Chapter 1 Sad Mourning
update icon Updated at 2025/11/13 1:10:12

In the early morning, as the sun rose from the sea level and the moon disappeared behind the clouds, I, Qin Yang, sat alone on a pure black floating wheelchair in front of the silver sea. For some reason, before the sunrise, the streets of this magnificent-looking city appeared empty of anyone.

"Turn around."

"Huh?"

Suddenly, a pair of hands grabbed the control panel on my wheelchair, and three fingers slid on the board. The virtual joystick moved the chair, allowing me to move out of this house's balcony and face the neighbor's balcony.

"I need to change clothes, can you turn around?"

"Nina, can you still think that I would do something inappropriate to you even after you pushed me out here? Besides, you already pushed me out."

Jiang Menna, the owner of the messy hair I woke up to an hour ago, claimed to be a 19-year-old college student, but... Maybe she had cried too much; her puffy eyes and lack of sleep made her look really bad.

"We're not familiar with each other, and it would be my loss if you see something you shouldn't see."

The sound of grooming floated into my ears, and an ordinary person would most likely have an improper imagination. But I didn't do that, not because I'm not an ordinary person, but because there were more interesting things on the neighbor's balcony that I was facing. There was a man and a woman passionately kissing, their intensity so hot that it made one's eyes burn. The two fiery figures were biting each other's already scanty clothing while facing the sun, and the woman's nails seemed to have pierced into the man's flesh, but he didn't mind the pain and kept going deep. In the face of such a tantalizing scene, any imagination vanished.

"Hi!" The couple, whose passion wasn't completely overshadowed by their rationality, noticed me at the crucial moment. They bowed to me with a embarrassed look on their faces, adjusted their exposed undergarments, and then retreated back into the room, pulling the curtains closed.

"What's your name? Can't you remember?"

"I can't remember."

"Well, that's unfortunate. If I were in your situation, I might break down."

"But, I think I remember that I was originally underwater. Did Menna save me? Where is this place?" Not remembering my name was a lie. From the moment I woke up, the TV was reporting on the opinions of five island countries towards Qin Yang, and it seemed like they were looking for me.

"We'll talk about all of that when I come back. The doctor instructed you to rest. There's something strange inside your body, and until the doctors here figure out a safe way to remove it, you'll need the wheelchair. So don't try to stand up, you'll only hurt yourself, okay?" Menna tidied herself up, wearing a neat and heavy black outfit. Her petite figure wasn't particularly eye-catching, and she didn't dress up meticulously, just casually tidying up. The exhaustion clung to her, even her delicate features appeared dull. She exuded an ordinary feeling all over, and judging from my perspective, she might enjoy being an "invisible person" in her daily life.

"Something strange inside me?" I weakly touched my own body and felt something hard on my left abdomen.

"Don't touch it. Dr. Magic said it's dangerous. Wait for me to come back, I'll check it when I help you bathe."

"Huh? You...help me bathe? Are you kidding?"

"I've been taking care of you for these past few days while you left the company in my care. Is there anything I haven't seen? I have experience taking care of children." Menna forced a smile on her exhausted face.

A child? Am I a child? Yeah, no matter how I look at it, I seem to be in my teens.

Menna was about to leave, holding a bag in her hand of the same gloomy color scheme.

"Are you attending someone's funeral?"

Sister Mengna stopped in front of the door, as if deep in thought, then said, "It's a memorial, they haven't even found the body."

"I'm sorry, so Sister Mengna cried because of this?"

"That's part of it, but time is running out. Take care of yourself, I'll be back soon." Sister Mengna left the suite, leaving me alone in the slightly messy room.

The suite faced the sea, with a sandy beach below. It was located on the twentieth floor, and I didn't know how tall the whole building was, but from what I could see, it seemed like a high-end apartment building. Would an ordinary girl live here? And she mentioned the company at the end? Wasn't she supposed to be a college freshman?

I leaned back in my wheelchair, facing the warm morning sun. My mind was filled with memories of the last crack I saw, the final attack of the dragon that had indeed hit me, and then my body lost all sensation of the outside world. What happened to me afterwards, and... the Dragonbone Greatsword seemed to have disappeared. It was a situation I had never experienced before - the sword would disappear when it left my hand and wait for me to summon it again, but this time it seemed to have been lost in the sea.

"Ah, ah, ah, ah~ I'm so annoyed! Where on earth am I?" I couldn't suppress my thoughts. Although this place was beautiful, it was completely unfamiliar to me. And this floating wheelchair seemed to control all the furniture in the room at all times. How could its appearance compare to the elegant design of the Duke's mansion or the antique chairs my father collected?

Suddenly, a group of people in black appeared downstairs, carrying flowers and various strange items. They placed them on little paper boats made of paper, and lined up in an orderly manner to the seashore. An old man with white hair emerged from the crowd and solemnly spoke in front of everyone.

I looked down from upstairs and finally spotted Sister Mengna in the crowd. Indeed, it was really difficult to find her among the people. She was short and unremarkable, trailing behind the line.

