Chapter Seven
1
In the October of that year, the desert winds brought sandstorms. Guffy, with her head wrapped in a scarf, walked to a desert town. To the south of the town, there was a hotel. Guffy took a glance at it and found a pattern on the inside of the door frame, a strange and mysterious pattern that only experienced adventurers would recognize as a secret code - a signal for gathering companions.
Finding this code in the kingdom was not easy for Guffy. The resistance of the people of Amoetonia to outsiders made it difficult for adventurers to establish such places. After all, out of ten people who came here for adventure, nine of them were drawn to the over a thousand pyramids that grew with each passing era and the mysteries of Magic in this kingdom.
The hotel was very quiet. There were a few locals scattered around. Guffy had a conversation at the front desk and was led downstairs by the receptionist. Inside, it was bustling and entirely different from the facade.
Guffy took off her scarf and leaned against the counter, watching the adventurers in the arena. A tall figure with great strength punched his opponent's left cheek, followed by a powerful knee strike to the opponent, who fell onto several empty barrels. The barrels shattered, and the opponent was severely injured.
Usually, most people in the arena came to demonstrate their strength and find adventure companions. But this tall figure clearly had a grudge against someone; it was a fight to the death.
At that time, Guffy's skin had already been tanned to a bronze color in this kingdom. Her silver-white long hair quickly became the center of attention in this underground arena. Unconsciously, several people approached her to strike up a conversation. However, these people all ended up with a small note stuck on their foreheads and stood frozen in place. The people around found it amusing and started hanging various things on them, like chili peppers and empty bottles.
"Feifei, it's really you."
Guffy looked up and saw a veiled woman. She didn't speak, but a voice conversed with Guffy in her mind.
"Qing?"
"You've gotten so dark, and without your hair, I wouldn't have recognized you."
Guffy had met her when she was adventuring thousands of kilometers away in the Inland Sea, north of Amoetonia. Her voice had a strong stimulating effect on magic, and having her around was like having a powerful support. However, listening to her voice for a long time would harm those who had heard it before, so she rarely spoke.
"This place is so remote, there's no sunscreen. I can only do this!" Guffy picked up a small mirror. Her face in the mirror had a bronze color. Although she had become darker, it was a very healthy complexion. And Guffy always kept the parts of her body that were exposed to the sun evenly tanned, giving her a fascinating appearance.
"Feifei, are you interested in the pyramids?"
"There's no way I'm interested. I came here by chance. With over a thousand pyramids, which one is the one I need?"
"This time, it's purely personal interest."
Guffy was very troubled. She said, "If I could choose, I would choose a beach as the adventure location."
"Haha, will you take me with you on the next beach adventure?"
"You're not planning to come with me this time?"
"If everyone is going to the same pyramid, then I might consider it."
While they were happily chatting, a man tried to strike up a conversation.
"Hello, miss."
"What's so hello about it? Haven't you seen the fate of those people?"
Guffy spoke bluntly. She had always partnered with women more than men because she felt that whether it was a man or a woman, they usually only cared about self-preservation when faced with danger. If a man couldn't even protect himself and still looked at her with a leering gaze, then she'd rather find a woman as her partner.
"No, it was seeing the lady's incantation and hearing her voice that made me think you could be useful teammates for us."
"You heard it?" Qing looked at him.
The man tapped his temple with his hand and said, "Very clearly."
"What's your name?"
"Sorry, you two are just too beautiful, I forgot to introduce myself— Adventurer, Maru Tian."
At that moment, Guffy looked at Maru Tian's friendly face and chatted with him for a few minutes. She felt that Maru Tian was someone who had a strong longing for adventure, having been to many places, including the "Magic Realm" of The Demon Realm. However, from his description, it was truly a matter of life and death. Since then, he believed that it was difficult to get along with the demonic race, as they would use their magic power at the slightest disagreement. Moreover, the magical strength of the demonic race was abnormally high compared to someone like him, a human.
Maru Tian strongly persuaded Guffy and Qing at that time. His enthusiasm was irresistible to the two girls, and he did not look at Guffy with the same lewd eyes as other adventurers. Based on this, Guffy felt that she could trust him. After Guffy and Qing joined, Maru Tian introduced his other five teammates to them. As expected, "birds of a feather flock together," these people with Maru Tian were all young people who were extremely passionate about adventure. According to their Magic levels at that time, they were probably at the High Intermediate to High Advanced level. Although their abilities were not particularly outstanding, adventure didn't necessarily require very powerful Magic.
"Which pyramid are you planning to go to?" Guffy and them were having a conversation in their room on the second floor of the inn. Is adventure an impulsive act? As the leader, Maru Tian should also know what the followers are thinking.
"Our adventure goal is very clear. We want to learn things that others don't know, so we do things differently from most people. This time, we are going to the pyramid that has been heading west of here."
"The Suvi Pyramid?"
"No, it's the Rotama Pyramid." Maru Tian shook his head.
"Rotama? That's a small pyramid, its height is not even fifty meters before weathering, and the base area is not particularly large either."
"Statistics don't say much, it's the content that matters."
"But the Rotama Pyramid has long been explored thoroughly, is there still something we don't know about?"
Maru Tian took out a very old book from his bag. The book was tattered, with yellowed pages. Clearly, it was not made with modern papermaking techniques, but rather with very ordinary paper.
"This book seems like it's falling apart." Qing's voice entered everyone's minds.
"Such an old book is the truly valuable thing. I got this book from a beggar. At that time, the beggar was already on his last breath but still clutched onto it. He said it had been passed down through hundreds of generations in his family, and his ancestors were among the first group to enter this pyramid." He seemed very excited when talking about this book.
They slowly became interested in this book as well.
"The words in the book are too ancient, it's hard to understand with our current reading habits. It took me a year, but I managed to make out some things. At that time, an adventurer team entered the pyramid, and everything went smoothly. They learned a lot about the burial chamber, burial objects, murals, and so on. But one person, believed to be the author, always felt that this pyramid should not be completely explored. He believed it had its unique secrets. So, he repeatedly entered the pyramid, and this book is a record of his repeated entries!" Maru Tian pointed to a line of words and said, "Within the central pillar of the pyramid, there is a hollow space. Hold your breath until your brain starts to lack oxygen, and you will hear a mysterious calling."
"Mysterious Call?"
