At noon, Dean Loran informed me that I could move into my own dormitory.
"For now, you only have a bed and a storage cabinet as furniture, so please bear with it," she said.
"Well, that's already quite good." I looked up at the newly constructed treehouse and said, "Thank you very much!"
"There are some basic living supplies in the cabinet. If there is anything else you need, let me know. Also, there are some materials and tools behind the house. You can use them to make your own clothes and food," she explained.
"Things that I need..." I thought carefully.
"For example, a rocking horse," Loran reminded me.
"What would I do with that?" I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her. "But, Madam, I do have one request."
"What request?" she asked.
"Can I enter that small forest behind the treehouse?" I pointed to the woods.
"Yes, you can, but the female dormitory is not over there," she tilted her head and pretended to be puzzled.
"..."
"Don't be so serious!" She laughed and said, "That forest is an unused area of the academy. There are no facilities or elves living there, only wild animals. What would you do there?"
"Well, if possible, I would like to go hunting there," I scratched my head embarrassedly. "Because the meals given by the academy... are a bit insufficient for me."
"That's true, the rationed food is based on the standards for humans and elves, so it may not be enough for you," Dean Loran nodded. "If that's the case, you can let me know, and I will increase your ration over there."
"No, it's okay. I understand that fixed ration. If prisoners of war like me were given too much, it could cause dissatisfaction. Also, it's not just about quantity. Look at your meals, they are all vegetarian. Although the taste is not bad, it's a bit..." I hesitated to say.
"Oh, I remember now!" Dean Loran suddenly realized. "As an orc, you primarily eat meat."
"Yes, so if possible, I would like to hunt and cook for myself here."
"In that case, I can approve it."
"Really? I'm so happy!" I exclaimed. "I thought I would be rejected since I heard that elves strictly prohibit killing."
"That's a misunderstanding from the outside world. We only discourage meaningless killing. We cherish nature, but hunting is also part of nature. In fact, there are elves who also go hunting. We mostly eat vegetarian food just because our sense of smell and taste is a bit different from other races. Meat doesn't have a special appeal to us," Loran explained.
"I see."
It seems that elves are also misunderstood by other races.
"You don't need to go to class this afternoon. Take some time to organize your room."
"Is that okay?"
After all, I was already struggling to keep up with the education in this academy.
"It's alright. Remember, your ultimate goal for coming here is to change your perspective, not to actually graduate from here." Loran shrugged. "Keep in mind that it takes a full thirty years from enrollment to graduation at our academy."
"That's too long!" I imagined myself in my twilight years, sitting among a group of elves, listening to lectures.
"That's why you don't have to worry too much about your studies here. Alright, let's not talk about that now. Go in and take a look at your new home," Loran said.
"Okay."
I walked over and opened the door, revealing a typical single-room dormitory. There were windows on all three sides, providing good lighting and ventilation. However, there was only a bed and a cabinet inside, making the room look a bit empty.
If there were tools behind the house, I could gather some wood and make a set of tables and chairs to put here.
Learning from the previous lesson of either kicking the threshold or nearly hitting my head, I intentionally lowered my head when I stepped in this time.
This action made me notice something that suddenly appeared on the floor behind the door.
I bent down and picked up the object. "A letter?"
It was a pink envelope with a faint fragrance.
