With the main entrance and back door both blocked, Mewo White's best way to reach her "big brother's" room is through the window.
The bear father underestimated his daughter, thinking that by having her stay in a room with high windows, he could stop her from climbing out through the window.
This father's mentality is like those parents who think they can keep candy out of reach by placing it high up, assuming their children won't be able to get to it;
Little do they know, children can be quite resourceful, using stools to reach higher places and employing various other methods.
Mewo White is no exception.
First, she used her tail to gently push open the unlocked window;
Then, relying on her agility, she positioned her body halfway vertically along the window edge, keeping her hands on it and hanging her feet in mid-air between the palace and the ground.
Where Mewo White stayed tonight was not on the first floor of the palace, but actually on the third floor;
In other words:
At this moment, she was suspended more than ten meters above the ground;
If she were to fall from this height, regardless of whether a cat has nine lives, it would be quite disastrous in every sense.
Mewo White needs to have a clear plan for what comes next.
Only by doing so can she avoid becoming confused later on and letting her movements slow down due to the perplexity in her little mind, which could lead to some terrible consequences.
She knows:
The room of her big brother, as expected, should be on the second floor;
Because most of the rooms on that floor are reserved for visiting guests.
With the destination set, Mewo White should start thinking about her movement route.
The area outside the window is not safe, with patrols moving back and forth around the palace;
Unless those people suddenly have stomach problems collectively tonight, Mewo White should not consider:
Sliding down the wall, landing on the ground, then entering the palace from the entrance to get to the second floor.
The view from above must not be ignored either.
The capital had stationed reconnaissance units in the sky years ago specifically to prevent suspicious individuals from roaming at night.
The creatures resembling eagles and hawks from above have terrifying vision even at night, and things like night blindness have no effect on them at all.
The biggest threat for Mewo White to enter from the third-floor window ledge into the palace's second floor would be those birds with excellent eyesight.
Fortunately, every creature has its weaknesses, and they are no exception.
As a member of the royal family of her country, Mewo White knows many secrets that outsiders find hard to understand, including the weaknesses of avian creatures.
While their vision is unbelievably sharp, they can only detect moving targets while patrolling in the air.
And every five minutes, there is a blind spot in their field of vision for observing the environment below.
The reason Mewo White had to climb through the window is largely because, on this route, she would just enter the blind spot of the avian creatures.
Although opportunities might arise more than once, Mewo White had already waited too long before, hoping for the guards outside the room to be careless.
Now, she doesn't want to wait any longer, doesn't want to reduce her time with her big brother.
She only has this one chance, to act at a moment when the avian creatures are about to expose a gap in surveillance!
Mewo White grabbed onto the edge of the windowsill with both hands, momentarily let go, causing her body to flip backwards;
She waited until her hands and feet were all dangling in mid-air, tilted towards a certain direction in an instant, even though she was upside down, she was agile in turning her head to feet.
If Mewo White hadn't suppressed the sound she emitted, the sound she would have made at the last moment should have been a "whump".
Mewo White landed on a large tree near the window, the leaves enveloping her body served as partial cover.
However, relying solely on the leaves was not enough for the current Mewo White to completely avoid the danger of being discovered.
The brief lapse was indeed very brief;
But that moment was the only opportunity when the circling raptors had a gap.
But that moment was short-lived;
Following which, at this moment, even if Mewo White were to remain in the tree, she would most likely be discovered by the raptors in the next second.
If she had not reacted at that moment...
Freeze!
Mewo White released both hands and feet, like a lifeless puppet, completely still on the branches.
The position she lay in on the tree was quite challenging, relying on precise balance control to prevent any accidental falls;
If this were part of a movie stunt, there would definitely be a caption rolling on the screen emphasizing:
"Dangerous stunt, do not attempt to imitate, whether you are a professional or nonprofessional."
Due to Mewo White's stillness, the raptors, being dynamic creatures, failed to notice any suspicious activity.
Now, between Mewo White and the hawks, it was as if they were playing a game of "Statues";
Different from the usual game that people play:
The former became the first player in history to stay suspended tens of meters above the ground;
As for the latter, they had no inkling that they were playing a game, let alone being played.
