“This is going to be a show! The Burst King and the Thunder King have never gotten along. Neither of them has a pleasant temper, either. This is bound to be a clash between dragons and tigers!”
“Exactly. That divine scroll is something the Burst King is determined to obtain. If he manages to comprehend even part of it, his burst magic will probably reach a whole new level!”
“Who could disagree? The Burst King’s destructive power is already terrifying. If he comprehends this divine technique, there may not be a single opponent left for him on the continent!”
“Forget it. I was going to try competing for it, but I never expected two champions to show up…”
“Are you stupid? Is a person like you even qualified to touch a divine scroll? The opening bid alone will probably be tens of millions. Can you afford that?”
“Metorite Destruction. The opening bid is ten million gold coins!”
Auctioneer Bonnie spoke indifferently. Compared to the value of a divine scroll, this price had already been pushed quite low. Metorite Destruction had severe restrictions, after all. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been put up for auction. Its true value was still far below that of an ordinary divine scroll.
“Fifteen million!”
Because a divine scroll had appeared, no one in the auction hall bothered raising a bidding paddle. They simply shouted their bids aloud. Even the first person to raise the price wasn’t one of the two champions.
“Holy crap! Which lunatic dared to raise the price? Isn’t he afraid of being remembered by those two champions?”
“What do you know? Don’t forget, this auction is anonymous. Who would know who anyone is?”
“That may be true, but who doesn’t know who they are?! If a champion wants to cause you trouble, even the Rare Auction can’t protect you. Especially not against two champions this powerful.”
“There are plenty of forces on the continent that aren’t afraid of champions!”
“Besides, champions aren’t invincible!”
“Eighteen million!”
Bonnie looked toward the second floor. This divine scroll was worth far more than that. The truly wealthy bidders were all up there. The people on the first floor had limited funds, so taking away this divine scroll was practically impossible.
Of course, it was also possible that some hidden tycoon was sitting among them.
“This old man bids twenty million!”
Thunder King Benjamin’s deep voice rang out, and the hall fell silent once again.
“Will anyone continue bidding?” Auctioneer Bonnie called out deliberately. “Twenty million, once…”
“Thirty million!” Bor’s voice came from across the hall. Everyone immediately turned their eyes in his direction.
“Thirty-five million!”
“Forty million!”
Every gaze in the hall swung back and forth between the two champion powerhouses. Many people cursed inwardly. These two men were not only overwhelmingly powerful, but also incredibly wealthy. Each of them even had an entire kingdom standing behind them.
How were they supposed to compete?
“Sis Dragon, what kind of background does this Thunder King have?” Bexia asked Long Momo.
“This Thunder King, Benjamin, is the chief elemental mage of the Yaro Kingdom. He’s also the current king of Yaro’s biological great-uncle. His status is practically equal to the Dean’s.”
“Is he really that impressive?!”
Bexia was shocked by Thunder King Benjamin’s identity. At the same time, she understood why the two were competing so fiercely.
So both of them had backgrounds that made others look up to them.
“Benjamin, are you deliberately trying to go against this old man?!”
“I bid sixty million!”
“This is an auction. Money is the only thing that matters here!”
“I’ll add another ten million!”
“Looks like you’ve forgotten the might of burst magic.”
“Then why don’t you try my Thunder Blasting?”
The two champions continued trading words and bids. The price climbed from ten million all the way to eighty million.
Bexia listened to those astronomical figures in speechless disbelief. She had thought that having a million gold coins in her pocket was already a fortune. Compared to these two, though, she was practically a poor beggar.
Were their gold coins made of copper? Why were they worth so little?
“The value of a divine scroll can’t be measured in gold coins alone,” Long Momo explained when she saw Bexia’s confused expression. “Champions are strategic weapons for every kingdom. They’re the core of a nation’s deterrent power.”
“You need to understand that if a champion makes a breakthrough, it’s an overall improvement for the entire kingdom. That’s why every kingdom supports its champions with all its strength. Some will even help them improve at any cost!”
“So that’s how it is?” Bexia nodded.
In that case, this was no longer a competition between two champions. It was an invisible struggle between two kingdoms.
Metorite Destruction belonged to burst magic. Although every magic element could be studied, that was only possible among the six major branches.
Thunder King Benjamin, however, possessed the lightning element, a mutated attribute. This divine scroll was far less useful to him than it was to Bor.
He hadn’t come here for this item in the first place. After all, a divine scroll couldn’t directly increase one’s combat power. If he bought it and failed to learn anything from it, he would suffer a tremendous loss.
That was the situation from Benjamin’s perspective.
From Bor’s perspective, however, he was an elemental mage who specialized in burst magic. This divine scroll was something he had to obtain.
Before coming here, he had already discussed it with his nephew and received the greatest support possible. He had even brought along a fortune vast enough to rival an entire kingdom’s wealth.
“One hundred million!”
Bor’s bid was so enormous that it left everyone in despair.
If one hundred million gold coins were piled in front of Bexia, they would probably form a mountain. She couldn’t even imagine what that amount would look like.
In the end, Bor emerged victorious.
After all, obtaining this divine scroll had been his entire purpose in coming here. One of them was determined to win it, while the other had merely come to cause trouble.
Benjamin’s goal had never been this item. Compared to this slow method of increasing his strength, the next auction item was the one truly worth salivating over.
“One hundred million gold coins! For the third time!”
“Then congratulations to Lord Burst King for obtaining this divine scroll of Metorite Destruction!”
Bonnie had a maid take the divine scroll away for the transaction. Then she clapped her hands, and another tray covered with red cloth was brought out.
This time, the tray wasn’t carried by a maid. Auctioneer Bonnie took it herself and placed it on the auction platform. She then covered it with a half-meter-tall glass case.
“It’s here!”
Long Momo stared at the tray in Bonnie’s hands. Her entire expression suddenly sharpened, and her eyes turned as keen as lightning beneath the red cloth.
“Next is the final item of this Rare Auction. I’m sure everyone already knows what it is, even if I don’t say a word!”
“This is a true divine artifact. Legend says that the Dragon God bestowed it upon the Dragon Goddess. It possesses astonishing offensive power. Supposedly, even a casual strike from it can destroy a large city!”
“As for the rest, I won’t say much. There are some things everyone should already understand…”
Bonnie’s words carried a meaningful undertone.
The origins of this item were not exactly ordinary. Without sufficient strength, there was no need to ask whether one could keep it safe. They might not even possess the qualifications to use it.
Divine artifacts were not so easy to wield. Even a champion had to handle one with extreme caution. Otherwise, before defeating their enemy, they might already be tormented to death by the artifact itself.
