Chapter 15: Heart of the Rainstorm
update icon Updated at 2025/11/2 5:10:13

Before my eyes were completely obscured by a blood-red hue, the grip of fear had taken hold of my heart. It was only subconsciously that I noticed the beads of sweat the size of soybeans on Yukari's head, as the murky air suddenly rushed in from outside the window!

"What is this smell exactly..."

A high-pitched ringing echoed in my ears, accompanied by a growing sense of dizziness and headache! Both Yukari and everyone else in the train compartment had vanished, leaving only a viscous red liquid and a putrid smell that filled my vision and sense of smell.

"Yukari? Flandre? Chiyori..."

"I-I... it hurts so much, I'm most afraid of pain!"

...

"Ah, my mom is waiting at home for me to cook dinner, she loves the dishes I make for her the most... This is such a... familiar scent!"

In the next train compartment, the silhouette of a teenage girl appeared. I leaned closer to the window in an attempt to catch a glimpse of her face, but the dim light only allowed me to see her graceful figure.

"Hey, you're the wise one, aren't you? I remember your aura!"

"What is a wise one?"

I was a bit perplexed by her words. The title of "wise one" seemed to hold great importance to her, yet it could also be just a laughable belief.

"A wise one is a great hero who saves everyone. I'm truly grateful, but..."

"We're here! We're here!"

The surrounding blood-red surroundings suddenly dispersed, leaving only the cool and soft touch of a cheek against mine, and the buzzing in my head.

At that moment, Yukari sat on a chair by the platform and let me lay against her thigh as she gently rubbed my temples.

"Feeling better?"

"Uh... yeah!"

I quickly sat up from her lap, my face red, and said, "Thank you. It was just a nightmare, I'm much better now."

I had dreamt of a grey world in a violent downpour, where I met a girl who seemed very sad and in need of help...

"You've encountered the Evil Entity, they excel in deceiving people's emotions, don't they?"

"Huh?"

Her unexpected words startled me, and I had nothing to refute, as everything happened so suddenly.

"Even if they leave their physical form, they still roam this world, we call them the 'Rainstorm!' The name specifically denotes those dangerously infectious forms of the Evil Entity. It didn't rain earlier, you were just lucky... Oh, enough babbling, in short, they deceive humans using the purest emotions."

They are non-conformists in this world, contending with humans for the spiritual realm, extracting unlimited fear and desire from it!

"Just know that what you encountered was not a rainstorm, but a simple lost spirit."

"I see, it seems that's really the case..."

I chuckled awkwardly and gestured, "Ma'am, shall we go?"

...

Yukari first looked puzzled and then smiled warmly.

"Okay, let's go find the others."

And so, we journeyed admiring the lush green branches along the way. Freed from human constraints, they grew unrestrained, leaving their mark everywhere from trash cans to tall buildings!

"Hagrid, look, it's a May!'

"Where..."

Before I could finish my sentence, dozens of brown horses came galloping out of the station waiting room, surrounding us like a curious species encircling two people.

"Well, it looks like these wild horses that escaped from the nearby stable did so to search for food after losing their owners, didn't they?"

I glanced at the floor of the square in front of the gate, where the hard armor of bricks had been completely broken through by the overgrown green grass, turning this place into a forest of lush greenery.

Even the rigid buildings were forcibly destroyed by the twisting vines, making one marvel at the greatness of nature's power.

"It's getting late, we must find a place to stay before dark. I definitely don't want to sleep here!"

"Of course, I don't either."

I shrugged and slowly walked towards Yukari, who was about to leave me. I half-jokingly, half-seriously said,

"Seriously, is betraying your own family really worth it?"

"..."

"Haha, it's fine if you don't want to talk about it. I'm not trying to pressure you; I'm just..."

"Do you want to know?"

Yukari's gaze became particularly sharp, as if there were countless bitter words she wanted to share with me. I immediately expressed my urgent desire to know.

"Of course... Because, um... I don't understand, so I just want to ask you."

"Alright, because..."

At this point, Yukari's gaze suddenly dimmed, as if deliberately avoiding something.

I won't force her to tell me if she doesn't want to. If just a few tears are enough to dishearten me, then I'll just say – you win!

"Because I once abandoned my family. At that time, I was tired of my actions, even though I had once deeply loved them, but... but... I completely forgot!"

"Okay, we really should go now."

"Don't want to hear more?"

