"Charge—!"
"Slay—!"
On the vast open plain, two armies of thousands clashed together, the clashing of gold and iron being the main melody here, where blood and violence formed the aesthetics.
As the two armies clashed, they left behind a ground stained with blood and countless bodies. Sensing the departure of people, the circling vultures high above in the sky descended in unison to feast on the remaining corpses.
"War breaks out again!" Theresa gazed at the bodies below, silently offering a blessing to the deceased.
"Do wars happen frequently here?" Liang Yue asked casually. In his eyes, a war involving thousands of people was nothing significant, just like a child's play.
"Gods wage wars for their faith. The losers risk losing their faith and face the danger of falling from grace. Therefore, these deities, in their quest to expand their faith, always launch wars of aggression against other cities," explained Theresa.
"Oh, deities?" Bexia murmured, although he was only a demigod for now, his memories from the past existence still intact. Ascending was simply a matter of desire. Even without ascension, he was able to outmatch anything beneath the eternal gods.
"Tell me about the ancient gods," Bexia was compelled by a force he couldn't defy to find immediate solutions in this world, as he couldn't be trapped here forever.
Primarily, he sensed that the power sealing this world was at the level of deities, making it impossible for him to break through with his current strength.
"Olosis Realm houses numerous deities, divided into three godly lineages - the God of War lineage, the Sun God lineage, and the God of Underworld lineage. The strongest among them are the god kings of these three lineages..." Theresa briefly explained the distribution of the divine beings in the Olosis Realm to Bexia. To his surprise, the world was brimming with divine beings. Even a small forest harbored a forest god, and a spring had its water deity. However, these deities were likely weak.
Likewise, Bexia deduce that the deities in this world were not truly immortal gods but a different kind of entity. Judging from his perception of the surrounding energies, it was challenging for this world to nurture true gods.
Following Theresa, Bexia witnessed over a dozen battles large and small within two days. This degree of intense conflict was no longer considered war but calamity!
"Where are you headed?" Bexia asked.
"Back home!" Theresa replied.
"Where is home for you?" Bexia inquired again.
"Just up ahead, the Free City of Gaer... a city that doesn't worship deities!"
"A city that doesn't worship deities?" Bexia looked at Theresa in surprise. From his understanding of this world, the power struggle for beliefs was fierce, so wouldn't a city without faith become a target for the watchful eyes of gods? Would the "gods" who wage wars for faith be willing to overlook such a delicious piece of the pie?
"Yes! It's a joyful city!" Theresa's eyes revealed boundless longing, gazing into the distance.
After another week of traveling, Bexia finally saw the Gaer City that Theresa had mentioned. In the midst of the raging war-torn world, this city stood out for its tranquility.
To the left was a vast forest, lush and green, with distant rolling mountain ranges visible. To the right was a winding river, flowing gently into the distance, nourishing the surrounding grasslands, where many cattle and sheep be seen.
"Is this your home?" Bexia asked the girl beside him, as they had become somewhat familiar during these days.
"Yes!" Theresa nodded.
"But I haven't been back for a long time!"
"Oh..." Bexia gave her a suspicious look.
"You didn't sneak out here, did you?"
"I just came out to play a bit..." Theresa said awkwardly, turning her head as if indeed caught by Bexia, who had guessed correctly.
"Why do you meddle so much? What business is it of yours?" Theresa exploded, annoyed by Bexia's scrutiny, glaring at him before trudging off in her boots.
Although they had seen Gaer City, a convincing reason stood with a mountain ahead. While such obstacles were trifling for Bexia, who teleport over it in an instant, accompanying Theresa meant refraining from using his powers as he didn't want to expose himself recklessly in this unknown world. Caution was paramount.
Theresa led Bexia along the forest route, rich in food. However, this place was the territory of the Beast God and the Forest Goddess. Theresa warned Bexia not to get too close, as non-believers weren't protected by gods and any monsters would view them as prey.
Yet, the more one worried, the more likely the event was to occur. As Theresa had just finished roasting the skinned rabbit over the fire, pairs of eerie green eyes appeared in the low bushes!
