Act 203: We Need to Have an Open and Honest Conversation
update icon Updated at 2025/7/8 8:10:12

Having just landed directly from high altitude, I haven't had a chance to take a closer look at this academy city, known as the Central Twin Cities along with the Holy City of Tirasu. But now, from the office of the academy's chancellor, it is convenient to overlook the city.

The weather is beautiful today, unlike the rainy spring near the western coastline in Beacon City. Perhaps it is also due to the dry climate in the deep inland.

Under the deep blue sky, the cityscape of the academy is perfectly visible. Although I am renowned in the world as a Watcher, from Aya's perspective, this city is not inferior to those renowned scenic cities.

The most famous Milt Academy is located on a solitary island in the center of the city. Unlike ordinary academies, the entire island is covered by a castle that is more than three times the size of Gilliast, and this castle is the location of the academy.

A clear river surrounds the island, and a wide bridge spans the river connecting both sides. On the other side is the city, also known as the academy city to the outside world. The city revolves around the island where the central academy is located, with streets extending in all directions like a spider's web. Residential areas, commercial districts, leisure areas, all scattered in an orderly manner, dotted with lush forests and gardens. Although not as bustling as those famous commercial cities, everything is available, and it has a tranquil and leisurely atmosphere.

"By the way, why does this place feel familiar..."

Aya murmured as he leaned on the glass curtain wall of the French window. For some reason, he seemed to have a sense of déjà vu with this landscape.

However, Tiran's voice interrupted his reminiscence.

"Lord Lucius, I think we need to have an open and frank conversation."

"With me?" Lucius, who had already prepared to leave, stopped in his tracks and sighed with a somewhat resigned expression on his face, as if to say, "I can't easily fool you after all."

"Regardless, it's absurd to be appointed as the chancellor on the first day we meet, can you be honest with me?" Tiran leaned against the large desk, supporting his hands on the table, squinting his eyes to fix his gaze on Lucius's back.

"..."

Lucius remained silent for a while, then slowly turned around with a apologetic smile. "Alright, I apologize for my rudeness, I haven't told you the whole truth."

"In fact, before this, the chancellor had already informed me that Your Highness would come. It is said that His Majesty War King has already established communication with the chancellor through private channels."

"But it seems that the chancellor is somewhat reluctant to meet Your Highness, so he fled the academy before Your Highness arrived."

Tiran raised an eyebrow and asked Aya through the contract, "Aya, what do you think?"

"There must be some affair." Mixing with Tiran for a long time, Aya knew the way this prince's mind worked. He was the first to respond, and emmmm, he had suspected it before coming here. This chancellor has probably had some involvement with Granzon, the daughter of the War King.

"However, you still haven't explained why I mysteriously became the chancellor. It can't be that the chancellor left a note for you, right?"

"No, that's not it." Lucius smiled awkwardly. "The chancellor's exact words were 'just arrange it casually or lock up that little guy in a dungeon, as long as safety is ensured. I don't want to see Granzon's daughter.'"

A dungeon? This relationship seems a bit sinister. Tiran increasingly felt that his own father and the unfamiliar chancellor had some dubious intentions.

"You wouldn't really want to throw me in a dungeon, would you? I will resist." Tiran threatened with a grunt.

"Of course not, the chancellor was just joking... probably..." Lucius's tone also seemed a bit uncertain. "But your spontaneous departure has indeed caused us a headache."

Milt's fame is too great, especially in recent years. His reputation among the people is even better than that of the Temple Church. However, due to his frequent battles, he has made quite a few enemies as well. Although he left behind communication devices to be used in emergencies while he's away from the Holy Rank Academy, it still takes time for him to return. If there isn't a Holy Rank stationed there permanently, it would still be troublesome when facing strong enemies.

The problem is that the last of the Holy Trinity in the academy recently ran away...

Now, Lucius, as the dean of teaching, is troubled. As one of the people in whom the dean of the academy trusts, he temporarily takes charge of the academy's affairs. He has been nervous for the past few days, while desperately trying to figure out how to bring back the missing dean.

"So what you're saying is, I sit in the dean's position for now and then spread the word to trick that person into coming back?" Tiran's face is filled with black lines as he listens to Lucius's plan.

"That's the general idea." Lucius nods, speaking earnestly. "I hope Your Highness can agree to it."

Ahem, what, what? The princess is confused. Let me clarify. Are you saying that this damn academy currently doesn't have a single Holy Rank, and yet you expect me to trick someone who has run away from home?

"Aya! Xiaofeizi!" The princess is in panic, turning to the audience outside the scene for help.

"...I have nothing to say." Audience member number one turns his head to gaze at the scenery.

