Chapter 6 Waking Up in the Mist
update icon Updated at 2026/1/25 19:00:02

Coyalu and I were flying in the air and came to a stop in the crimson sky of The Demon Realm.

"Father, according to your information, this should be the place. Where could that guy hide in such vast sky?"

"Don't call him 'that guy.' He is much older than you and you never know what he might do if he hears you."

Coyalu looked to the west for a hundred kilometers, not seeing any creatures in the sky but spotting some animal tracks on the ground.

"I can sense a faint dragon's aura, probably in a deep slumber, only taking a breath once a year."

I also felt the aura Coyalu mentioned, and from the information obtained from the Dragon Soul, I could figure out the abilities of this dragon and where to find it. I explained to Coyalu, "There's not even a single bird in this sky. They might have all been eaten. Eating meat once a year while breathing once a year, this dragon has probably devoured all the animals in this sky. There have been rumors of a giant hole in the sky where birds do not come out. That's where the dragon inhales and exhales, this very sky."

"This? This is a dragon. I've seen Thunder Dragons and Water Dragons, but what kind of dragon is this?" Coyalu pointed to the sky, where such a large expanse of crimson was just a normal sky, yet it was a dragon.

"A Mist Dragon. He can hide wherever there is mist and water. He must have been in a deep slumber for a long time, where the sky and the dragon have merged as one."

"Sounds impressive, but to wake him up, we must call out to him, the Dragon Summoning!"

"If you summon the dragons, all dragon races will feel it, including Marutian." The Dragon Summon is just a Magic that casts a wide net to see who responds first. The Dragon Command would be more suitable, but commanding a dragon requires specifying and making it reveal its true form to be successful. However, even if unsuccessful, as long as there are dragons within a certain range, there will be a response.

"Get ready, we're about to witness the dragon!" I raised my right hand to the sky, and the Dragon Command emitted a dazzling light. I heard a crisp "ding!" like something had collided, and a whirlwind arose, creating a scene of slow world-shattering. Being a Demon Lord, Coyalu was very sensitive, already forming ice arrows in his hands and shooting them in full force when he sensed danger.

As the lightning flashed by, the sky darkened, clouds swirled, and the torn sky slowly returned to its original state, merging back with the dragon.

The dragon roared through the clouds towards the sun, and now it was certain that the dragon existed. Mist gathered like a hurricane approaching, and a storm made me gaze up at the sky, where I saw an object resembling a dragon's head at the top of the sky.

"Coyalu, go attack his head. He needs a heavy blow to awaken."

"With pleasure!" Coyalu leaped onto the ice surface and quickly jumped to the same height as the dragon's head, fully pulling the bowstring of his ice bow. Knowing that the dragon's skin hardness surpasses all alloy steel plates, Coyalu had already applied a tenfold amplification Magic ring to the arrowhead.

As the arrow feather left the bowstring, a soaring spirit eagle appeared at the tip of the arrow. The eagle's beak pecked at the dragon's head, but after a prolonged attack with no result, the spirit eagle continued to strike fiercely until it shattered into pieces. Suddenly, the dragon's head appeared, and a ferocious roar echoed from that huge and dark dragon's mouth.

"Ugh! His breath reeks from too much sleep."

Coyalu, who understood the Dragon Summon, was not afraid of the dragon's intimidation.

Despite the commotion, only a dragon head appeared. It seemed like this dragon was still not fully awake, so let's give him something more stimulating.

With a Spatial Magic appearing in front of the dragon's head, the light emitted by the Dragon Command stimulated his nerves. Suddenly, blood thunder struck the sky, becoming even more intense, causing every pore from the dragon's head to its tail to contract.

Just like how people wake up cranky, dragons can be cranky too. The dragon's temper was so bad that not even the Dragon Command was acknowledged. Suddenly, appearing throughout the clouds, the dragon stretched out its wings, estimated to be five hundred meters long - a Celestial Dragon! Celestial Dragons may not be bad, but finding the Ancient Sea Dragon could mean a fiercer opponent. At least Celestial and Terrestrial Dragons are evolved versions of Sea Dragons, likely younger and with less experienced magic. The Sea Dragon could possibly be an ancient and powerful breed.

The dragon concealed itself in the mist, and me putting away the "Dragon Command" would anger him, leading to a failure in controlling the dragon.

"Father, can you teach me the 'Dragon Command'?"

"Interested? This move has a slightly lower attack power than the 'Dragon Conquest,' but the advantage is that you don't need to find a place to hide your body."

"As Lilith said, Father once had an exciting showdown with his own soul and the 'Dragon Conquest' against the 'Dragon Command!"

"That was truly dangerous. Whoever won that time was unlucky! In such a situation, whoever won meant that I, Qin Yang, lost, making it impossible to achieve the unity of dragon souls."

"I feel that this dragon can further enhance my abilities. At my age, seeing this dragon makes me very excited."

"Then go tame it."

Coyalu snapped the ice bow, dual swords in hand giving him a feeling of dominance. The dragon was faintly visible in the clouds, its back covered in protruding spikes. Coyalu forcefully seized control of the mist, causing it to slowly freeze and trap the dragon in ice.

