Dishonest Thought

Now, Charley, who is far away from troublesome places, steps lively and spins in circles in the courtyard of the church.

(whispering) "It's true that I obtained some important information, but it's not enough! I must continue my efforts until I acquire even more important information."

The reason why she spins happily is that Charley is in a good mood.

The main reason that keeps her in a joyful mood is the scene of her upcoming date with someone.

(whispering) "So, in order for me to make a good impression, the idiotic bishop and one or two of his lackeys shall become stepping stones for me."

Last night, Charley solved a maid who came from the palace to the church in order to smoothly infiltrate.

Initially, Charley didn't plan to kill, but unfortunately, the scene of her infiltration happened to be witnessed by the maid.

Rather than resorting to silencing her, Charley adheres to the principle of "dead men tell no tales," so she acted ruthlessly.

Without hesitation, after the maid's soul departed, Charley proceeded to disguise herself as the maid.

And that identity is just one of the many disguises Charley employs.

In addition, concerning the deceased maid, Charley feels there is something unusual.

Given the hostile relationship between the royal family and the "Church of the Supreme God," ordinary maids would not be able to come to the church.

If such a strange phenomenon actually occurred, it could only mean that the maid had a dual identity.

But whatever!

Charley doesn't care about matters outside of her mission.

She only plans to use her stolen identity to obtain information from the red-robed bishop;

Everything else is irrelevant.

"Hey, 3350, where are you?"

Just as Charley was feeling joyful, she suddenly heard the voice of the red-robed bishop coming from a distance;

The sudden interruption caused her once cheerful face to darken instantly.

"You stupid fool, how dare you disturb me! If it weren't for the fact that I still find some value in you, I would have sent you on your way."

While complaining, Charley is aware that the shouting is getting closer, which means:

The red-robed bishop is getting closer.

If Charley maintains her current appearance, she will surely be discovered, so she must do something.

Therefore, in the next moment, Charley puts on a mask and uses a forbidden spell to change her appearance again.

However, this time, she no longer transforms into the appearance of an ordinary nun, but disguises herself as the palace maid she killed.

Charley doesn't need to change clothes.

When that maid came to the church yesterday, she was already wearing a nun's attire, presumably to conceal her identity.

After putting away the mask, Charley lowers her hands and assumes a proper posture, walking forward with measured steps.

Just a few steps out, she comes face to face with the red-robed bishop;

The latter slightly pats his belly and impatiently points towards her, saying:

"3350, why didn't you respond when I called you just now?"

That string of numbers is the church's identification code, and it is customary for low-ranking clergy to be referred to by consecutive numbers instead of their real names.

"I apologize, I was lost in thought just now and didn't notice your voice, Your Grace."

Charley squeezed out a convincingly gentle smile and bowed apologetically towards the bishop.

"Something on your mind? What is it?"

"Well, not long ago when I left the palace, I was questioned by one of the palace staff. He kept pestering me, asking where I went last night."

"He kept pressing... Do you think your identity has been discovered?"

The excuse Charley intentionally fabricated now became a linguistic trap, luring the prey step by step.

She pretended to be in a dilemma and hesitantly informed the bishop:

"While I'm not exactly being suspected, I might not be able to come to you for a while for our future actions."

"No! That's not acceptable!"

The bishop immediately voiced his opposition:

"This is a critical moment, and if you don't cooperate more, my plans won't be able to proceed."

"Well, if we continue like this, my identity will eventually be exposed. Doesn't the bishop think it's a problem?"

"It's not a problem! 3350, you are the only pawn arranged by the church in the palace, your greatest value is to work for the high-ranking members like myself."

In the past, when the bishop came to Dibiles, the Pope told him:

Several years ago, 3350, who had changed her identity, entered the palace as a maid, infiltrating while waiting for the right moment.

The Pope revealed this secret, hoping that the bishop could do something, preferably to subvert the Dibiles Empire when needed.

Unfortunately, the bishop disappointed the Pope's expectations and used the precious "pawn" for his own desires.

What made the Church of the Supreme God even more unfortunate was that the bishop did not know the true 3350 had already been taken care of by Charley last night, completely erased in a concrete sense.

Now standing before him was just an impostor.

