Chapter 17: Kneeling Again?
update icon Updated at 2023/7/24 14:10:12

After being threatened, the captured little Fiend agreed to take us to its leader. After walking for about ten minutes, we encountered the group that had tried to attack me a few days ago, the one led by four large Fiends.

When their leader saw our large group approaching, he hesitated for a moment and then called his companions to prepare for defense.

"Don't be nervous, I'm not here to fight," I stepped out from behind the large Fiend and stood between the two groups. While the other side looked puzzled, I pointed to the upper entrance embedded in the mountain wall not far away, "You all see it, that's our destination. But it's occupied by a group of despicable guys who definitely want to kill us, devour our souls and flesh. I wanted to rush up there, but their numbers are too great. It would be suicide if we rely on just ourselves. I believe there are other blocked demons nearby. Now, I want to organize everyone together, combine our strength, and charge up together! Are you willing to join?"

"...," the leading large Fiend scratched his head, looked at me, and then glanced at the demons guarding the stairs. He said with a muffled voice, "Why am I not leading you?"

Me: "..."

Idiot, do you have the brains for that!

I really wanted to say this for the sake of the overall situation, but I held it in.

"Why?" I waved my hand, making the foolish demons on the other side notice my subordinates behind me, "Because my fist is bigger than yours!"

"We won't know until we fight!"

"Oh, so you mean we have to fight?"

"..."

Silence. The large Fiend looked at me, then looked at the upper entrance guarded by numerous demons, and seemed hesitant.

Actually, I didn't want to fight either. If we really fought here, even if I won, it would be a Pyrrhic victory. Without my subordinates, how could I enter the upper entrance? You should know that the tide of blood sea will be here in three days.

In order to recover more demons, I had to show a strong attitude. If I wavered here and accepted someone else's leadership, I couldn't imagine whether these muscle-headed guys would start fighting among themselves after we united.

So I must take the leadership after the union.

The large Fiend hesitated. It seemed like it wanted to defeat me, but it also knew that if it fought me here, it would be doomed. Even if it defeated me, it would lose the power to pass through the upper entrance.

Just as we stood at a stalemate, a commanding voice came from above, sounding very domineering, "Since you can't decide, let me decide."

We all turned our heads and saw a one-eyed large Fiend standing alone on top of a nearby rocky slope. With a light breeze and its left eye blind, it appeared quite awe-inspiring.

When the one-eyed large Fiend saw everyone's gaze focused on it, it struck an excited pose of "I have power," and with a kick, it jumped off the rocky slope, but slipped when it landed...

"Bang!"

The one-eyed large Fiend fell embarrassingly to the ground and got up, pretending to cough a few times, "Uh, sorry, I can't see with my left eye. I didn't see that rock there, I thought it was flat ground."

Everyone: "..."

This guy is really ridiculous.

"Who are you?"

This strange entrance really makes a bizarre entrance, what kind of person is this in Purgatory?

"Me? Haha, just call me One-Eye," the one-eyed large Fiend pointed to itself with its thumb and said grandly, "I'm looking for people to unite. Let's join forces for a better future! I will lead you to victory... Hahaha..."

What kind of cheesy lines are these? Is this guy raised on hot-blooded manga... Wait, there's no internet in Purgatory, damn it!

The four large Fiends who were opposing me sneered, "Huh? Unite? Just you?"

"Not at all, I have people behind me."

"Where are they?"

"They're behind me..." The one-eyed large Fiend turned around and there wasn't a single person behind it. It froze for a moment, then shouted at the top of its lungs, "Come out, all of you, you bunch of blind fools!"

"Boss, you ordered us not to come out without receiving a command." A slightly thinner large Fiend came with a large group of demons from behind the rocky slope. This slightly thinner large Fiend was missing a little finger on its left hand. The demon group brought by Nine-Fingered Fiend was very large, with at least a hundred units. There were eight Big Fiends alone, plus Cyclops and Nine-Fingered for a total of ten.

Cyclops slapped Nine-Fingered on the head angrily, "I told you to wait for orders, why were you so obedient now? Why weren't you this obedient usually?"

"Boss, I've always been obedient."

"Obedient? Then if I tell you to eat shit, will you eat it?"

"...Boss, you're too harsh." Nine-Fingered's face changed dramatically from his earlier defiance, "Eat... I just ate it yesterday..."

Me: "..."

Damn, are they doing a comedy routine?

Cyclops and Nine-Fingered made a shocking entrance, but I wasn't affected at all. Maybe these two were here to tell jokes, but when I saw the hundreds of demons behind them, I started feeling a bit uneasy.

"Hmm, now that my people are all here, let's continue our previous topic," Cyclops said.

Cyclops glanced at me and the four-person group and was about to speak when Nine-Fingered suddenly nudged him with his shoulder and gestured towards me with his eyes. "Boss, she's a beauty!"

"I know," Cyclops stared fiercely at Nine-Fingered, pretending not to hear.

But pretending won't help, and what's with the beauty... damn, what's happening to me? Why did all the demons look at me with strange eyes?

