Chapter 48 Chaos of the Underworld

Lulumon gave Bexia some pointers on the Road to the Underworld, then waved goodbye temporarily and looked forward to meeting him in hell.

"Well, I'm off!" Bexia said to the others. This time, even Christine couldn't follow him, because the Road to the Underworld could discern the nature of souls, and the charm runes could only protect one person. Even if Christine possessed someone, it would not work, as it couldn't avoid the scrutiny of hell's rules.

"Dad, I want to go to hell too!" Higanbana suddenly jumped out and said.

"Higanbana, don't be silly. Only one person can go to hell now. I'll take you with me next time, okay?" Bexia said, hugging Higanbana.

"Higanbana can go to hell by herself!" Higanbana took out her reincarnation mirror, then shone it ahead. Instantly, a vortex similar to the one Lulumon had opened to hell appeared.

"Master, bring Higanbana with you! She didn't originally come from hell, right? Maybe she can help you!" Christine suggested.

"Higanbana, can you really go to hell? Is it safe?" Bexia was still a bit worried about her safety, as Higanbana's own strength was not strong at all.

"No problem! Higanbana is very powerful!"

"Well, let's go then!" Bexia acknowledged Higanbana's origin as the guardian deity of the old hell, so there shouldn't be too many issues.

"But Higanbana, don't run around!"

"Okay! Higanbana won't run around!" Higanbana earnestly nodded in response.

"Alright, let's go!" Bexia applied the charm runes to himself, a force enveloping him, giving him a feeling similar to Lulumon in a black robe.

The vortex engulfed the figures of Bexia and Higanbana, their surroundings turning a dim yellow. Then, a golden road materialized before them, spanning a seemingly endless river, while Mochiyasen, Christine, and others gradually receded behind them. Ahead, an indistinct forest scene came into view!

Higanbana hadn't lied; she felt completely comfortable upon entering the Road to the Underworld, not even needing to use her reincarnation mirror. The yellow miasma around her had no effect, behaving like ordinary clouds, shifting and dissolving with her movements.

In contrast, without the protective power of the charm runes, even a wisp of the yellow miasma could corrode Bexia's body. It seemed frail, but in reality, it was hard to withstand, as it could bypass many forms of protection, reaching deep into the soul's core.

As Bexia moved forward, he witnessed more lost souls descending into the abyss from all directions. The specialized force against souls caused immense pain to these souls, akin to being thrown into scalding oil, emitting wretched cries, desiring to climb out but failing, continuously corroded by the waters of the Underworld.

Some souls attempted to swim out, only to sink back into the Underworld water, silenced after a burst of bubbles.

Yet, Bexia also observed some unique cases where souls, enveloped in a golden light, did not fall into the Underworld but floated above its surface, guided by their supposed "virtue" into hell serenely.

In ancient times, when the Naihe Bridge spanned the Underworld, the system was different. The bridge had three pathways: the virtuous ascended, a fewer number progressing peacefully into hell. The middle path was for those devoid of virtue, many in number, shoving souls down into the Underworld, where the sinful ones resided, closer to the waters, facing the constant threat of being engulfed.

Observing these scenes within the Underworld, Bexia was puzzled, though he vaguely recalled some legends about this concept.

The guilty sank faster in hell due to their heavy bodies, while the virtuous, carrying "merit," floated peacefully on the surface of the Yellow Springs, entering hell securely.

Ignoring these complexities, Bexia knew he couldn't change how hell operated. His priority now was to swiftly locate Lulumon within the ghostly city in hell; the rest could wait.

Just as Bexia unfurled the Wing of Azure Sky, preparing to speedily advance on the Road to the Underworld, a monstrous wave suddenly surged from below, and a colossal figure rose from the depths of the Underworld.

"You can't contain me, for I am an undying existence!" The colossal figure was a four-armed giant ape, breaking free from his chains and unleashing devastating blows, sending hell messengers flying.

"Come!" The four-armed giant ape reached out, and a vortex connecting the mortal realm appeared atop his head, a massive purple-golden staff materializing into his hands, sweeping fiercely into the Underworld waters, unleashing a power beyond words!

Bexia, in the vicinity of the giant ape, suffered from the catastrophic waves crashing onto his path of golden light. The trail fractured with each wave; although it held for a while, the onslaught eventually ruptured it.

"Insolent! How dare you disturb the order of Hell!" A thunderous voice boomed, the last sound Bexia heard before…
