Chapter 14: Goblin Caravan
update icon Updated at 2023/7/22 2:10:12

Adventurers glanced over in curiosity as a pink-haired girl with wavy hair began casting magic. Even though she was young, her black stockings and knee-high boots added a mature and alluring charm to her.

"This NPC is too beautiful!"

"I need to go talk to her."

"But she's a mage, she doesn't seem weak at all..."

Apart from the local adventurers, there were a few players in Rockfall Town as well. The Kessel Duchy was considered a sanctuary for most beta players, regardless of their race.

"Charge! Steal the DPS!"

Several players rushed forward, hoping to catch the attention of the beautiful NPC mage if they performed well.

"Roar!!!" Suddenly, five zombies appeared out of nowhere and attacked the group of adventurers.

"Zombies?!!"

The players were slightly startled by the horrifying sight of the zombies, and they were quickly overwhelmed in close combat.

"Why are there zombies here?"

Many adventurers were puzzled. Could it be that the dragon had brought along its undead minions? It didn't make sense though, did dragons have necromantic abilities?

"These five should come in handy..."

The zombies were naturally created by Shiki to create chaos among the adventurers, preventing them from stealing her monsters.

A flash of light streaked across the night sky.

"Roar!!!" The dragon let out an angry roar towards the sky, with a pitch-black spear embedded in its neck.

"Look!" One adventurer spotted a figure flying towards the sky. Wearing armor, the person landed directly on the dragon.

The dragon roared continuously, trying to shake off the adventurer on its back, but the more it struggled, the more it tore the wound.

Shiki tightly grasped the spear to stabilize herself.

"Black Flame!" The tip of the spear inserted into the dragon's neck erupted with black flames, causing the dragon to howl in pain and roll on the ground.

Shiki retrieved the spear and jumped back to Vikith's side, silently watching the wild dragon burn to ashes in the black flames.

System: "Congratulations on completing the A-rank emergency mission. The items dropped by the dragon will be distributed by the system."

"Dragon Skin × 5"

"Dragon Bones × 10"

"Dragon Soul × 1"

"Gold Coins × 100"

Seeing this series of information, Shiki felt relieved.

System: "Detection of Dragon Soul. The conditions for the second phase of the resurrection quest of the Dark Dragon King Visage have been updated. Collect Dragon Souls (1/1000)."

"..."

One thousand Dragon Souls. Shiki couldn't help but fall into deep thought. He had only obtained one from this wild dragon. At this rate, would he have to slay another 999 dragons?

The dragon was already dead, and the other adventurers had killed the five zombies as well.

"Who is the person next to that beautiful woman?"

"Wow, look at the equipment they're wearing. It all seems to be A-grade..."

"All A-grade equipment?!!!"

"Based on their skills just now, being able to burn a dragon with black flames, could they be a Magic Spearman?"

There were various speculations among the adventurers, but Shiki didn't care. He directly asked the Adventurers' Guild for the 1000 gold coin reward and obtained the qualification of an A-rank adventurer. Vikith was also promoted to B-rank.

However, it was impossible for adventurers in this town to be promoted to A-rank. They had to go to the Adventurers' Guild in the main city of The Kessel Duchy.

"So troublesome..." Since there was no hope of promotion, Shiki decided to leave.

"Let's go back."

As Shiki looked at the 1280 gold coins on him, he couldn't help but feel ecstatic. He could have a good meal in the city tomorrow.

"Yes."

The two returned to their inn to rest.

However, Shiki's troubles were just beginning. Being alone in a room with a single woman...

If Shiki didn't react to this situation, then he truly would be considered a monk. Vikith's soul may not be that of an innocent girl, but her current body...

This peculiar setup was making Shiki a bit overwhelmed.

The next day, Shiki and Vikith set off once again, preparing to head to the main city of Kessel, the Tenfang City.

Shiki still hadn't encountered any formidable opponents so far, except for the four Dragon Kings at the beginning. The others were all too weak in front of him."..." Shiki glanced at Vikith sitting next to him and couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. Vikith's body belonged to Ver, just like the frequently asked question: if your mother and your girlfriend swapped souls, and you had to choose one to save, what would you do?

Shiki calmed himself down. This was just a game, not reality. There was no need to be so conflicted. Just enjoy it. After all, in the real world, he was still a virgin.

During his spare time, Shiki opened the forum and browsed through posts from beta players.

"EU lucksters take you on a journey to the Angel's Kingdom! Stunning Angel photos included."

"The Succubus Street where anyone from any race can enter as long as they have money and energy. First entry is free."

"The invincible Goblin technology lets you experience the charm of steampunk."

...

There were many interesting posts, and there were even people who managed to draw the Angel race card. Shiki wasn't sure whether to envy them or not. Angels were the most popular race, with physical attack resistance, making them unbeatable against purely physical classes. The only downside was that they had no gender and could only choose their gender freely once they reached the intermediate level.

As for the Succubus Street, it was an extremely secretive place where countless succubi lived. The player who posted about it didn't even know how to find the entrance. Anyone who entered for the first time would receive a free service opportunity. The person stayed inside for a night and almost died. They posted the thread after coming out, and the pictures alone were extremely chaotic, comparable to certain selfies.

The thread gained thousands of comments but was eventually moderated...

"Goblin technology..."

What interested Shiki the most was the Goblin post. It seemed that men should definitely pilot mechs. A player who randomly obtained the Goblin race had gone through great lengths to get a job in the Goblin Consortium. They had witnessed the beauty of Goblin technology, from steam tanks to airships and robots...

It was true steampunk. Shiki really wanted to try piloting one of those robots. Men just couldn't resist steel machines like that.

He decided that after reaching Tenfang City, he would visit the Goblin Consortium.

Suddenly, the carriage stopped.

"Master..."

"We are getting off."

They immediately jumped down from the carriage. In front of their carriage, a group of bandits had blocked a merchant caravan.

"Goblin?" Shiki saw a worried and trembling Goblin hiding on the merchant caravan.

"A chance has come, Vikith, let's go..."

"Yes!"

The two quickly approached the group of bandits.

It was worth noting that Goblins were a highly exclusionary race. Even among their own kind, it was difficult for them to be acknowledged. The Goblin player was referred to as a wild Goblin by those in the Goblin Consortium. Their status was slightly higher than that of a slave, and they could only escape this status by constantly doing tasks for the Goblin Consortium and earning their reputation...

Goblins loved money, loved turning others into their slaves. They were like a representation of big capitalists. Shiki wanted to use this unexpected event to get in touch with the Goblins.

The system's mission trigger sounded, and Shiki knew that his choice was right...
