38 You've Got Dragon Marks But Afraid of This?

As majestic as its name.

The Sky City of the Dragon Clan was located at the far reaches of the clouds, accessible only to creatures with extraordinary flying abilities.

After hours of flight, Leon and his family finally reached the outskirts of Sky City.

Due to the massive size of the dragons, the space outside the city was vast, large enough to allow many dragons to land simultaneously.

Roswitha chose a relatively vacant spot to land.

Leon jumped off her back, holding their daughters, while Roswitha folded her wings and transformed back into her human form.

"Alright, let’s go inside."

Each carrying one of their daughters, the couple headed towards the entrance of Sky City.

Crossing the gates meant officially stepping into the city of dragons.

Wide streets, dazzling treasures, all kinds of shops, and—

Everywhere they looked, there were great lizards with tails!

Leon couldn't help but swallow nervously, his legs trembling slightly.

Roswitha glanced at him and let out a chuckle. "What’s with the shaking? Afraid?"

"This is excitement shaking." Leon looked ahead at the Dragon Clan residents.

"Excitement shaking?"

"First-class achievements, a whole street full of first-class achievements! We're going to be rich!"

Roswitha covered her face silently.

This man’s occupational obsession was acting up again, wasn’t it?

She swiped her tail across Leon's backside. "Keep moving, we’re on a schedule."

The family of four headed toward a photography studio.

Roswitha had, of course, booked the most high-end studio available.

Just standing at the entrance, Leon could feel the thick artistic atmosphere emanating from the place.

He’d always assumed that dragons were a wild, barbaric lot, into nothing but fighting and destruction. Until now, it had been hard for him to associate “dragons” with “artistic photography.”

For dragons, wasn’t art a matter of war and slaughter?

This had been Leon’s stereotype.

But as he tried to delve deeper into the world of dragons, he realized things might not be quite as he’d imagined.

Ignoring the tails on the people in the city's streets, how were they any different from humans?

"Come on in," Roswitha said, pushing the door open.

"Oh, coming."

Leon, carrying Muen, followed closely behind.

Upon entering the studio, they were greeted by walls covered with photographs showcasing a variety of artistic styles.

The photographer was a bespectacled middle-aged woman—

Oh no, to be precise, a middle-aged dragoness.

She appeared gentle, with simple attire and a warm smile.

She stepped forward to shake hands with Roswitha briefly.

"It is truly an honor for our little studio to photograph the family of the Silver Dragon Queen."

"Not at all. Everyone says your work, Selina, is top-tier in the Dragon Clan. To have secured an appointment with you is a stroke of luck for our family."

"You flatter me, Your Majesty. Come, let’s start by trying on the outfits over here."

"Alright."

On the way to the fitting rooms with Selina, Leon leaned close to Roswitha and whispered,

"You're a Dragon King; couldn’t you have her come to us instead?"

"Dragon Kings can only command their own kind. The dragons of Sky City don’t belong to any one clan."

"Then your rank as queen seems rather unimpressive," Leon jibed.

Roswitha shot him a glare. "Still higher than yours."

"Tch."

The family of four followed Selina to the fitting area.

Selina picked out a suit and was about to introduce it to Leon when she noticed—

"Your Majesty, your husband's tail..."

"Ah, my husband doesn’t like showing his tail. Could you perhaps find him a suit design without a tail opening?"

"Of course, Your Majesty."

As an experienced photographer, Selina had seen all sorts of dragons. There were others who disliked showing their tails, so she didn’t appear particularly surprised.

She prepared a standard suit without a tail opening for Leon, and he obediently put it on.

"Wow~ Daddy looks so handsome in a suit~"

Standing at just over six feet tall with a typical V-shaped torso, Leon had the kind of build where suits emphasized his silhouette.

In his twenty-plus years of life, he had only worn a suit once, during his graduation ceremony at the Dragon Slayer Academy.

He himself didn’t think much about looking handsome or not.

