Leon didn't want to cause unnecessary misunderstandings, so he didn’t talk with Constantine for too long.
After he finished saying, "My kid will definitely be cooler than yours," Headmaster Olette appeared in the academy square.
Constantine then went to discuss some matters with the headmaster and vice principal.
The two left the rooftop one after another, with a gap of about two minutes in between.
Leon walked out of the teaching building, crossed the crowd, and found Roswitha and Claudia chatting together.
"Hi, senior. Here to see Helena off?"
Leon greeted them proactively.
Claudia nodded. "The original plan was to let Helena come on her own, but I also wanted to try out some different parenting methods."
She smiled and looked at Leon. "Learning from you and Roswitha. Teach me sometime when you're free."
"You're too kind, senior. We don’t really have any special parenting methods; we just go with the flow," Leon replied humbly.
"Did Constantine come to see you earlier?" Roswitha asked.
Leon nodded. "Yeah."
"What were you two talking about?"
"We discussed the matter of re-enrolling his clansmen's children. Constantine is quite responsible; he even personally sought out Headmaster Olette to talk about it."
Roswitha nodded thoughtfully. "Oh, that's indeed quite serious of him."
"By the way, the Ghost Lotus Grass you borrowed from me before—wasn’t that for saving Constantine's daughter? Did he mention that?" Claudia asked.
"Yeah. Heffy—oh, Constantine's daughter's name is Heffy—she's fine now. She's slowly recovering with the help of healers of the Crimson Flame Dragon Clan."
Leon paused, scratching his temple as if trying to say something more but hesitating.
Roswitha tilted her head slightly, immediately noticing that the man hadn't finished his sentence.
"What else did he tell you? Don’t try lying to me. I can see it in your expression," the Dragon Queen asked seriously.
But before Leon could continue, Claudia spoke up in mild surprise. "You can tell even that?"
The Sea Dragon Princess, who had seen and heard much in her lifetime, could usually infer a person's intentions from their micro expressions during conversation.
But Leon's earlier behavior had been so subtle that Claudia thought he and Constantine had only exchanged a few brief words.
"I've been married to him for nearly six years; I know exactly what goes on in his head."
"I'm thinking about you, wifey," Leon quipped.
"...Idiot."
"Alright, I’ve had enough of your couple's show-off routine. Can we get to the actual topic, please?"
Roswitha, with cheeks reddening slightly, turned her head away, folding her arms in front of her chest while her tail tip awkwardly brushed the ground.
Leon cleared his throat, organized his thoughts, and said, "Constantine said..."
Claudia raised an eyebrow. Her curiosity was piqued. "Said what?"
"He said~"
Roswitha also turned to face him, urging, "What exactly did Constantine say?"
"He said he wants the two of us to have another baby."
Roswitha & Claudia: ?
A light breeze swept through the air, unable to disperse the awkward confusion hanging around them.
And as if to emphasize the absurdity of the moment, a crow flew by above their heads, leaving a trail of ellipses in its wake.
Despite the sheer number of things wrong with Constantine's statement—so numerous that it was hard to decide where to even start complaining—Roswitha, the Silver Dragon Queen who was used to handling large matters, remained composed.
"Seriously, why? I understand why my sister keeps urging us to have another child, and I understand why my grandmother does too. But Constantine has no reason to meddle in our family matters, right?"
"Wow, your Melkevi family really likes children, huh..."
Hearing how everyone in their family was pushing the couple to have more kids, even Claudia couldn’t help but be a little moved.
Leon scratched his nose and explained, "Constantine said that one day he will definitely defeat me."
"And then?"
"And then his child will definitely defeat our child... But to make things fair, he won't have Heffy compete with Noa and Muen. That’s why he wants us to have another baby, so everyone's starting lineup is even."
"...What an absurd reason. But when you think about it being Constantine, it all makes sense."
The Crimson Flame Dragon King was notorious for being a battle maniac; this was common knowledge within the Dragon Clan.
Even so, Roswitha hadn’t expected him to extend his competitive spirit to their children.
