Chapter 2
1
“Here.” Lilith came back with a little cake, and something else in her hand.
The moment I saw that “something,” my vision went dark.
“These sunglasses look so good on you~” Lilith plopped down next to me, hooked my head against her chest with her left arm, and pulled out her phone to snap a pic.
So soft. Way too soft. I suddenly felt like just lying there and not moving.
And the sunglasses actually felt pretty comfy, gave me this real vacation vibe.
Why didn’t I think of bringing shades before?
“Do you seriously need sunglasses under the Demon Realm’s crimson sky?” Nana looked at us taking selfies, utterly unimpressed.
The sky of The Demon Realm was eternally blood-red.
That was this realm’s special trait—endless killing and slaughter had stained the heavens with resentment.
“They look good, and they weren’t even that expensive.”
“By the way, Lilith, do these shades have a prescription?”
“Nope.”
I suddenly realized I hadn’t worn my glasses in ages—ever since I reclaimed my identity as the Demon Dragon.
“What’re you doing?”
“Posting the photo online.”
“Huh? Hey, hey, don’t—…uh!”
A line of text popped up right in front of my eyes: Upload successful.
“Cool, right? I’ve got great taste.” Lilith studied the photo carefully, bursting into little chuckles, clearly very pleased with herself.
Nana looked a bit confused. It was just a picture—why was I so worked up? My face had gone pale like some catastrophe was about to drop on my head.
“It’s just a photo. Do you need to freak out like that? Uploading pics has been a trend for, what, centuries now.
What I don’t get is: since when did my little sister start liking this kind of thing?”
“Recently. I’ve been in such a good mood that everything feels fun.” Lilith was grinning from ear to ear.
Thinking back to the first day I met her, the thing she cared about most was her height.
Now she didn’t have to care anymore—anyone would be so happy they couldn’t sleep for days.
Only problem was, with this current figure of hers, there’s no way I could just pick her up like before.
“In three minutes, you’ll understand.”
Didn’t even take the full three.
My phone started ringing nonstop, vibrating like crazy.
Caller IDs flashed on screen—Liliu, Hanya, Xiao Qiong, Xiao Yao, Qin Ying.
They were all calling at the same time.
“Death calls from the underworld, huh.” I shook the phone and muttered.
2
All that fuss, just because of one photo of Lilith.
I spent a good while soothing that storm of resentment, and I really started to regret not telling them my winter break plans.
But honestly, this was mostly Lilith’s fault.
Everything had been lined up so nicely—Wenxin being my sister, I’d already prepped everyone mentally.
As long as I got on the plane and left The Human Realm, they’d have no way to track me down.
That would’ve saved me so much trouble.
An hour later, the plane took off right on schedule.
Even ten thousand meters up, Lilith’s excitement didn’t drop at all.
She dragged her sister into nonstop chatter the whole time.
There weren’t many people on this flight, just a few scattered passengers.
You could even say there were more crew members than guests.
Word was, anyone who rode this plane was seriously high-end.
Turned out that wasn’t an exaggeration.
There was a built-in bar and restaurant on the lower deck.
The upper deck was split into several big rooms.
I hadn’t seen the other rooms, but my own was ridiculously huge—basically a full three-bedroom apartment.
This flight was going to last more than a full day and night.
If I had to sit in a regular seat the whole time, I’d be scared I’d die of boredom.
“Sis, why haven’t the other envoys shown up at all?”
Lilith hugged a small pillow, rolling back and forth on a huge round sofa, the kind of luxury you’d almost never get to sit on normally.
“They’re outside.”
All the other envoys were outside the cabin, each at their post, guarding their own sector.
Nana sat at the little side table, fingers flying as she edited a document.
A swipe of her hand, and the file projected out in front of us.
The page was crammed with numbers and text tables.
“What’s this? A timetable?”
“Your schedule.”
“So are you here as my bodyguard or my secretary?” I stared at Nana in surprise.
She was doing everything—bodyguard, driver, secretary.
What else could this girl even do?
Don’t tell me…
Nope. Too pervy.
“All of this falls under my job. Just take a good look.”
“Huh? If Sis is the secretary, then what am I here for?” Lilith sat up.
“You’re here as his travel buddy.” I pointed my sunglasses at her, teasing.
“Screw you!” Lilith flung the pillow right at me, and I couldn’t stop laughing.
“But I never follow schedules. Kind of a waste of all your hard work.”
I flicked my hand and sent the file back.
“You can ignore it all you want. The Demon Kings will still show up according to *your* schedule.”
“Lilith, look at your sister. She doesn’t even bother with ‘sir’ or ‘your highness’ anymore. I feel so disrespected.”
“What’s that got to do with me.”
Why did it feel like the two of them were ganging up on me?
3
I opened the room door. Getting out for some air sounded like a good idea.
Outside was a narrow corridor with a red carpet.
Counting my own, there were only five doors total.
Didn’t look like there was anywhere fun to go, so I decided to head downstairs to hunt for entertainment.
Who knew that just as I passed the next door, it swung open.
A tall, handsome guy stepped out.
For some reason—maybe same-gender repulsion, or maybe it was just his height and pretty-boy styling—I found him instantly annoying.
He was looking right at me too.
Don’t tell me I annoyed him on sight as well.
“What are you staring at?” The tall guy snapped, zero politeness.
“Not you. Just someone I know.”
“Who’s ‘someone you know’? We don’t just ‘know’ people casually.”
His tone was dripping with arrogance.
Guy probably held a pretty decent position somewhere.
“Her. Our big celebrity. Long time no see.”
I leaned to look past his shoulder.
The owner of this room really was the current it-girl of the campus music scene—Situ Liyao.
Sitting on the sofa, she thought to herself: It’s only been a few weeks. Does that really count as “long time”?
“This is a flight to The Demon Realm. You’re going too?” Situ Liyao asked curiously.
“If you can go, why can’t I?
We Qins have our roots in The Demon Realm.
I can go back to honor my ancestors… or just for a vacation.”
“If you’re going to chat, why block the doorway? Come in.”
“Ha! With a giant door guardian like you standing there, I’ll pass.
You come out if you want to talk.”
“Hey, what gives you the right to tell our young lady to come out? Who do you think you are?”
The guy jabbed a finger hard into my chest.
“Move, Situ Nanfu.”
Situ Liyao was already standing behind him.
His tall frame loomed in front of her like a mountain.
“Simple. Because *she* wants to.”