"Coyalu, your idea is good, but have you considered how heavy the dragon and the ice are when combined?"

Coyalu instantly understood, as he was holding it up.

"The demon king... too much... magic..."

"I think he's even worse!"

The dragon flapped its wings vigorously, breaking through the ice blocks, causing them to collapse like an ice mountain crumbling. This was like a sudden torrential rain compared to a waterfall pouring down on the ground.

Coyalu quickly changed his tactics, unleashing a barrage of ice arrows from below the clouds, forcing the dragon to ascend. As it ascended, the mist naturally froze; in order to prevent this, the dragon had to dive. Seeing the dragon's ferocious and twisted claws extending from the clouds, Coyalu charged with his sword, the two colliding in the sky. The aftermath of the clash rippled with power, then suddenly erupted, dispersing the mist and exposing the dragon's body. Coyalu quickly reinforced the ice spikes in all directions to immobilize the dragon. This ice spike's tip could pierce through most of the Demon Dragon's skin, and whether it would succeed depended on whether the dragon dared to try. At the same time, Coyalu wanted to press the attack. He came to the dragon's face bare-handed and struck him hard, but I intercepted him.

"That's enough. He's awake now; further fighting is pointless."

Coyalu, this young old man, was very good at managing his emotions and could calm down when needed.

The dragon soul communicated with me in the dragon language, stating that in order to continue having a place to sleep, it must help me. There were only two choices for assistance: either personally participate in the war or transfer its power to me.

"Father, that's not really a choice," Coyalu couldn't help but comment.

"Faced with the Dragon Emperor, he can only obey, and he has no right to be proud."

Through the communication in dragon language, we learned that this dragon was exiled. He was unaware that the dragon world had been destroyed. He had fought with other dragons when humans were just born, wounded but killed the opponent by biting him. To heal, he hid in the clouds, but with no hope, he slowly found falling asleep to be a good choice.

"Done!" With successful communication, the ice spikes were withdrawn, and the dragon began to condense his dragon core. I also promised to help him transform into a human. Some dragons were unwilling to transform into other creatures, as the dragon race was noble; their dragon form was imposing on other creatures, giving a majestic, awe-inspiring, and overpowering feeling. However, the current world was too crowded, with humans dominating. To hide easily, one had to transform into a human, but my main idea was not to alert Marutian.

The dragon dispersed the fog surrounding itself, letting the mist envelop the empty airspace. The dragon core condensed to ensure safety before the dragon's body, and the swirling clouds outside created thunder, appearing in the distance like a stationary tornado with a layer of dangerous lightning on the outside. The other demonic beings dared not approach as the lightning ignited the surroundings.

On the dragon's body, layers of skin shed as the body shrank and sculpted. The dragon's form solidified into non-adhesive shattered dragon cores, with a complete core needed to maintain the stability of the transformed body. Achieving the final step with the dragon's own abilities was proving difficult, and that's where I needed to step in.

The golden band of the "Sealing Demon Knot" unraveled from my palm, with the Dragonbone Greatsword and the Sacred Demon Dragon's sword immediately in place, forming the pointers on the timeline. When the timeline appeared, time stopped completely around Coyalu and me.

"A time axis? Last time, I traveled back twenty years inside it."

"Do you want to go back again?"

"No, no, no. I don't want to experience that again, but how far back are you planning to rewind?"

"Thirty seconds should be enough. Too much would be unbearable; just woke up and already facing death, how unjust."

"So you mean when my brother transformed into a dragon using a blood-sucking method, he actually needed more external help to condense the dragon core?"

"Turning into a vampire dragon requires a lot of blood consumption; that was a mistake. Once the blood is depleted, the dragon form cannot be maintained."

My sword tip moved ever so slightly, very cautiously, after the last misstep that led to a time-travel, timing needed to be precise for safety.

As time rewound thirty seconds, we returned to the moment when the dragon was condensing its core, and when time progressed back to its original position, the power of the world suddenly surged. Controlling the power of the world was more challenging than absorbing it; it was crucial not to assimilate with the world's power while directing it towards the dragon core. Just a bit of the world's power absorbed into my body made the Dragonbone Greatsword tremble slightly, as my dragon core was on the verge of completion, causing the sword's vibration.

"Go forth!" The power of the world in my hands touched the dragon core in the cloud dragon's face, and with a forceful push, I locked my magic onto the core to prevent the world's power from separating. The dragon let out a painful cry, until an hour later, he fully absorbed and condensed the dragon core, transforming from a floating dragon into a solid man.

"By human customs, you should wear clothes. Pick out your own attire," Coyalu flew to the man and showcased numerous clothing options on a white paper. Dragonkind were not inclined to wear clothes, but appearing as a human without any garments would seem strange.

"This... might not be the best choice," Coyalu displayed a hint of embarrassment on his face. As I flew past him, I saw a pink female outfit...

"Wearing this is acceptable too, as long as you don’t let others know... that it's meant for females!" I couldn't help but feel speechless; the perspectives of dragons when just becoming adults were different from humans, and they didn't distinguish between male and female attire.
