Chapter 148: Post-Event Handling (Part 1)

On a road leading to the mountains, a truck was driving calmly with its headlights on. It was unknown what the truck was carrying in the back. As for the two people in front, one person was driving in the driver's seat, while the other was in the passenger seat. However, it doesn't mean that the second person was empty-handed. In fact, he was holding an assault rifle that couldn't be ignored. Perhaps due to the boredom of the journey, the two of them started chatting.

"I didn't expect that we would have to make a trip to the mountains so late. Although we have done it before, it's really strange to do it at this time. Moreover, the workload this time is greater than usual."

"There's no other choice. After all, it's the order from the boss, and there are some important things inside."

"But it seems like those things are useless now. Otherwise, the boss wouldn't have asked us to bring them to the mountains for disposal."

"That's true."

"But why is it so troublesome? There should be easier methods."

The man driving complained while furrowing his brow.

"Although I'm not sure about the boss's thoughts, maybe the boss believes that garbage should go where it belongs."

"You could be right."

After hearing the other man's answer, the driver quickly relieved his doubts. The questions in his mind vanished, and he focused on driving. Although the car was moving, the road illuminated by the headlights remained the same. The road kept retreating from the front and appearing before them from the rear, as if it had no end.

Considering looking further ahead, but in reality, it was impossible. The headlights couldn't reach far enough to reveal what was ahead, where there was only darkness.

However, in the next moment, the scenery suddenly changed drastically. A mirror-like object appeared out of thin air in front of the truck. Due to the suddenness of the situation, it was already too late to brake, and even if they had braked from the beginning, it would have been impossible to stop in time because...

The unidentified object was very close to the truck. It was impossible to stop the heavy truck at this distance, let alone when it was already too late to react. Furthermore...

In the end, there was no need to stop at all. Although they didn't know what the object was, it didn't matter. They could just crash into it directly. While a heavy mass might be fatal during braking, it would become a devastating weapon in terms of impact force.

Therefore, the truck collided with it at full speed.

"Thud—"

A dull impact sound rang out.

But to their surprise, the truck, weighing several tons, did not break through the mirror-like object.

Could it be some kind of special shock-resistant material?

However, even though it hadn't been shattered, the truck didn't stop. Instead, it continued to push the unidentified object forward at high speed. This was only natural...

It was unrealistic to try to stop the heavy truck, and the driver had no intention of stopping. On the contrary, he pressed harder on the accelerator, increasing the output, preparing to send the unidentified object flying in one go. Yes, even if it couldn't be shattered, it didn't matter. As long as they crashed into it and sent it flying.

However...

Reality turned out to be the complete opposite. The unidentified object that stuck closely to the truck was neither shattered nor sent flying. Instead, it clung tightly to the truck.

At the same time, the truck's speed gradually slowed down and eventually came to a stop.

Although the truck driver is still pressing the accelerator firmly, it seems to be useless. The wheels of the truck keep spinning, but the truck does not move forward an inch.

"What's going on?"

Perhaps realizing that pressing the accelerator won't make a difference, the truck driver wisely gives up this futile action.

After the truck comes to a stop, the man sitting in the passenger seat opens the door and gets out, holding a submachine gun in his hand. He checks the front of the truck.

But there is nothing there. The unidentified object that was seen from the driver's seat has disappeared without a trace.

What is going on? Was it just an illusion? No, the truck did hit something earlier, otherwise it wouldn't have stopped. But now, there is absolutely nothing here. I couldn't have been mistaken.

Just as the man was pondering over this...

"Screech—"

A sharp braking sound comes from behind. The man naturally turns his head and sees a black sedan parked not far from him.

Soon after,

A figure comes out from the driver's seat above. Due to the dim headlights, the person's face cannot be clearly seen, but it can be tentatively determined that it is a short-haired woman.
