Leon brought the future scientist to Roswitha's study.
After easing the tension with the mother dragon, she had granted Leon access to most rooms in the Silver Dragon Castle.
Naturally, this included her study as well.
When the library door was pushed open, rows upon rows of neatly arranged bookshelves greeted their eyes. The elegant and understated decor added a scholarly charm to the room.
When Aurora entered, her eyes widened in surprise. Excited, her tiny fists clenched, and even her tail slightly arched. Her pink pupils glittered with anticipation and longing for books and knowledge.
It was her first time visiting Roswitha's library, so it was no surprise that she was this excited.
Leon patted Aurora's head.
"How do you like it?"
"It's amazing!"
Leon chuckled. "Sister Noa used to study here for a time, and this was also where Sister Muen got her introduction to magic. If you're eager to learn more, Aurora, the books here can definitely meet all your needs."
The collection of Roswitha’s library was vast enough to satisfy even someone like Noa, the ultimate "Involuted King." Comparatively, Aurora, a young dragon just starting out, would surely find plenty of material to explore.
Leon gave Aurora a pat on the back. "Go ahead, pick a few books that interest you. Daddy will be waiting at the desk by the floor-to-ceiling windows."
"Okay~"
Aurora dashed eagerly into the rows of bookshelves, ready to pick out her favorites.
Leon strolled over to the spot where he used to sit with Noa and Muen during their study sessions, waiting quietly.
About ten minutes later, Aurora emerged wobbling under a stack of books taller than her head. Her tail swayed behind her as she struggled to maintain her balance.
Leon shook his head with a smile and immediately went over to take the books from her arms.
"You're carrying so many—can you even finish reading them all?"
"You just don't understand, Daddy. Books are the steps a child uses to climb higher."
Leon froze for a moment.
He had definitely heard that famous quote before, but wasn’t it originally, "Books are the ladder of human progress"?
Huh?
Could it be that the human bloodline in his little daughter was starting to awaken?
No wonder Aurora seemed quieter than other young dragons and displayed such a keen interest in books. Was this the reason?
Good, good—my clever girl! You’re making Daddy so proud!
But just as Leon was starting to feel smug, he realized things might not be what they seemed.
Aurora carefully took back the books Leon had just taken from her arms, placing them one by one on the chair by the desk. Then she began stacking them layer by layer.
Finally, she climbed up onto the "little book mountain" she had built, its height allowing her to sit comfortably at the table to read.
"Look, Daddy, the ladder to progress!" Aurora proudly patted the books beneath her.
Ah.
So *this* was what she meant by "Books are the steps a child uses to climb higher"—literally.
When adults read books at a desk, they certainly didn’t need to stack a few volumes under their seat.
While marveling at his daughter's ingenuity, Leon also felt the faint spark of hope in his heart doused with cold water.
Come on, human genes! Wake up! Do something useful, human genes!
The old father walked over, seating himself across from his daughter.
"My dear, this isn’t a ladder to progress—it’s a booster seat."
"'Ladder' just sounds more literary," Aurora replied earnestly.
Leon chuckled and let his gaze fall on the books Aurora hadn’t used as a makeshift seat. "So, what books did you pick?"
"*A Brief History of the Dragon Clan*, *The Hypothesis of Magical Origins*, *From Void to Stardust*, and…"
As she spoke, Aurora held up one of the books in her tiny hands.
When Leon glanced at the title on the book's cover, he froze momentarily and read it aloud:
"*The History of Human Art*?"
Aurora nodded obediently. "Mhm!"
…Perhaps he had given up hope too quickly.
This time, it seemed like the human genes had scored a victory after all!
But amidst his happiness, Leon couldn't help but wonder:
Why did Roswitha's library have books about humans?
Back when he was here studying with Noa and Muen, there hadn’t been a single human-related book in sight.
Were they added afterward?
Did the mother dragon herself decided on this?
There was no way to know for sure.
Still, no matter the reason, the fact that his little daughter was showing interest in human culture was nothing but a good sign.
