Chapter 8: The Amusing Grandfather and Grandson
update icon Updated at 2023/6/24 4:10:12

The sound of ticking echoed in Brey's ears.

A flash of light appeared in front of Brey.

It was a dazzling light, and Brey felt a surge of vitality from it.

Yes, a pulsating vitality.

The flash seemed as if it could be touched just by reaching out.

Brey instinctively stretched out his hand, wanting to touch the light.

It seemed as if something was telling Brey that as long as he touched the light, he would survive.

—"Survive?"

—"Ah, so I'm already on the verge of death due to excessive blood loss?"

All it took was a touch of his fingertip, and Brey's pulsating vitality could flow into his body.

But just as Brey's fingertip was getting closer to the light, Barlosa's last warning sounded.

—"Never, never touch it."

---

"Ahhhh!"

Brey suddenly sat up.

He covered his head in pain, realizing that he had just been dreaming.

But he had completely forgotten the dream he just had.

What on earth had he dreamt of?

A nightmare…

"Ahhhh! He's awake! Grandpa! He woke up!"

"Ahhhh! Yes!!! Laris!! He's awake!!!"

A pair of grandparents raised their palms together, cheering and jumping.

"…" Brey was silent.

"Grandpa! Grandpa! Did he lose his memory from the fall?" A black-haired girl with fox ears said in terror.

"Laris!!! Laris!!! He might have lost his memory!!!" A short old man with fox ears said in terror.

"Ahhh!!! What do we do?!"

"Quick! Knock him out again!"

As she spoke, the girl had already picked up a wooden mallet, trembling as she approached Brey.

"Wait a minute!!!!!!!!!" Brey suddenly stretched out his hand, stopping the girl's violence.

"I'm not stupid."

"Grandpa! Grandpa! He says he's not stupid!!!" Laris immediately threw away the mallet and cheered.

"Laris! Laris! Then he might be fine!"

Brey didn't have the energy to complain about the odd pair of beastmen grandparents.

Yes, beast people.

Although Karplus had the largest population of humans, beast people and elves were the other two large populations.

They were the so-called mainstream races.

Each race had many branches, for example, humans could be barbarians or imperial people, elves could be wood elves or snow elves, etc.

Among them, the beast races had more branches, such as the fox people in front of him.

So seeing beast people didn't surprise Brey at all.

"May I ask, where is this place?"

"Laris knows!! This is Clinton!!!! It's a village on the outskirts of Clinton!"

"That's quite a ride..." Brey muttered a few words.

Laris's ears twitched.

"What ride?"

"…"

Such good ears!

"Laris! Laris! It's wrong to ask people's privacy casually!"

"Grandpa! Grandpa! Laris knows!"

This girl could be cute, but could you please stop, you white-haired old man with such cuteness!

Fortunately, Laris's grandfather was short, so it didn't give Brey too much of a sense of incongruity.

If a stooping old man was acting like this, Brey would have chosen to pass out again.

"Thank you very much, anyway." Brey got up from the bed and bowed deeply.

"Grandpa! Grandpa!! He's paying his respects!!!"

"Laris! Laris!! What should we do?!!"

"Grandpa! Grandpa!!! Laris doesn't know!!!"

""Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" The two screamed in confusion.

Though it was rude to say so to the people who had saved him, truly-

They were too loud.

Brey searched his body and found he had nothing to offer as a token of gratitude for the pair of grandparents.

"I'm sorry, I don't have anything to offer you as thanks."

"It's okay, right! Grandpa!""It's alright! Laris!"

"You see, even Grandpa says it's okay! Hmm!! Laris thinks it's okay too!!!"

The fox clan grandfather and grandson didn't mind at all.

Isn't it normal to save someone in danger?

"When you see someone in trouble in the future, just save them!"

Laris's grandfather's words made Brey's breath hitch.

Not long ago, he had once turned a blind eye to countless dying people.

Although they were beyond rescue, Brey still felt guilty.

"Just be a good person!!!!!" The grandfather and grandson laughed, their palms meeting.

"…" Brey didn't answer.

"Well, if there's a chance, I'll definitely come back to visit you."

Brey took a deep breath.

"Thank you!" Brey thanked them again.

"My name is Brey, Brey Kras."

"I'm Laris Wind."

"I'm Ural Wind."

"I'll remember your names." Brey repeated the two names several times in his mind.

"Then I'll take my leave. It wouldn't be good to continue bothering you."

Having said that, Brey opened the door and left.

"Grandpa! Grandpa! He's gone!!!!!"

"Laris! Laris!! Does he know the way!!!"

"Grandpa!! Grandpa!! It's all woods around here!!!!!"

"Laris! Laris!! This is terrible!!!!!!"

""He's going to get lost like this!!!!!!""

"Peng!!!!!!!"

Just when the grandfather and grandson were yelling in horror, the door was pushed open again.

"Excuse me, I don't know how to get to Clinton Town?"

Brey awkwardly stuck his head out and asked the two.

At first, Brey almost walked away when he suddenly remembered that he didn't know the way.

If he just left like that, when he came to his senses, he would probably be lost in the woods.

If he's lucky, he might find his way out, but if not, he would starve to death in the woods.

"Blind dead fish eye big brother, go south!"

"Blind dead fish eye young man, go south!"

"…" Brey almost spat out old blood.

"Thank you…" After that, Brey closed the door and set off on his journey.

"Grandpa! Grandpa! We've done so many good deeds again!!!"

"Laris! Laris!!!!!! We are good people!!!"

""Super super super good people!!!!!!"" The grandfather and grandson's palms met, and they jumped with joy.
