect timing—Nan Jin drifted back from her loop like a leaf on the breeze. "This is for you."
"Hm? What is it?" Nana Toki took the slick, black, soft orb, weighing it like a river stone. "Where’d you pick this up?"
"Uh… over there." Nan Jin pointed toward a swath of black forest, finger like a reed. Nana followed her gaze—the old Basilisk Forest.
So this thing is…
[Event Item: Heart of the Shadow Basilisk]
Well, damn.
"You took down the Shadow Basilisk?" NotGivingUp stared at the heart in Nana’s hand, composure shattering like clay.
Even for a hidden class, that’s outrageous—like a hawk snatching a boar.
"Mm… I didn’t mean to." Nan Jin’s voice was timid as rain on paper. "I only went to play because Yuzu said so. It struck first. I had no choice but to strike back."
She rubbed her small hands, eyes like wet apricots. "Yuzu, you won’t blame me, right?"
Nana Toki: "..." This sweet fool just ‘had no choice’ and killed a boss. Terrifying, like silk hiding a blade.
"So strong."
"It’s really the Shadow Basilisk’s heart." On the quest pane, beside [Exterminate the Shadow Basilisk], the kill credit glowed with Nan Jin’s ID. NotGivingUp went blank, mind like a white field of snow.
"With her here, what boss can block Moonlit West River?" he breathed, hope rising like a red sun.
"Then why wait? Line up the next." Nana Toki hadn’t expected Nan Jin to hit that hard; she pressed the Hard-to-Name trio for the next boss’s location.
"Er… right… next is the Shadowfiend at Sky’s End Cliff." HardToName raised the map, rattling off coordinates like beads. They bolted for the cliff, unaware the world chat was detonating.
[World] GoubuliBuns: "Holy smoke—did you see it? A level 30 newbie just carved up an 85 Shadow Basilisk, like lightning splitting a pine."
[World] TaobaoVIP: "It’s absurd. Level 30 with 6k+ attack, wearing starter village cloth—if that’s not a bug, what is?"
[World] TianqingWaitsForRain: "You seen a level 30 bug up to six thousand? My treasure wife doesn’t even hit six—clouds laugh at me."
[World] CutestInTheWorld: "Your treasure wife is my treasure wife. And bug or not, they clear event tasks for you—ride the wave, be happy."
[World] GoubuliBuns: "Not the same! Six thousand attack! Level thirty! Do you even grasp that—like a tiger in a kitten’s coat?"
[World] Operative No.1: "/thinking /thinking Got it. Go on."
[World] GoubuliBuns: "I stepped into Basilisk Forest to scout stats for a team. That guy rushed in and pounded it flat—like a hammer on clay. No time for a screenshot."
[World] Operative No.2: "Pfft."
[World] GoubuliBuns: "/deadpan /deadpan What are you laughing at?"
[World] Operative No.2: "Something happy crossed my mind—like a sunbeam."
[World] GoubuliBuns: "What happy thing?"
[World] Operative No.2: "I just one-shot an event boss with a pro at the Divine Demon Tower perimeter."
[World] Operative No.1: "Pfft."
[World] GoubuliBuns: "/deadpan /deadpan And you—why laugh?"
[World] Operative No.1: "I also one-shot an event boss with a pro at the Tower perimeter. /holding-back-laughter"
