Chapter 27: Even a Puppet’s Body Can Fight!

The waterfall Dixue had sensed wasn’t far, its white roar hanging over the rocks like a torn silk veil.

Water scoured smooth pebbles, beads of spray leaping like colored fish. Dense leaves filtered the sun like jade shutters. The air was thick with mist you could touch.

The waterfall’s breath churned the valley. Water and air mana pooled here like blue and clear ponds, perfect for Yue Liuyi to tune her borrowed body.

“First, try lifting your hand. Can you do that, Xiao Yue?”

“I’ve tried that before. No problem!”

Yue Liuyi raised her hand, slow as a lotus leaf rising through still water.

“A bit slow, but steady. If it’s like this, try it faster.”

“Okay… whoa! Sorry!”

She threw her hand up too hard. Unused to the motion, her finger jabbed the silver‑haired girl right in a soft place, like poking a springy cloud.

“Eeh? Xiao Yue, you’re such a little perv! At night, you can touch all you want. Right now, study.”

“Ugh—no! LittleSnow, you’ve got it wrong!”

So the two girls ended up on the river beach by the falls, studying how a body pillow could fight.

It felt uncanny and wondrous, like opening a hidden gate in the heart. Guiding herself another way, Yue Liuyi let currents curl around her like warm riverwater. Her body went light, as if she were floating in a clear lake with gravity asleep.

And because it was a pillow‑body, it bent into impossible shapes. Even a tumble in midair didn’t bring the usual spin of dizziness; the world stayed crisp as mountain air.

“Xiao Yue, watch it! Place your updrafts right, or you’ll flash everyone.”

“Huh!?”

Startled, she looked down at her little skirt. She’d been playing too deep, and her ‘proper young lady’ image had flown off like a startled sparrow.

“B‑but I’m a body pillow. If it shows my panties, that’s no big deal, right?”

“Nope. Xiao Yue’s panties are precious treasure. Not for random display.”

“Uuugh, fine. I’ll try…”

She shifted the way the air ran. In a spark, she finally got why anime had so many anti‑gravity skirts. Those girls probably treated airflow control like breathing, so even upside down, not a thing showed.

Being a girl means watching a thousand small tides. With that weary little thought, she adjusted the wind like fingers smoothing silk.

Under Dixue’s patient coaching, Yue Liuyi began steering her own body, floating and moving midair like a drifting kite.

She drifted over grass bright as a green sea, crossed the river like a shade on glass, and brushed the treetops. Bare feet stayed clean as dew. No climbing needed; blossoms came to hand like stars plucked from low sky.

“Yaa! This is so fun!”

A clean breeze stroked the blue‑haired girl’s cheek. Her azure hair flew like ribbons in a festival wind, tracing bright arcs that wove and unwove.

The feeling of holding the wind was bliss, like a bird slipping free of the world’s pull. For a heartbeat, she felt she could fly forever.

That was only in her head, though. In truth, even with her magic, Yue Liuyi could only keep her pillow‑body hovering about five meters up.

“Only five meters? Still good. It’ll dodge a lot of melee strikes. Awesome!”

With every small motion, she found herself liking this pillow‑body more.

“Didn’t expect you to grasp it so fast! You were born to be a body pillow!”

“I was happy a second ago, but somehow, LittleSnow, you made it sound weird…”

“Huh? I’m really praising you. This spell takes years to go from entry to fluency. I didn’t think you’d master it in a day.”

“Hah? Years?”

“Mm. First step, let the soul step out. That alone is hard. You must resonate with the object you’ll inhabit, which for most people takes ages.”

“Then what?”

“Then comes stability and control after you enter. That’s even harder.”

“W‑why?”

“When a soul first uses an unfamiliar body, it rebels on instinct. Every ingrained reflex must be remade. It’s like teaching a baby to walk again—slow and brutal.”

“Eh? Then what am I!?”

“You’re a natural. A day and a half as a pillow, and you’re already this smooth.”

“Ah…”

Dixue’s joy shone like clear sunlight, and Yue Liuyi finally knew why she’d moved so fast.

Because she hadn’t started out in a girl’s body at all.

All the time she’d spent in a girl’s form had built a quiet muscle memory. Moving and speaking came easy, like a song she’d learned by heart.

So once she warmed up, she could steer the pillow‑body freely. Piloting a pillow was simpler than being a girl by a country mile.

She hadn’t known she’d hidden such a knack. It felt like finding a gold vein under the stones in her own yard.

“Now, Xiao Yue has become a true doll‑weapon. A weapon in a darling doll’s shape!”

“Kinda sounds scary…”

“Scary? I think it’s adorable. Doll‑weapon Xiao Yue! It even sounds soft and fluffy.”

“Soft and fluffy is not cool at all. Not cool!”

“When we’re back at camp, I’ll give you some upgrades. You’ll be even stronger.”

“Don’t talk about people like they’re toys!”

“Hehe~”

And with that, the two girls left the waterfall’s silver veil and headed back toward camp, side by side like twin swallows.