However, unaware of the truth, the bishop unwittingly revealed his grand scheme in Charley's multiple deceptive words:

"3350, your greatest advantage lies in your identity as the 'Queen's personal maid,' which gives you control over a part of the Queen's diet."

The bishop took out a small bottle and shook it in his hand, showing the transparent liquid inside to Charley.

"When this bottle of medicine was made, it contained precious ingredients that ignite the Queen's desire, and it also has a sedative effect..."

"Sir, you want me to take advantage of my identity and add the medicine to the Queen's food and drinks, creating an opportunity for you in some aspect?"

"There's no other way. Now that I have lost the challenge, using this little thing is my only chance to get the Queen."

"I really don't understand. There are plenty of good women, why does the bishop fixate on the Queen?"

"Is that something you should be asking about? Hmph!"

While the bishop was displeased with his subordinate's behavior, he spat on the ground in annoyance.

At that moment, Charley understood:

She almost drew her whip to strangle the guy in front of her, but luckily, a last trace of reason remained in her mind.

Assisting her in suppressing the impulse was a delusional image that Charley conjured in the depths of her consciousness:

In that image, Wang Xiaole's arms were raised above her head, and the wrists of her crossed hands were tied together with a rope.

On the other side of the scene, Charley, dressed in revealing attire and holding a whip, slowly approached.

Ah, ah, ah, more! More...

The sound of souls being sold echoed within the secret chamber.

Charley's voice, seemingly a hallucination, soothed the restless heart.

As Charley's mood improved, the almost gloomy expression on their face instantly returned to its original state.

Charley reverted back to a respectful tone, intending to reject the bishop's orders from another angle, using the following excuse:

"If I do as you wish, exposure is inevitable."

"So what?"

"I have been undercover for so long for personal reasons. Do you really think it is appropriate for me to reveal my identity?"

"What's inappropriate about it? Once the Bishop obtains the Queen, he will essentially control the entire empire."

The crimson bishop believed that even if this result was reported to the Papal States, there would be no objection from His Holiness the Pope.

But Charley's thoughts were different:

I have objections!

They were not truly a member of the Red Bishop's subordinates, and there was no reason for them to do anything for the Bishop.

So, when the Bishop stubbornly handed over the vial of potion and left on their own accord later on, Charley's immediate reaction was as follows:

They raised their hand high, ready to throw the vial down, watching as the crimson bishop walked away.

If Charley truly destroyed that vial, so many things would not have happened afterwards.

However, things in the world often have nothing to do with "ifs."

In the end, Charley did not do such a thing because they realized in that moment when their fervor subsided:

(Whispering) "Xiaole asked me to gather information, and up until now, there hasn't been any other piece of information that carries the same weight as this."

Charley valued gathering information and knew that Wang Xiaole had participated in the martial arts competition to become the true imperial husband, holding a high chance of success.

From Charley's perspective:

They did not want the relationship between Wang Xiaole and the Queen to become something substantial. They hoped to seize the opportunity first.

The answer to the current incomprehension solely lay in Charley's inability to figure out:

How can they bypass the Queen and seize the chance for themselves?

In the moment the crimson bishop handed over the potion, Charley thought of an answer that had eluded them for a long time:

It was to use the Bishop's foolishness to their advantage and help them achieve their goal.

From one perspective:

Charley had no intention of truly assisting the crimson bishop and giving them the opportunity to succeed in their conspiracy.

From another angle:

They could not destroy the potion now, without Wang Xiaole's knowledge, and become a foolishly helpful person.

(Whispering) "Even if I want to be a 'good person,' I can't silently do it. The so-called 'goodness' is meaningless if Xiaole doesn't know about it."

The crimson bishop believed that they had control over their "pawn," and that the situation was gradually falling back under their control.

However, they did not anticipate that Charley would start redirecting the seemingly flawless plan with their own actions, gradually leading it in a different direction.

There have been too many twists and turns in the matter involving the Emperor,

and the upcoming situation is neither what the Cardinal expected nor in alignment with Wang Xiaole's plan.

"The final result is up to me. I have missed Xiaole too many times, and this time, I don't want to fail again!"

Charley spoke out her hidden thoughts in her original tone, without the need to lower her voice.

Finally, Charley had a specific time in mind for the official action:

Just like the Cardinal, she would fulfill her sole purpose on the day of the Emperor and Wang Xiaole's wedding ceremony.