What could be said about this turn of events?
The prenatal education plan was a smashing success!
All those times Leon had spent reciting poetry and singing to her mother’s belly hadn’t been in vain—this was the payoff!
Leon suppressed a grin and reined in his wandering thoughts. "Alright, take your time reading. If you run into anything you don’t understand, just ask Daddy."
"Okay~"
Aurora opened *The History of Human Art* and began reading intently.
Finding himself with nothing to do, Leon picked up *A Brief History of the Dragon Clan* from the table and flipped through it casually.
The book’s table of contents showed that its author had divided the different dragon clans into separate chapters, each detailing one clan’s developmental history.
Leon skimmed through a couple of sections and found the author to be quite skilled.
Although the history was presented in fragmented “pieces," each piece connected with others at key nodes, creating cohesive links.
The order in which the various dragon clans appeared in the book was also meticulously arranged, ensuring a seamless flow and natural transitions from one section to the next.
Despite its “fragmented” storytelling, the book read smoothly, with no sense of disjointedness.
Leon turned to the chapter on the Silver Dragon Clan.
Their mention came relatively late in the book, placing them in the latter half.
This implied that Roswitha’s lineage was one of the newer clans to emerge in the last millennium or so.
"Taking advantage of its naturally defensible and resource-abundant geography, the Silver Dragon Clan established itself firmly among the dragon clans as soon as it emerged."
"The Silver Dragons' territory is characterized by being easy to defend and hard to assault. Consequently, their kings have historically displayed a strong reluctance to engage in conflict and have refrained from proactively initiating wars with any race."
The saying "A place shapes its people" clearly applied here.
With such an advantageous and resource-rich territory, the Silver Dragons had no need to follow Constantine's example of conquering territories to expand their domain.
Leon continued reading until he reached the section where the heroine made her debut:
"Roswitha Melkevi, the fourth Silver Dragon King, ascended to the throne in 1680 of the Era of Creation. In her 40 years of rule (this book being authored in 1720), she revitalized her clan by fostering trade and economic development."
"Before ascending to the throne, Melkevi underwent nearly a century of rigorous education and trials, ultimately passing the third Silver Dragon King’s academic test with flying colors. Additionally, she defeated the former king in direct combat, earning the unwavering support of all Silver Dragon subjects."
"Angelina Ouellet, the current headmaster of Saint Hiss Academy and an absolutely authoritative and impartial Five-Star Elder, once said of this student of hers:"
"'Among all the children who love learning, Melkevi is the one who impressed me the most at first sight.'"
"'She is focused yet perceptive, always the brightest in any crowd. The stars themselves grow dim in her presence. Her relentless pursuit of knowledge and strength has made her the most exceptional Silver Dragon King in a millennium.'"
"'Roswitha Melkevi, the pride of Saint Hiss Academy, and the pride of the Dragon Clan!'"
The corners of Leon’s eyes twitched slightly.
Wow.
That’s some serious praise…
Vice Headmaster Wilson, that old dragon Wilson, was already a loyal shipper of Leon and Roswitha.
And now it seemed that the headmaster was a dedicated fan of Roswitha?
So this Saint Hiss Academy—is it even a real academic institution? Or just a glorified fanbase?
Not to mention, if your star pupil Melkevi is the academy's crowning glory, then why did her daughter have to go through such nonsensical admission tests when she enrolled?
Why not just let her walk through the backdoor?
If we’re talking about dragon-related schools, well, look at Kassel Academy—they not only let an alumnus’ child in through the backdoor but even gave him an S-class ranking… (just saying).
After a couple of mental jabs, Leon looked up at Aurora across the table.
A well-behaved little girl sat there, reading studiously. Her bite-pressed lips and slightly furrowed brows betrayed her deep focus.
Leon didn’t disturb her. Instead, he lowered his head and continued reading the endless praise from Roswitha’s most devoted fan.
As corny as it was, Leon secretly enjoyed it.
Praise more. Love more. Speak more.
After all…
…that’s my wife.
