Chapter 20: Writing

Collins rubbed his hands together and silently praised himself. This girl, Victoria, seemed quite similar to himself. But if Collins ever encountered a problem he didn't understand, he could consult his grandfather, a great magician, or at the very least, ask his father, a high-level magician. In every aspect, even though Collins was an introverted otaku, he was much better off than Victoria when it came to the basics.

"That's why I said you would never succeed. You haven't even mastered the basics of experimentation. You go about conducting experiments haphazardly, like a cat running into a dead rat. I suspect that even the experimental data you obtain is merely accidental. If you're unlucky, you may never achieve the results you desire in your lifetime."

What was most infuriating was that Collins' words made all of Victoria's years of aspirations seem worthless. He pointed out the problem with precision, and it was a true insult. But the words held more truth than insult, and it was well-intentioned.

He was right, he made sense.

Victoria hung her head low, tears dripping onto her skirt. The soft sobbing began to fill the small space, sending shivers down Collins' spine.

The young boy never imagined that he would make a girl cry again.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong? Please don't cry, sister. I, I was just expressing my opinion."

"I, I know, but, but..."

"Waaah..."

The sobbing intensified.

Collins became anxious and wracked his brain. Suddenly, he had an idea and pulled out a pen from his pocket. "Um, after looking at your experimental framework, I had a few ideas. Maybe I can help complete your incomplete magical research formation. Do you want to take a look?"

Victoria stopped crying and Collins diligently started modifying the basic structure. This was not an easy task, but for Collins, who could unravel even fourth-order magical circuits, it was just tedious and not difficult.

By the time the moon was high in the sky, the light illuminated the paper documents on which Collins was constantly calculating magical data. Delicate brightness reflected on the shadows of the pen tip, forming stacks of numbers and runic structures, gradually building enough outlines.

Victoria kept her eyes fixed on the numbers being written by Collins' hand. When the first internal loop structure was complete, she didn't show much surprise. The skills exhibited by Collins were still beyond her reach. But the skills and ideas displayed in the later completion and filling truly amazed Victoria.

It was a magic structure she could understand but couldn't imagine. The structural optimization and energy flow channels were nothing short of art. Finally, Victoria understood why Collins said her designed magical experimental structure was pitiful. Compared to the makeshift structure Collins had designed, hers was ugly to the extreme.

"Alright."

Collins handed thirteen sheets of paper to Victoria. Victoria immediately focused her gaze on the paper, not caring at all about Collins sitting next to her.

Fortunately, Collins didn't get angry about it.

"I'm Collins."

"Victoria."

"Well, it's getting late, and I have to go home. So, goodbye?"

"Yeah, goodbye."

Even now, there was no sign that Victoria wanted to lift her head.

Collins smiled bitterly and walked towards the direction of the elevator.

The entire corridor was left with just Victoria alone.

==========

Butler Lincoln glanced at the time on his mechanical wristwatch. Victoria had been in this hotel for almost half a day, and the butler had a good idea of what could be keeping his young miss from showing up. As for her safety, who knew how many protective magical gears Victoria had on her, so the butler wasn't worried about any mishaps befalling her.

However, as time passed, worries began to creep in. Miss had a soft heart, and if she encountered something unbearable, what would happen if there were problems?

Victoria wouldn't be harmed by outsiders, but if she harmed herself, it was uncertain. The butler hesitated whether he should go up and check on Victoria's situation with his staff. In hesitation, a figure walked out from the hotel entrance. It was not what the butler had expected - their young lady had a pure smile on her face, as if she had encountered something very good. She even walked and jumped with joy.

Opening the car door, Victoria got into her family's car.

"Um, young lady?"

"Yes?"

"Nothing, but you seem to be in a very good mood."

"Well, maybe I've met a very good person. Even if I didn't get the qualification of an intern teacher, meeting that kind of person still makes me happy."

The butler's spirit shook, wondering, "Could it be that the young lady has had an epiphany?"

"No, it's better to ask for clarification."

"Young lady, is that person a man?"

"Yes, he is a man, really a very good person."

Victoria looked joyfully at the new magical structure data given to her by Collins. It was something she could only look up to, to an extent that could instantly sweep away all the melancholy in her heart.

The butler was also delighted, tears streamed down his face. In his heart, he exclaimed, "Finally, our silly young lady can come out of that damn magic laboratory and finally shift her focus from those damn runes to boys of her age."

"Um, Grandpa Lincoln?"

Victoria held her face, blushing.

"Yes, young lady, what's the matter?"

"That boy's name is Collins. He is the dual-system chief of Loyates Magic Academy."

Lincoln's body trembled. The dual-system chief of a prestigious university, clearly an elite. The young lady's judgement was correct; she actually took a liking to such a boy.

"I want you to investigate him."

The butler patted his chest.

"Young lady, rest assured, I will have that boy's information delivered to you tomorrow morning."
