2. The Blow

No need to say it—the two were, of course, Yugami Rexiao and Yugami Rexi, and Yugong Jingyue knew them like stars she’d named herself, so—

“Rexiao-chan, Rexi-chan, come knead my shoulders, pretty please ☆” Her voice lilted like a breeze over warm water.

She turned with a grin, pale-gold eyes catching light like twin moons skimming a lake.

Whoosh.

Too bad—at the same time, a thin veil of light bloomed over both sisters, like dew on glass, and her charm slid off harmlessly.

“Phew, good thing the Book of Day auto-guards its holder, or you’d have won, Second Sis,” Rexiao said, like sun breaking through fog.

“Mm-hmm, Second Sis, your control mystic eyes don’t work on us,” Rexi chimed in, calm as night tide against stone.

The two shot Yugong Jingyue a smug look, puffing out their just-right chests like little sparrows fluffing feathers.

“Indeed, such a pity,” Jingyue sighed, like a wave folding back—then—

Clap. She pressed her palms together, tilted her head, and smiled soft as spring rain. “Rexiao-chan, Rexi-chan, welcome home, and congrats on inheriting the twin Books of Day and Night.”

“Second Sis… mm, we’re back!” Rexiao’s voice rose like a kite catching wind.

“...Second Sis, thank you.” Rexi’s words were quiet as falling snow.

They dove into Yugong Jingyue’s arms, burying their faces in her generous chest like kittens in warm cotton.

“Aiya, still love to cuddle like before, huh~” She laughed and wrapped them up, rubbing her cheek against their hair, eyes drifting shut like dusk.

A calm sea, a salt-sweet wind, and sisters in an embrace—together they wove a hush so gentle it felt like time froze mid-ripple.

After a long while…

The three finally drew apart, like lanterns separating on a still river.

“Second Sis, there’s something I’ve wanted to ask,” Rexiao said, leaving the warmth like stepping from sun to shade.

“What is it?” Jingyue’s tone was mild, like tea steam rising.

“Why are you here fishing by yourself?” Rexi voiced the doubt, words neat as stacked shells.

“Oh, that.” Jingyue adjusted her hook, motions simple as ripples. “Nothing big—got bored, figured I’d pass time with the line and the tide.”

“Bored? Aren’t you always glued to our dearest big brother? Don’t tell me you got tired of him,” Rexiao teased, like a pebble skipping water.

“Second Sis leaving Big Brother to fish alone is super weird—why?” Rexi pressed, steady as a pendulum.

“Of course I’m not tired of him! How could I ever tire of Little Emperor?” Her retort flashed like sunlight on steel.

She sighed then, helpless as a leaf in wind. “A year ago, Little Emperor inherited the Ancestor’s mantle. You know his dream—to walk the world like the Ancestor did, horizon to horizon.”

“So, not long after inheriting, he left the Central Continent,” she finished, voice even as a straight horizon.

“What?! Our dearest big brother isn’t even on the Central Continent?!” Rexiao’s shock cracked like ice.

“Big Brother…” Rexi’s whisper dimmed like a candle in draft.

The blow hit them hard—they’d just left the Daynight Sanctuary, ready to spring a surprise like fireworks, only to find he’d long since sailed beyond their sky.

But soon their eyes steadied, like oars finding rhythm again—he left the Central Continent, yes, but nothing said they couldn’t go find him.

“So, how’s Littlesky doing?” Rexiao asked, curiosity sparking like flint. “I remember she’s an Elf User. How strong is she now?”

“With Littlesky’s talent, she must be really strong by now, right?” Rexi added, tone smooth as dark water.

They weren’t just aiming to shock their dearest big brother—they meant to show off before Yumigawa Nozomi too, shining their Rule Book inheritance like twin blades.

“Oh, Littlesky?” Jingyue’s smile curved like a crescent. “Half a year ago, she signed a contract with the Wind Spirit King, and her support magic stepped into the Divine Realm.”

“So, she’s already become an Elven Divine Envoy.” Her words rang clear as a bell.

“What! Elven Divine Envoy?! That little gremlin totally toggled her levels like a cheat code!” Rexiao yelped, thunderstruck.

“Same here—eleven or twelve and already an Elven Divine Envoy? How are we supposed to compete?” Rexi groaned, like a boat in high chop.

It stung—they’d spent years in the Daynight Sanctuary, finally inheriting the twin Books, powering up to the Holy Peak of the Sacred Realm like climbing a jagged cliff. Yet Littlesky, who barely trained and clung to Big Brother like ivy, somehow soared into divinity, making their sweat feel like rain lost in the sea. Even Big Sis isn’t that monstrous… or wait—if Big Sis had ditched sword arts and gone all-in on magic, she’d probably have hit Overdeity Level by now, like a comet straight through the firmament.

“Hehe, one more tidbit.” Amused by their faces, Jingyue laughed like chimes in wind. “Littlesky and Qianji left the Central Continent half a year ago to find Little Emperor.”

“That brat!” Rexiao flared, anger rising like a brushfire. “Becoming an Elven Divine Envoy is one thing—but leaving to find our dearest big brother without us?”

“Rexiao-chan, it wasn’t on a whim,” Jingyue added, her voice a cool brook. “She and Qianji left with Father and Mother’s approval.”

“A sneak run… unforgivable. Rexiao.” Rexi’s eyes chilled like frost.

“Mm, truly unforgivable!” Rexiao agreed, fire and ice in duet.

Then—

“Book of Day (Book of Night), page thirteen—activate transfer magic, time-space shift!” Their voices cut the air like paired blades.

The walls of space thinned like ice under noon sun, and just as the sisters were about to slip into the seam—

Yugong Jingyue stopped them: “O space, heed my order—lock.” Her words fell like a seal-stamp of jade.

The air stilled; the rift healed like skin knitting, and their transfer failed as cleanly as a tide turning.

“Second Sis, what’s that supposed to mean?! Why stop us?” Rexiao bristled, sparks snapping.

“Second Sis!” Rexi glared, cold as a winter star.

Their anger flared, but Jingyue only smiled, unbothered as a cat in sun. “You just got back. You can’t run off without even seeing our parents, can you?”

“And the Mizumi Clan’s quiet these days, like a house after rain,” she added, tone playful as a swallow. “Your Second Sis has been bored out of her mind, so you’re staying a few days to play with me.”

“Uh… fair point. We’ll go find our dearest big brother in a week,” Rexiao conceded, like wind easing.

“Mm… Second Sis makes sense. No objections,” Rexi agreed, calm as moonlight.

They thought it over, and their anger ebbed like a tide leaving shells.

“Great! I finally won’t be dying of boredom the next few days!” Jingyue whooped and hugged them both, joy bubbling like a spring.

“Ugh, Second Sis, gentler! I can’t breathe,” Rexiao wheezed, face pink as a peach.

“So soft… so sweet…” Rexi murmured, eyes going hazy like mist.

“Hey, hey! Rexi, don’t faint on me! Stay with me!” Rexiao panicked, flapping like a startled sparrow.

“Now this is getting interesting, hehe,” Jingyue purred, amusement bright as a lantern flame.

“Second Sis, don’t squeeze so tight—Rexi’s about to go under!” Rexiao protested, voice skipping like a stone.

Looks like things got lively, like a festival sudden and bright.
