Chapter 24
1
"Dragons?" Anubis spoke with a heavy and certain voice.
"As statues, who gave you autonomy?"
I held the Dragonbone Greatsword in my hands, with magic coursing through it. Before this, I was reluctant to use the Dragonbone Greatsword because I could only use it with the limitations of my half-dragon form. But I was curious as to why the sword couldn't separate. And I didn't believe I was Reisgolo. I should be either Demon Dragon or Holy Dragon. The "real me" was still inside the sword. I must not be Reisgolo yet. If I became Reisgolo, I would know many things, although I would forget most of them later.
"It was us, standing here for three million years. We may have become sentient as well."
"You clearly don't have souls!"
Anubis and the giant sword moved away from each other, immediately launching a second attack.
The two Anubis statues attacked from the top and bottom, and my sword plunged into the sandy soil, stirring up a fierce sandstorm.
"Mr. Dragon, sand is ineffective against us." The two Anubis statues fearlessly faced the raging sandstorm. Their staffs were sharp.
Fire erupted as the flames hit the two Anubis statues. The force of the explosion made them unable to open their eyes. The raging sand created a space for us to escape.
I took Zi Sirou and temporarily left. Later, I heard the howling of wolves, calling for their companions. Dealing with these soulless Anubis statues made no difference between death and life. They could die and be reborn at any time. The key was to first solve the problem that allowed them to come back to life. It would be more convenient than defeating them.
Zi Sirou took off her mask and asked me, "Where are we going now?"
"Anywhere works, the key is to go down." I grabbed Zi Sirou's wrist and ran forward, choosing any intersection based on intuition. These routes had never appeared on Guffy's map, so we could only rely on ourselves.
"Oops!" I accidentally kicked a mechanism, and a hole appeared in the corner of the wall. It was pitch black inside, but we didn't think too much and jumped in without hesitation.
"It's so dark!"
After we entered the room, the mechanism closed, and there was not a trace of light. The omnipresent sources of light had disappeared, leaving only darkness.
"Do you have a flashlight?"
I saw a dazzling light in front of me, as Zi Sirou held a flashlight in her hand.
"Of course, you just didn't wait for me to take it out earlier."
"They probably won't be able to find us."
"I don't think those Anubis statues have any sense of smell. As long as we don't use magic, they won't be able to find us."
"I wonder what abilities the Sphinx has. Luckily, the Sphinx we passed by earlier also didn't have a sense of smell."
We slowly searched in the secret room, which seemed to be another corridor.
"This should be another burial chamber!"
"The incomparable darkness. Did people at that time not have any other words?" I said as I looked at the words on the wall.
"Since we came in until now, the walls have only had words. There hasn't even been a single painting. It's normal for them to run out of words after writing so much."
The two of us continued along the corridor and quickly found another burial chamber. This time, I wondered if I could find where the mummy's magic came from.
"Turn off the flashlight."
Zi Sirou turned off the flashlight, and we both leaned against the wall, holding our breath. The two Anubis statues came walking towards me, their red eyes flickering in the darkness. It was so eerie.
"Just now, there was howling near the Fu Yumu Tomb. I don't know what happened." Below their red eyes, one of the statues held a bone, as if it had eaten the monster at the entrance.
"If they call us again, we'll go over. We've been guarding this tomb for too long, and we don't know who this tomb raider is."
Anubis slowly approached us, and in just ten more steps and a left turn, it would be able to see us. Its giant sword was ready, poised to strike and bring it down with one blow.
"Woof woof!" The echoes of wolf howls reverberated in the pyramid.
"Let's go. They haven't found the tomb raider yet."
"First, let's make sure the tomb raider isn't here with us."
"We just came from over there. If they were here, we would have seen them already." Suddenly, two red-eyed Anubis statues leaped to their companions at the fastest speed.
Zi Sirou lit up the area with her flashlight again, but the corridor was empty.
"Don't they know about the secret passage we just used?"
"Who knows? These Anubis statues all have their strengths and weaknesses. The previous two were agile and strong but liked to take shortcuts, while the others were good at using curses but lacked stamina. The last two were a bit absent-minded, confidently walking past us even though we were only two steps away."
"They may look human, with all our flaws and weaknesses."
"But they don't have souls; they have thoughts. Such weird creatures. According to common sense, thoughts come with memories, and memories are an essential part of the soul."
"These weird creatures actually look quite handsome." Zi Sirou picked up her camera and took a picture. In my eyes, all the walls looked the same, so I wondered why she bothered.
"They look like dogs. You're really insulting the word 'handsome'."
This tomb in the pyramid was really not difficult to find. It's no wonder that adventurers who had explored it once felt that there was nothing worth returning for, except for the fact that several generations had come and gone, unsure if any adventurers were ever really here.