It seemed Constantine's obsession with defeating Leon ran very deep...
"So, did you agree to it?" Claudia asked a critical question.
"I...haven't decided yet," Leon replied, walking over to Roswitha and naturally taking her hand in his own. He then continued, "Actually, Roswitha and I discussed whether we should try for a fourth child some time ago, but we haven’t made up our minds."
Claudia crossed her arms and looked at the couple. "Are you worried about something? Worried that having another baby will make Noa and others jealous?"
Roswitha shook her head. "That’s not a concern. Noa and Muen are very understanding; they wouldn’t get jealous. In fact, they’ve asked me and Leon multiple times if they could have a little sister or brother."
"Muen said she wanted an older sister," Leon chimed in.
Roswitha teased him with a playful nudge of her elbow. "She’s young and doesn’t understand. Do you not understand either?"
Leon chuckled sheepishly and held his tongue.
Roswitha rolled her eyes at him affectionately before turning back to Claudia.
"What we're actually worried about is...the current situation is still unclear. Although the Empire has already fallen, the clues we discovered afterward force us to remain vigilant. If we have a child during this time, it might delay Leon from handling important matters."
Claudia's eyes flickered thoughtfully. Her blue gaze seemed brighter as she asked, "Delay important matters? You mean continuing to track down the Empire's remnants and masterminds?"
Leon pressed his lips together and nodded slightly. "Yes."
"Ah, that is indeed important. But—"
Claudia deliberately paused, prompting the couple to pay closer attention.
"That doesn’t mean having another baby isn’t important, does it?"
The couple froze, glancing at each other silently as they waited for Claudia to continue.
"Allow me to be blunt. It's not just the Red Dragon Queen and your grandmother who adore children in the Melkevi family, is it?"
The elegant woman chuckled lightly. "You two clearly love children as well; otherwise, you wouldn’t have raised Noa and others to be so outstanding."
What Claudia said was true.
Whether or not parents love their children can be seen directly in how they raise them.
Not to mention, Leon’s reputation as a doting father preceded him—even among the Sea Dragon Clan, where Claudia had also caught wind of it.
And after Roswitha spending so many years with Leon, some of her ingrained ideas had subtly shifted as well.
During the two years when Leon was in a coma, she had been very strict with Noa and Muen. Their relationship was less like that of a mother and her daughters but more like that of a queen and her subjects.
This was par for the course; Dragon Clan parents typically raised their children in this manner. Even Claudia, before meeting Leon and Roswitha, had taken a similarly strict approach with her own daughter, Helena.
But six years of living together had long since transformed the once indifferent and stoic Silver Dragon Queen into a capable and caring mother.
In truth, both Leon and Roswitha welcomed the idea of new life. What held them back was the uncertainty of their current circumstances. They hesitated to make such a commitment in volatile times.
"Senior, you're right. Both Leon and I love children. But..."
"If you love kids and don’t reject the idea of having another, then what’s the ‘but’ for?"
Claudia smiled softly, first looking at Leon, then at Roswitha.
She could already tell what the couple was thinking.
They were worried that having another child might interfere with their current responsibilities, yet they both deeply desired another baby.
This internal conflict left them stuck, waiting for a compelling reason—a reason that would finally push them to make up their minds.
"Investigating the Empire's remnants is important, but having another baby isn’t important too?"
Claudia said, "Our Dragon Clan has always been sparse in number. Even though you two have already contributed three kids, it's still not enough."
"...Senior, the population of the Dragon Clan is indeed not large, but demanding me and Leon to shoulder all the tough responsibility is a bit......"
"You have advantages!"
"What advantages......"
"First of all, you are a love bird. You won't get divorce."
"Besides, mixed-bloods are usually cleverer."
"Last but not least, cocoon-birth can't be used frequently. Otherwise, mothers will be extremely feeble. And this is why we don't have a large population."
But live-birth didn't have this risk. After ten months of pregnancy, mothers can recover within just two weeks.
Clap---
Claudia clapped her hands and said with a smile,
"In conclusion, you two can start preparing for your fourth baby as soon as you go back home~"
