Chapter 10 Keep Dying
update icon Updated at 2025/5/13 17:10:12

"Master, you have obtained Mother's permission. You can wake up now."

"Mother... Oh, is it her?"

"I think so. Everything is guided by Mother, everything is created by Mother."

"I suppose so. Perhaps your mother has appeared in my dreams before, but I never realized it."

Of course she has. Mother is selfless and caring, she would never harm anyone... including us."

"Is she really that great?"

"Indeed, for us, Mother is the greatest... Oh, maybe I misspoke. She is second only to you, Master."

Hai continued to walk forward as if there was no intention of turning back.

"My head feels a bit uncomfortable now, and my throat is very dry. Can you give me some water to drink?"

Juxi felt uncomfortable; he felt like his throat was starting to smoke.

Coincidentally, at this moment, as they passed by the ship's window, a familiar scene appeared once again before Juxi's eyes - a green planet.

Similar to the scene from his dream, the only difference was that the planet now had grown enormous, occupying the entire window!

"Am I... still dreaming?" Juxi could not believe it and pinched himself, even though he knew it wouldn't change anything.

"No, my dear Master, I assure you that you have never been as awake as you are now... truly." Hai pledged.

"Oh," Juxi had no choice but to believe its words, "then I will follow you. You will lead me to the right place, right?"

"Of course, I will definitely take you to where you should go, Master. That is my purpose of existence." Hai continued without stopping, moving forward at a steady pace.

Juxi soon became bored; he felt that he and Hai had no common language.

It seemed that the strange woman from before was right - these robots' respect for humans made them extremely loyal.

However, it was this loyalty that made it impossible for them to communicate with humans normally. Juxi was well aware of this, just like subjects and emperors, they would never have a common language.

Juxi remembered that even though these robots were just programmed entities, they were very good at chatting at times, and it really gave people an illusion.

But according to what Hai had said, everything they did was manipulated by commands and pre-installed information, and they did not have their own will.

By the way, they didn't even have a concept of self.

The corridor remained dark, and Juxi felt even more uneasy as he walked.

"Hai, why isn't there any light here?"

"Master, ninety-seven percent of the ship's resources are used for the engines, two percent for the power supply of the sleep chambers, and the remaining one percent..."

"I know, it's for the ship's daily facilities, right?"

"Not exactly, because within that one percent, ninety percent is allocated to the operation of the command center. So, the real portion allocated for the power supply is less than one thousandth."

"..."

After hearing Hai's explanation, Juxi finally understood the reason.

With such tight energy supply, coupled with the countless rooms on the ship, it's no wonder that some areas don't even have lights.

After experiencing so much, Juxi is no longer surprised by anything in front of him, and he naturally doesn't believe if he is still awake.

After dreaming for so long, I now feel that I am living in deception, even now, I don't feel any sense of reality at all," Juxi said in his heart.

After such a long journey, Juxi has forgotten everything. He has even forgotten what he looks like, what kind of person he is.

As he wakes up from the dream, that's the present Juxi. But even if he wakes up now, can the dream really be awakened?

If life is only a few short years, maybe Juxi wouldn't think about it so much.

Instead, as time goes on, Juxi is trapped in this long-lasting pain, and this pain doesn't come from himself, but from an imperceptible phantom pain.

There were no robots in the corridor, let alone humans.

It's not difficult to see from the circular windows on each cabin door that there are still many robots like Hai, and each room must have at least two or more.

However...

Because the robots don't have so much freedom to move around, the huge spaceship appears to be very deserted.

After about half an hour of walking, Hai finally stopped on the top floor of the spaceship, in front of a three-meter high door.

"Master, this is as far as I can go, I will wait for you here," Hai said.

"But..."

"Master, please go in! Mother has been waiting for you for a long time."

"Um...okay!"

Under Hai's "persuasion," Juxi could only enter with a heavy heart.

As the door slowly opened, Juxi slowly saw the inside and was shocked by the magnificent spectacle!

It can be said that this is the largest space inside the spaceship, and it is also the room that houses the massive energy core, as if it contains everything.

Juxi knows that he cannot leave here and can only wait quietly.

One minute passed, and there was still no movement in the room, only the faint light emitted by the core.

Just as Juxi was about to doze off, a voice woke him up from his drowsiness: "Do you know what this light is?"

Startled by the voice, Juxi hadn't reacted yet and casually said, "It's some undiscovered... endless energy, right?"

"Wrong..." the woman said calmly, "It's actually not a rare energy, just ordinary solar energy."

"Solar energy? Can it last this long?" Juxi was skeptical. He still had some memories of solar energy, but it seemed that it couldn't supply the entire spacecraft with such power.

"Of course it can last this long because it's not just solar energy, it is the essence of the sun!" The woman's voice was as calm as ever, but it completely shocked Juxi.

Th...the sun?!

Is she joking? If it's really the sun, then he should have already...

"If it's the real sun, I shouldn't still be alive here, right?"

"That's right, but...this sun is indeed from our world."

"Then why is it so weak?"

"It's simple, it's almost run out of light. It has used up its final rays for our spacecraft."

As she said this, a red figure appeared in front of the light. Her appearance was so familiar, but this time Juxi wasn't so shocked.

"It's you again... tell me, what exactly is real?" Juxi understood everything in that moment when he saw the woman.

But she seemed unchanged, still carrying that mysterious aura, leaving Juxi unable to decipher her intentions.

And behind her, the true face of the spaceship gradually revealed itself.

Juxi could see a glimmer of light, not from inside the spaceship, but from outside... from a more distant place, on the other side of the green planet!

There, a massive, fiery sphere gradually emerged - a new sun, the hope of humanity, and the ultimate destination of this arduous journey.

"More than ten thousand years..." the woman sighed as she looked at the sun. "I have forgotten the shape of the sun, only remembering the spaceship traveling through endless darkness, with no hope ahead... only unknown dangers."

"Then why didn't you enter the dream as well?" Juxi asked, puzzled.

To his suggestion, the woman simply shook her head. "I cannot enter the dream, because I know it is an act of escape, not the so-called reality."

"..."

"Juxi, just like you, you are now truly in reality, but where do your fears and doubts come from?"

After speaking, the woman turned and walked up the nearby stairs.

"Right, Black Pupil, come with me again."

Upon hearing the woman's command, Juxi obediently followed her, without saying a word.

Juxi found it normal that this woman was strange. After all, the terrifying and almost infinite loneliness was not something ordinary people could bear.

And she had endured this loneliness that normal people could not bear, which led her to become what she was now.

Emotions... had ceased to matter to her.

Juxi didn't know what was going on in this woman's mind, nor did he fully understand his own thoughts.

But one thing was clear - he was much more aware now.

At least, he was no longer lost like before...

Because he knew that now he truly lived, not in some artificially created dream, nor in any blissful world.

Honestly, he envied those who had already died, because they didn't need to worry about anything, nor did they need to think.

For them, maintaining death was the only thing they needed to do.

Comparing himself to those people, Juxi felt completely disoriented.

Based on his own intuition, Juxi followed the woman and walked forward.

His head had never felt this uncomfortable, even to the point of nausea, and his stomach churned incessantly.

Not knowing how long they had walked, Juxi and the woman stopped in front of an elevator door.

"Mr. Juxi, this way please?"

The woman gestured for Juxi to go ahead, as if she had no intention of going further.

And Juxi didn't know what was happening, he just dumbly stepped into the elevator, standing in the square-shaped elevator with all six sides blank.