"So this is the so-called Tomb of Ka Wei?"
"The inscriptions on the walls say that his dark magic was unmatched at the time. The environment around the burial chamber should be related to their abilities. When we open his tomb, I want to see where the magic comes from!"
When we opened the sarcophagus, Zi Sirou picked up two masks.
"None of these two masks fit the mummy's face. How are you going to test them?"
"Step back a bit. Now that I have it, I can do a lot more." I raised the dragon bone sword in front of Zi Sirou, making sure she could see my sword clearly.
"You can actually swing such a heavy sword."
"With this sword in hand, my magic will flow endlessly, and I won't need to use even a speck of star magic to swing it."
My magic penetrated into the mummy's mask, and my hand slowly drew out the magic from the mask. The mummy's magic was tainted with corpse poison, fortunately, it was naturally formed and could be resisted by the divine fire.
After extracting the mummy's magic, a surge of magic flowed into it from bottom to top. Seizing this opportunity, my magic entered the mummy's body. It was extremely challenging for magic to wander in such a withered corpse.
My magic clashed with the newly replenished magic. In this moment, I felt this magic was familiar.
"This magic is Ma Rutian's? It's the same but even more powerful!"
"Who is Ma Rutian anyway? That name doesn't sound impressive."
"Ma Rutian was just his original name in that body. Who knows what he was called before, but he was definitely a dragon."
"So he offended you?"
"He stole someone from me!"
"Wow, he stole someone? Elena?"
I turned my head to look at her, putting all my strength into staring at her, something I haven't done in a long time.
"What fierce eyes. So, it is Elena. You can deny it, but your eyes cannot lie."
"Shut up."
"Oh, so grabbing someone means Elena doesn't love you anymore?"
"Zi Sirou, if you mention Elena again, I'll switch places with the mummy."
"Hmph, she's not by your side. I am."
"I didn't ask you to come."
"Qin Yang, you!"
"Can we please have some peace and quiet!"
Zi Sirou sat angrily by the stone coffin, picking up her camera and remaining silent.
My magic entered the mummy's body. Although it moved slowly, as long as I followed the path of magic replenishment on the mummy, the magic would flow smoothly.
Now the magic was like my eyes. It went wherever I looked, circling around the mummy. After completing a full circle, the magic found a passage that extended all the way out of the mummy's body.
"Foreign magic!"
After leaving the mummy's body, the magic seemed to enter the roots of a lush tree. The roaming magic constantly searched through these roots, which resembled a maze. Every path was connected, but where did it lead to? Where did it originate from? Suddenly, the magic seemed to enter another mummy, and then another. It passed from one to another, with each mummy directly connected to the others. The journey continued in a cycle, and the speed of magic flow was equivalent to the speed of light. Finally, my magic completed its journey through all the mummies, leaving only one root. The magic followed its course, and in an instant, it seemed to enter a vast ocean of magic, rendering my own magic insignificant.
"Hey, hey!"
Although I heard Zi Sirou's call, I didn't respond to him. All my thoughts were focused on this vast Magic ocean, a place without any defenses, a free and unrestricted ocean. And suddenly, I realized that any creature would resist foreign magic entering their bodies, even if it was someone familiar. Only this enormous magic seemed to have lost its owner and remained defenseless. What could this container that held the magic be?
Zi Sirou continued to call me incessantly, but I was reluctant to leave this sea of magic. If I could obtain this magic, would I be able to fully manifest as a dragon? Greed arose within me as I desired to possess it, just like when I obtained the power of the Twenty-Year World. I wanted to become a complete dragon, not just defeat Ma Rutian, but truly triumph over him, not through gambling, like in The Demon Realm, but through genuine victory.
"Qin Yang!"
"It seems he can't hear your voice, little sister!" Three Anubises and a lion-headed figure stood before us, their eyes also glowing red, perhaps so they could see clearly in the darkness.
"I want to ask, do you guys like taking photos?" Zi Sirou took out her camera and waved to them.
"Photos?"
"Like this." Zi Sirou took a picture of them and then tossed the photo to them.
The three Anubises gathered around the photo, curious about it.
"Wow, it's a photo! I haven't seen one in ages!"
"Have you seen one during your ten-year vacation? I haven't even had a vacation!"
"Of course, we don't even have mirrors here. Photos can show us ourselves."
"Is this you or me, or him?"
"Well... we all look the same." The Anubises were all carved in the exact same way. They looked at the photo, unable to distinguish who was who.
"You guys are so tall! Let me see!" Even if the lion-headed figure stood up on two feet, it still wouldn't match the height of these two-meter-tall Anubises.
"Qin Yang is right, this group of Anubis really lacks brains."