But on the day of the ceremony, a line of underclasswomen had queued up afterward to ask him out to dinner.

Leon had earnestly responded at the time, "I have to head back to shoe a mule for my master tonight—next time for sure."

His master, upon hearing this story, spent that night smoking by his old mule, unable to figure out what on earth was going through Leon's head.

Snapping back to the present—

Leon gazed at his reflection in the mirror.

Indeed, he looked more mature and steady compared to back then.

Muen wagged her tiny tail in excitement, showering her dashing dad with compliments.

Leon ruffled Muen’s hair and then turned his gaze to his usually reserved eldest daughter.

Noa froze, turned her head slightly, and stammered awkwardly, "You—uh, you look pretty good."

A suit is the best way to enhance a man's appearance; it complements his demeanor and highlights his physique.

If even his eldest daughter thought he looked good, then it must really be true.

Feeling satisfied, Leon smugly turned to Roswitha.

The queen scrutinized him carefully, then nodded and gave her verdict:

"It still looks a bit odd without a tail, though."

Lady dragon, I’ll never add a tail in this lifetime!

After finishing Leon’s outfit, Selina selected an evening gown for Roswitha.

The gown was an off-the-shoulder design, predominantly black with subtle crimson embellishments around the waist and hem, adding a touch of mysterious elegance to its stately aura.

However, since it was off-the-shoulder, the neckline dipped slightly, exposing a hint of the Dragon Mark design.

A little flustered, Roswitha covered her chest. "Selina, could I try on one with a slightly higher neckline?"

"Of course, Your Majesty."

Selina smiled, her expression seemingly saying, “These young people today sure know how to have fun.”

Leon took the opportunity to sidle up to Roswitha with a playful grin, lowering his voice. "When are we going to get rid of that meddlesome Dragon Mark? Even taking pictures is a hassle."

"Shut up. Once it’s engraved, a Dragon Mark can’t be removed."

Leon shrugged and stopped pressing the matter.

Finally, Selina helped Roswitha pick out another elegant gown.

Naturally, the two daughters weren’t left out.

Choosing outfits for them was easy—if one was happy, the other was bound to be happy too.

Half an hour later, after all the preparations, the family of four was finally ready for their photo session.

The first shot to be taken was the family portrait.

Leon held Muen, Roswitha held Noa, and the two stood shoulder to shoulder.

In the camera frame, their poses were perfectly aligned for a formal family portrait.

Except... it didn’t quite give off the usual warm vibe of a family photo.

Putting down her camera, Selina spoke politely. "Your Majesty, could I trouble you and your husband to strike a more intimate pose?"

The baffled pair looked at each other.

Roswitha: "An... intimate..."

Leon: "...pose?"

Selina nodded with a smile. "Yes, that’s right. It should be suuuuper loving!"

The two glanced at each other again, then simultaneously averted their gazes.

Roswitha cleared her throat. "Uh... Selina, do you have any suggestions for poses?"

Selina thought for a moment before responding,

"Usually, couples go for something affectionate but tasteful, like hugging, touching noses, or gazing deeply into each other’s eyes."

Hugging.

Touching noses.

Gazing deeply.

Dear gracious photographer, just take our lives already.

Seeing their visible discomfort, Selina felt puzzled.

You’ve already got Dragon Marks—why shy away from a bit of closeness for a photo?

These young folks made no sense.

"Well, if none of those work, how about using your tails to form a heart?"

"Tails to form a heart..."

"Yes, it’s adorable and playful."

Roswitha glanced at Leon. It was too late to attach a tail to this man now.

But after mulling it over, forming a heart seemed to be the least awkward option left.

Hmm...

What to do?

"Can I just use my hands?" Leon asked. "My wife uses her tail, and I use my hands—would that still make a heart?"

Selina raised an eyebrow and then praised, "What a creative idea! Nobody’s tried that before. Alright, the two of you get ready, and we’ll go with that!"