"No, it's because... look, it's Fran and Chiyori!"

Just as Yukari turned around, Fran and Chiyori had already appeared next to us and accused us, saying,

"Hey, you guys are walking way too slow. I... Oh no! Rena, what foolish thing are you doing?"

"It's nothing, I just wanted you to finish what you were about to say first. They are very close to us already!"

As Rena's words fell, the horses neighed towards the sky and scattered in all directions!

A few drops of rain fell from the dark sky onto my forehead, feeling refreshingly cool, but Yukari immediately brought me back to reality.

"It's the cry of the Evil Entity, this storm is filled with slaughter!"

Suddenly, the earth trembled slightly, and a skyscraper collapsed with a deafening roar, crashing into another tall building!

"What's happening?"

Fran grew wary.

"It seems that the opponent's level is probably above S-rank!"

"Yes, getting closer, coming towards us!"

I gradually calmed down, using my not yet fully mastered silent world to search for enemies as usual, but this time...

There was no response, even the air shattered by this unknown force!

"I think... Should we run?"

Fran began to feel shaky. The aura radiating from the Evil Entity made it difficult for four out of the six present individuals to catch their breath, only Yukari and I managed to stay steady.

The bond of the heart longed to convey but was unable to reach, and once courage was summoned, reality would suppress it!

It's the heart of the storm!

I've been searching for you all along, but still can't see your silhouette, only hoping in vain from zero that you might return to my side again... What is this?

"The desires of the Evil Entity have escalated once again, we are no match for it!"

"Hehe, that's not necessarily true, big sis... "

"Run!"

Before Ren could even praise Sister Yukari, she was interrupted by her.

"Hey, why?"

"Stop the chitchat, that's an S-class Evil Entity, I can only hold on for a while, I knew I shouldn't have come out..."

There was a hint of regret and fear in Sister Yukari's words!

But it was too late, a torrential downpour was imminent, the black clouds engulfing the sky and the earth here were about to be completely destroyed, anything entering this domain would be riddled with countless holes by the storm in the blink of an eye!

"Don't make a sound, hurry back to the station and let's take the train back!"

The black storm was getting closer, and Sister Yukari hurriedly directed everyone back to the station, immediately pressing the departure button in the control room!

"No, the train can't move, it must be a power outage, right?"

"Oh no, of all times..."

Chiyori's remark made everyone anxious, we should have noticed earlier, we arrived using the station's backup power, so it seemed hopeless to go back now!

Wuwuwu~!

The sound of the approaching Evil Entity grew louder, it seemed that we were indeed the target.

"This is bad!"

Just as Sister Yukari was worried and let out a mournful cry, a bolt of lightning struck down from the sky, hitting directly on the distant black behemoth, and the Evil Entity seemed to have noticed another presence, so it turned towards the opposite direction from us.

"Phew~!"

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief at the same time, and just as I was starting to ease up, I heard a familiar voice calling out.

"I'll take care of this, the station is already charged with electricity, so it's no problem to go back..."

It was Yuanhui's voice!

Sure enough, the train started moving, speeding towards us.

At the window, in the distance, a black dense fog collided with a thunderstorm composed of lightning, although the lightning would immediately be swallowed by the black mist, after a while, it would create a small opening and fly out.

"It seems someone is there blocking the Evil Entity's storm attack for us, could it be the God of Thunder?"

"Yeah, in memory, only the God of Thunder can unleash thunder to such an extreme, but which of his divine envoys could it be, or... the God of Thunder himself?"

Taking over from Fran's words, Sister Yukari continued.

Both Fran and Sister Yukari had some faint knowledge of the legend of the God of Thunder, but only I knew who the true God of Thunder was among us.

They didn't know Yuanhui's background, but Edward probably did, I knew from the moment he sent Yuanhui here that that guy was probably working for that idiot Edward!

"But could he be sent by Edward to monitor us?"

"What did you say?"

Everyone turned their gaze toward me, even Yukari seemed particularly shocked. Of course, provided Edward didn't want to harm us, Yuanhui might act in such a way.

"I... nothing, just making a guess."

The rain continued to pour heavily, nonstop. Through the car window, I seemed to see the dark city streets with throngs of pedestrians holding black umbrellas moving along the roads.

Pedestrians filled the streets, but there was no idle chatter, just the sound of cars splashing through water, and children's footsteps in rain boots in puddles along the roadside...