Nine-Fingered's voice wasn't quiet, and even the others heard him discussing me with Cyclops. Big One, Two, and Three, as well as Little Two and Three, immediately stepped forward and surrounded me tightly. As for Little Four and Five... they wanted to stand in front too, but after comparing themselves to Cyclops and the others, they ultimately chose to protect me.

Cyclops smirked at me, thinking he looked cool but actually looking extremely sinister in my eyes. "Don't be nervous, even though you're beautiful, what's more important now is to enter the upper entrance..."

"Beautiful my ass! Can't you see, I'm handsome! Take a good look, I'm a man, not a woman!"

I was really angry. Why did the guys in Purgatory always see me as a female demon, and on top of that, someone of the nation-toppling type! I'm a man, okay? I'm the type who can punch people with my fist and run horses on my arm. I just temporarily lost a certain something. Can you guarantee that I won't have it for the rest of my life?

"Yeah, take a good look, take a really good look," Cyclops scanned me from head to toe as if he had X-ray vision, making my hair stand on end.

Nine-Fingered whispered in Cyclops' ear, "Boss, didn't you say it's not the right time yet?"

"I know, no need for your reminders," Cyclops slapped Nine-Fingered on the head again, then calmly said, "Let's continue discussing the coalition."

"I think our boss should lead everyone. Our boss is powerful and can definitely lead us to a glorious future!" Just as Cyclops was about to speak, Nine-Fingered stepped out first, enthusiastically supporting him. After speaking, he even fawned over to ask Cyclops, "Boss, am I right?"

Cyclops nodded his head, "Yes, good job,"

"Good job!" Nine-Fingered led the applause, and the demons behind him also sporadically clapped their hands, even though most of them didn't understand the meaning of applause...

"Thank you, thank you all for your support. Thank you," Cyclops boasted to his subordinates, his head held high, looking very proud of himself.

Damn, they really are doing a comedy skit.

Nine-Fingered flattered Cyclops shamelessly, before remembering there was still business to discuss. "So, does everyone agree with our boss leading the attack on the upper entrance?"

I was exhausted from all the nonsense.

"Why can't we lead?" The four-person group spoke up, unwilling to lose their leadership status.

Cyclops disdainfully glanced at the four-person group but didn't say anything.

Nine-Fingered, who had been playing the clown earlier, coldly snorted, "With our numbers, if you don't listen, we will kill you."

After saying that, he made a fierce slashing motion across his neck.

The four-person group fell silent. Although they were still a bit resentful, they didn't seem to plan on rebelling anymore.

"If you guys are going to lead, I'm quitting." The farce had gone on long enough, and now we needed to discuss survival seriously. We had wasted so much time fooling around. We could have used that time to find new allies instead.

"Quit? Beautiful lady, may I ask why you want to quit? What do you plan to do after quitting?""Are you kidding me? I told you, I'm a man, not a girl!"

Seeing that I was furious, the one-eyed person immediately changed his tone, "Alright, alright, this beautiful...man, may I ask what you plan to do after leaving?"

I was fuming with anger, but I had to ignore the prefix "beautiful." If it weren't for the other party's overwhelming power, I really wanted to kill it.

"I'll go around nearby and look for other teams to join."

"But the strongest power around here belongs to me. If I recruit my subordinates, it will definitely be faster than you."

I said firmly, "Then let's go to a farther place."

"Beautiful...man, why don't you want to join forces with us? I'm very strong and can protect you. What's wrong with being led by me? Isn't it our instinct to attach ourselves to the strong?"

"Because you guys have no brains, no brains!" I was truly infuriated and pointed to my head, saying loudly, "At times like this, strength alone is not enough. You need to have brains too! There are at least hundreds of powerful Fiends guarding the entrance stairs, not to mention the countless small Fiends. If you were in charge, you would definitely rush up with your subordinates like a swarm. Have you ever thought about keeping some reserves? Do you know what it means to sustain a war with war? Do you understand that there might be a second-level Fiend leader or even a third-level demon hidden among the enemies?"

After reincarnating into the purgatory, this was the first time I had released my anger so fiercely. Although the time since reincarnation wasn't long, I really couldn't adapt to the purgatory's blood-red and viscous sea. Every time I saw that, my throat would itch and I wanted to spit something out, but couldn't.

I endured a group of idiots climbing around me, tolerating their silly actions in front of me, and watching countless scenes of fellow creatures killing each other every day. The way these idiots looked at me was really strange, and I had had enough. I wanted to return to the surface, back to the world of the Western Nations! No matter what, I had to go back!

If these idiots tried to stop me, I would kill them. Even if I died, I would die on human land!

"Beautiful, dazzling, noble, persistent, firm, fearless, holy..." Faced with my explosive anger, the one-eyed person suddenly knelt down, leaving his tear-filled right eye staring at me, not blinking once. In his eyes, I seemed to radiate a bright light.

"Hey, hey! What's wrong with you? Why are you kneeling? I was just angry at you a moment ago. Why are you kneeling? What's going on? Are you a masochist or something?"

"I...I...I've fallen for you..." The one-eyed person spoke like he was on a pilgrimage, kneeling at my feet. "You are so flawless. I...I...please, no matter what, please accept me as your servant..."

Me: "..."

Damn it, even though it should be a happy thing to have someone pledge allegiance to me, why do I feel like I just swallowed a hundred flies?