The beautiful view of the sunrise faded away, leaving a line of people in black and white facing the sea, sadly releasing the paper boats in their hands. It seemed like these things on the paper boats were offerings. Was this a sea burial? Who were the "they" that Sister Mengna mentioned?

The floating wheelchair slowly retreated into the room. Given the current situation, I needed to stay here for a while. The events of the past few days had left me exhausted. Now I needed to rest.

"Ugh! My head... What's happening? Flame of Punishment and Blood Thunder aren't responding!" Just a slight movement of my magic, and my head felt like it was about to explode. I could clearly sense something suppressing my magic.

"A magic seal? Or a seal? What did that dragon contain in its final fireball?" Subconsciously, I understood why the doctor said the thing in my left abdomen was dangerous, that it was risky to forcefully extract it, and keeping it inside my body was equally dangerous. Without magic, I returned to being a "helpless lamb." No, I was even worse off, because I didn't have a trace of magic left. Could I awaken the Flame of Punishment or find a way? But that thing didn't respond at all.

"Brother, are you the new neighbor? Are you Mengna's new boyfriend?" A man on the neighboring balcony, lost in thought, walked out with a bottle of water, shirtless, his body covered in scratches.

"Huh? You... so soon?"

"Hey, hey, don't get any wrong ideas, young man. That woman left early, really heartbreaking."

"Hahaha, she left at a time like this, was it intentional?"

"Who knows, anyway, I won't look for her again next time. By the way, you still haven't answered my question."

"I'm the new neighbor, but I'm not Sister Mengna's boyfriend. Look at me, I'm just an injured person." The wheelchair floated out slowly.

"Are you a survivor of the Dragon Roar Sea?" The man choked on water and couldn't believe his eyes when he saw me.

Actually, he was right. I was indeed a survivor of that sea.

"The Dragon Roar Sea, where is that?"

"It's right here, the sea we're facing now. It's only three hundred kilometers away. Look at all these people mourning the victims."

"It's really heartbreaking."

The man next to me turned his back to the sea and said, "If it's too painful, just don't look. These people are just putting on a show. As long as they're happily alive, it doesn't matter if they know or not, you should treat Miss Jiang Menna well. Although she's an ordinary girl, she's also quite introverted."

"I'm still waiting for her to take care of me."

"Brother, I've said what I had to. You figure it out. Just a reminder, her boss is quite troublesome."

"Her boss?"

The man returned to his room, leaving me alone. I found it strange that he had given me so much information. The summary would be that Miss Jiang Menna had someone she knew die in the Dragon Roar Sea, she had just broken up, and she had a troublesome boss.

2

Half an hour later, Jiang Menna's petite figure came back. She had bags and bags of things in her hands, and suddenly dropped a pack of underwear.

"For whom is this?"

"For you. It's time for you to take a bath!"

"Are you... sure?"

After putting down her things, Jiang Menna didn't mind at all.

"Boss, when you arrived here, you weren't wearing any clothes."

I felt the heat of embarrassment on my face. No wonder she had been looking at me since the beginning, but where were my clothes? Oh, they must have been burned by the fireball.

"Can I ask who your boss is?"

"After the bath, I'll tell you slowly."

Jiang Menna said she would help me take a bath before leaving, and indeed that moment had arrived.

The situation in the bathroom became even more awkward, but only for me.

"Hey! Can't I do it myself... wow..."

"Can you just relax?"

"Relax... why do I have to expose myself completely while you can ask me to turn around?"

"Because you're the patient, and you can refuse."

3

"Feels comfortable, right?"

Jiang Menna quickly wiped away the water droplets on my body.

"Yes, it feels very comfortable. Jiang Menna, are you a professional nurse?"

"No."

"Then what do you do?" After being dried off, my body felt great.

"I'm an intern celebrity assistant." After making me completely clean, she smiled satisfied. Lying on the bed in this state was quite boring, it felt like being in prison.

I felt like I misheard something, she said "intern celebrity assistant"? Can assistants intern?

"Do assistants need to intern?"

"My mom is retiring, and it was hard for her to get the boss to give me this internship opportunity, to take over her position. There are as many assistants as grains of sand in our country, but it's difficult to find a job like this with a celebrity that has been famous for a hundred years."

"Famous for a hundred years? Who's that amazing?"

Jiang Menna looked at me like I was a monster, as if asking that question made me an idiot.

Right on time, on the TV that was always on, an advertisement appeared. It was for a skincare product, featuring a beautiful and delicate spokesperson with smooth and tender skin.

"That's my boss."

"Song Yihe? It sounds familiar." The name was mentioned below the spokesperson's picture.

"Of course, when she was all the rage in The Human Realm, we weren't even born yet. Now she's only focused on movies, so anyone with a little knowledge would know her."

I think this hundred-year-old actress named Song Yihe looks familiar not because I have seen or paid attention to her, but because there is someone around me who looks a bit like her. But I can't remember who it is in an instant, anyway, this woman is very familiar.

"By the way, it was my boss who brought you back from the seaside. You must remember to say thank you when you see her, okay?" Sister Muna seems to be coaxing a child when talking to me.

"Is it her? I have absolutely no impression of her."
