Chapter 96: Selfish People Act for Their Own Purposes (Part 2)

As the tall man pondered, he took out a piece of paper from the inner pocket of his jacket. In essence, it was just an ordinary piece of paper, but in the hands of the tall man, it could turn into an incredible hidden weapon. After twisting the paper into a bundle, the tall man injected Kinesis into it, just as he always did. In the next moment, the paper seemed to transform into a metallic strip, although it was still essentially paper. This might seem unimaginable to others, but for the tall man, it was effortless - he simply applied his abilities to objects. Of course, this effect couldn't be maintained forever; it would only last for a few seconds. However, that short amount of time was enough, considering that it was used as a hidden weapon.

The opponent was also intelligent enough not to turn on any sources of light, demonstrating a significant level of caution. But this tactic meant nothing to the tall man. As long as he could hit his target, it didn't matter if he couldn't see their face. Moreover, the tall man had already grown accustomed to darkness with his eyes. All he needed to do was aim for the target's hands and feet.

According to the plan, he would shoot through the target's leg to immobilize them. And if the target resisted, he would simply knock them unconscious. After all, capturing someone alive didn't necessarily mean they had to come out unscathed. As long as they had a breath left in them, it was sufficient for the tall man. He had no reason to be kind to his targets, although it may seem cruel. But it was a necessary evil. Besides, such actions had become second nature to him a long time ago.

Furthermore, the target posed a significant challenge for the tall man. Although close-quarters combat gave the tall man an absolute advantage, he detested getting involved in troublesome situations. Once the target's physical abilities became equal to that of an ordinary person's, there was no possibility of evading the tall man's hidden weapon, especially in the case of a surprise attack. It was the most efficient way to deal with the situation, as the tall man assessed.

Using the silhouette to determine the target's position, the tall man aimed and threw the sharp weapon. Temporarily turning into a metal rod-like paper, it paid no heed to the resistance of the air. It moved straight toward the target, colliding with the figure in no time. The silhouette let out a cry and fell down...

At least, that's what he thought he saw. It should have been like that. But in reality, the next scene he saw in his field of vision was the disappearance of the silhouette. The figure vanished without a hint, just like that? How was that possible? Could he have been mistaken? No, it was absolutely impossible. So, did the target evade his surprise attack? No, that was even more unlikely. Given the target's physical abilities, evading was impossible, let alone under a surprise attack. Then what on earth could it be?

Just as the tall man fell into chaos because his surprise attack had been evaded, he suddenly felt a sense of danger - one could even call it instinctual. Subconsciously, he quickly turned around, crossing his hands and raising them. As a result...

"Bang!"

As if to confirm the tall man's instincts, a metallic collision sound reverberated in the quiet underground storage room. Following that, the tall man's pupils naturally dilated, revealing a look of surprise. It wasn't because he received a powerful attack, but rather due to what he saw in his eyes at that moment. It surprised him. Due to the close proximity and the moonlight shining in from outside, the tall man finally saw the true form of the figure. In front of him stood a girl with long black hair, dressed in a red and white shrine maiden outfit, wielding a long sword.

"What... what is this?"