"You... Good luck, yeah." Audience member number two shows sympathy, then also looks at the scenery.

At this moment, all the princess can say is "damn it".

"Um, cough... " Tiran stammers, wracking his brain for a reasonable excuse to refuse, but in the end, he realizes he can't find one. Besides, even if he had an excuse, it would be hard to say it in the face of such pleading eyes.

"I'm sorry, it may be difficult." Before Lucius can even speak, Tiran continues, "Not because I don't want to, but because I can't. I have temporarily lost the power of the Holy Rank level, so I came to your esteemed academy for shelter. If you want me to take over as dean and shelter the academy, it's probably not possible."

"Oh, so it was because of this that His Majesty the War King sent Your Highness to the academy? I thought it was because His Majesty finally remembered the dean..." Lucius looks surprised. Wait, what's with that disappointed expression? What do you think Dad sent me here for!

"Now you understand, it's... "

"I think it's okay."

"Huh?"

"I've already understood Your Highness's situation. Indeed, the current situation in Milanía doesn't allow such news to be leaked. Please rest assured, since it's like this, we will do our best to ensure Your Highness's safety."

Ensure my ass!

Tiran is very frustrated. If the academy doesn't have a single Holy Rank, then in the end, if a Holy Rank comes looking for him, he would have to rely on little Angel, who is staying in Gilliast. It's better to just stay there.

"But I still think Your Highness can temporarily assume the position." Lucius is serious. "It won't take long. Based on my understanding of the dean, she probably hasn't left the academy city. She might just be wandering around the city in a bad mood. As long as she hears this news, she will immediately come back. So we just need to spread this news within the academy city."

"W-Why?"

"I can't say for sure about the specific reasons, but it seems that the dean places importance on this position." Lucius frowns in thought. "Speaking of which... It seems that every year, when the bills are reviewed, the dean's office receives a large allocation..."

Enough, shut up! I don't want to hear about this anymore!

"I'm really curious now about what kind of person this headmaster is." Aya tugged at the corners of her mouth.

"Stay quiet and watch the show." Tiran snapped the contract communication rudely.

...

And so, the matter was settled like this. Lucius promised to protect Tiran until his power was restored after the headmaster's return, and what Tiran needed was to temporarily act as the headmaster.

Although it fell short of Tiran's expectations of the three Holy Ranks, having one was still not bad. At least it could make those who wanted to attack him think twice. As for little Angel...since she was a fiery Angel, it wasn't suitable for her to reveal herself directly. Otherwise, whether it was the church or the goddess, it would be difficult to handle.

This news spread quickly within the academy city and occupied the top spot on the list of student topics.

"Hey, have you heard? Headmaster Shiera has also left. After Dia, all three Holy Rank individuals have finally run away?"

"Oh-oh-oh! The academy is taking a beating. Let it not have any holidays and make up for classes every day!" A certain academically challenged student who was constantly overwhelmed by makeup classes.

"Hmph, your news is too old. The disappearance of the headmaster was already leaked by the Student Council's news department in the wee hours of this morning. The latest development now is that a temporary headmaster has been confirmed." A certain reliable source sneered and pushed up their glasses.

"Already? Who could it be? Mr. Lucius or Miss Yuxia?"

"If we vote, I'm on Team Yuxia." A fat guy raised his arm and shouted.

"From the information I've gathered...it seems not."

"Not? Then who else could it be? Mentor Mellen? Or the Academic Committee? But other than Lucius and Mentor Yuxia, the strength of the other mentors seems to be far from Holy Rank."

"None of them. It seems it's someone from outside the academy."

"What? An externally hired Holy Rank? That's impressive. By the way, does the academy have such a system? If it's on an exceptional basis, the person should be quite formidable."

"Hmph, of course. Did you notice what happened this morning?"

"You mean the dragon that entered the academy's territory? I heard it was stopped by Mentor Lucius... Are these two incidents related?"

"That dragon... apparently, it's the mount of the new headmaster. So, have you guessed who it is?"

"...Woc, could it be..."

"Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh! Silver War Maiden! My wife!"

"Fat guy, I've put up with you for a long time! Are all women your wife? And you were just on Team Yuxia a moment ago. Are you trying to get yourself killed? As the captain of the Yuxia Goddess Support Team, I'll beat you to death today!"

...

In any case, there were both joy and worry, but most people were looking forward to the arrival of the new headmaster, the legendary dragon-slaying Holy Rank warrior, the Silver War Maiden.

At the same time, another person began to prepare to leave Gilles Castle.

"What a nice place it is, the 'Lighthouse' Academy, isn't it?"