At this point, Mewo White's experience was going relatively smoothly.
But what about after this?
As long as Mewo White remained motionless, she would not be discovered throughout the night, but that was not the outcome she hoped for.
Not long ago, she did have a great time playing with the hawks, but that was merely a process, not the ultimate result.
Mewo White didn't plan on being a statue anymore, she was eager to act again after this.
The time she spent in stillness was also a preparatory process;
Her current position was close to the second-floor window, unlike before when she had to rely on a gap to safely shorten the distance.
At this moment, Mewo White was only a few meters away from the second-floor window;
If she made one final effort, she might have a chance to dash through at lightning speed before being discovered.
Phew!
Mewo White silently took a deep breath, her gaze locked firmly on the window located at an oblique angle.
Perhaps for ventilation purposes, the servants working in the palace had not closed the window leading to the second-floor corridor, leaving it partially open.
This was an excellent opportunity for Mewo White.
From the moment her eyes spotted the opportunity, there was no room for anything else in her gaze.
The eagle-like creatures in the sky continued to soar, with the possibility of noticing them at any time, but Mewo White paid no attention.
Her longing for her elder brother made her fearless, and the time she took to react decisively was now more than twice as fast as before.
Jump!
Due to the need to minimize the extent of movement, Mewo White did not somersault into the air;
she leaped in a way as if to do a long jump, turning her body into a very slight parabola, leaping towards the direction of the window.
And because there might be a sound when her feet touched the ground, as Mewo White landed, she reached out her arms forward, pressing the palms against the edge, 'walking on hands' to maintain her balance.
Then she slid her body and flipped over, sticking close to the edge position, with her back completely against the wall as her legs pressed down.
The first level was now behind her, with no intermission, she immediately started advancing to the second level!
Mewo White looked at the empty corridor ahead, seemingly deserted but actually hiding danger.
Mewo White's eyes were quite special, able to capture magical traces in the air solely by visual observation;
and now she saw it:
In the area ahead of her, magic threads intersected and crisscrossed, forming a dense network like a spider web, blocking her path.
The edges of these fine threads were sharp enough to cut metal;
their original purpose was to hinder intruders, but on this day, they happened to obstruct the princess of the kingdom.
At a glance, Mewo White knew:
The difficulty level of the second level was higher, but there was still a way to pass through successfully.
After observing for a while, she discovered that those threads were not fixed but moved front and back according to a certain pattern.
As long as the magic web was not permanently fixed in one place, Mewo White was confident she could pass through.
The young cat-eared girl, when serious, was very formidable, and she was about to prove that herself!
From a certain moment, the density of the magic web became sparse, the several fine threads forming at the edge moving straight ahead temporarily.
This phenomenon was not surprising.
After all, it was difficult to maintain a type of magic for a long time, but the night was so long;
thus, the person who set the magic had to ensure it would not lose its effect midway and could only create an unavoidable weakness in the magic itself.
The cost of ensuring the duration was that the range of the magic's effect had to be limited, only working at a short distance.
But then again:
If the corridor was not "long," could it still be called by its current name?
Just like fences around a field, how could only one side be functional, while the other three sides remained open?
Considering this challenge of reality that the setter faced, he had a sudden idea:
When setting the magic, let those threads maintain the state of moving back and forth;
in this way, at different times, each area of the corridor could maintain the state of obstructing intruders.
The person who came up with this idea could be considered a genius, but unfortunately, often times, a genius and a fool were just a thin line apart.
If an intruder who broke into the palace was someone with acute observation like Mewo White, agile and highly skilled, this seemingly perfect idea would probably be as good as useless.
Mewo White seized the brief moment of vulnerability, her small short legs skimming over the ground, as if starting to "skate" on the smooth floor surface. With such a silent and unobtrusive approach, it was unlikely to make a sound or disrupt Mewo White's subsequent body movements. As a thin wire was about to strike, she slightly tilted her head and hunched one shoulder to dodge it; and not long after, several more thin wires came at her in quick succession.
