Looking at Merka lying on the ground, panting heavily and his breath growing weaker, Lilith shook her head with a smile that seemed almost mocking, as if sighing at Merka's weakness.
"Darling, a big man like you, yet so useless," Lilith muttered as she aimlessly walked around the small wooden cabin.
The facilities inside the cabin were very compact, ranging from the desk for reviewing documents to the bookshelf displaying information – everything was there. Most of them were made of simple and understated wood, giving off a strong scholarly and formulaic laboratory style.
Lilith casually picked a half-height desk, sat down with crossed legs, and cast a pretended glance at Merka.
"I see you're close to death."
"I'll be merciful ~ and lower the difficulty level for you a bit."
"Now, I'll give you three options."
"If you guess correctly, I'll consider it your win."
"The first one is..."
Before Lilith could finish her sentence, Merka spoke up.
Turning his head slightly, his gaze became blurry due to weakness, and his cracked lips curled up gently, as if in a silent smile.
"You're the one who killed me, right..."
"Miss Lilith."
"You poisoned me, I should have died from poisoning... am I right?"
As Merka's words trailed off, Lilith's face suddenly changed.
She furrowed her brows tightly, the smile on her face completely disappeared.
"What?"
She looked down at Merka in disbelief, and asked in a low voice, "Why would you say that? Don't you think the Probability of Archgod killing you is higher than me?"
Faced with Lilith's questioning, Merka shook his head.
"Archgod is indeed terrifying... but after a few moves against it, I felt that if it really wanted to kill me, there would be nothing left of me but scraps."
"But I noticed that every time I tried to heal my kidney area, I would vomit excess blood and Qi because my kidneys couldn't be treated."
"So, my cause of death should be kidney damage, not something else."
Merka looked at Lilith with a pensive expression, feeling relieved in his heart, and continued, "During my battle with Archgod, it showed me the image of my death to scare me."
"Although I don't know if it's real, I could tell that the post-mortem lividity from that image was obviously due to cyanide poisoning."
"Cyanide mainly affects the kidneys, right?"
"Kidney diseases have been passed down since the ancient times of Acadia, always a dangerous incurable disease.”
"If that's my cause of death, then most likely even using Descent of the Holy Son wouldn't be able to save me, which is reasonable."
"Considering your... snake-like physical features, I think Miss Lilith, the possibility of you poisoning me is quite high."
Merka turned his face to Lilith, now almost devoid of the strength to even lift his lips. Helpless, he could only rely on Lilith's intervention for rescue.
"Just based on these...?"
"Just based on these, you conclude that I'm the culprit?"
Lilith bit her lower lip slightly, seeming slightly dissatisfied with this explanation.
"I am a viper, vipers' venom is neurotoxic, not cyanide."
"My venom doesn't solely affect the kidneys..."
"But you guessed correctly, it was me who poisoned you."
Merka was sweating profusely on his forehead, but still managed to smile warmly towards Lilith.
He didn't tell Lilith that there was another reason that led him to guess this answer.
Lilith bore a strong resemblance to Eve.
And the values of love she revealed in her words were quite different from the traditional views of love that women in today's Acadia pursued, but were quite similar to the love values shared by Adam and Eve thousands of years ago.
With the coincidence of having a kidney injury – considering Eve had died because of kidney issues – Merka couldn't believe that Lilith had no connection to his injury at all.
But Merka dared not say so.
Just mentioning Eve's name earlier had almost angered Lilith; if he was so blunt, he might end up in her punishment.
"Those who cannot bear the pain of kidney failure cannot be called perfect human beings."
"Although I only guessed the answer. But since Darling made it through, I'll consider it my barely passing the test too."
Lilith hopped off the desk, sauntered over, straddled Merka's waist, grabbed his collar tightly, leaned down, and knelt.
She opened her small mouth, revealed her fierce snake-like fangs at Merka's neck, and bit down fiercely.
"As the serpent bites its tail, the pattern will be reversed."
