A Day of Kokoa
update icon Updated at 2023/6/23 14:10:12

In the early morning, the sun shone on the streets of Nierstan, and the quiet streets gradually became lively. At this time of rejuvenation, everything seemed to be thriving.

I was having breakfast at a window seat of the Adventure Guild and gazing at the view outside when someone suddenly patted my shoulder from behind.

"Kokoa, what are you looking at? You seem to be lost in thought."

The girl before me is Norlisa, a novice adventurer and one of my regular customers. "Nothing in particular. Are you here for a buff? Wait a moment and I'll get my priest staff."

Retrieving my staff from the wall, I chanted the appropriate spells: Holy Protection, Elves' Guard, Divine Barrier, Giant's Strength, Luck's Blessing, and Perception Enhancement. One by one, colorful blessings lit up on Norlisa's body, providing her with a sense of peace.

"All done. Be extra careful on your adventure."

"Thanks, Kokoa! I'm heading out now!"

Norlisa thanked me and hurried off. "Young people really have a lot of energy. It's time for me to check out my tasks for today."

After cleaning up, I checked the panel on the guild's front desk. Repair the city wall? Transport materials? I didn't feel like doing these physically demanding tasks today. Form a defensive line? Didn't want to burn my brain either. Let's do some battlefield reconnaissance and treat it like sightseeing.

With the task acquired, I returned home and put away my priest staff and book. I took out a legion broadsword slightly shorter than myself and fastened a Soul Crossbow loaded with arrows to my waist before heading out.

Before starting the mission, I needed to visit one more place: my maid in the residential area.

Arriving at a plain house in the residential area, I knocked quietly at the door. As expected, there was no response. I went around to the window and used a hidden key to unlock the door.

I tiptoed upstairs and found a bedroom door ajar. Inside was a young girl sleeping soundly on the bed, just as I anticipated.

Her name was Void Fantasy, a newly-acquainted maid who often teamed up with me for missions after we hit it off in a conversation.

Leaning over her, I couldn't help but tease her as I watched her sleeping peacefully. I pinched her nose, causing her to wrinkle her brow and struggle restlessly in her sleep. I whispered into her ear:

"Wake up, lazybones! The sun is about to shine on your butt!"

At the sound of my voice, the girl jolted upright, looked around in confusion, and focused on me, still laughing beside her bed.

"Kokoa, why'd you come so early? I just had a nightmare about drowning!"

"Haha, I'm sure you were just not sleeping well. Let's go - here's today's assignment. Get ready and let's get moving."

I helped Void Fantasy gather her belongings and put on a beautiful maid outfit, then we both had breakfast before heading to the mission location.

Upon arriving at the battlefield, Void and I carefully reconnoitred the enemy's movements, always mindful of the potential for danger.

Suddenly, I heard a rustling ahead and immediately stopped in my tracks. I gestured to Void with my eyes and we hid together in a nearby bush.

As expected, a squad of Orc soldiers passed by our location. Thrilled by the valuable information they'd provided, we carefully trailed the soldiers.

After a somewhat boring few hours of tracking, we finally reached the Orcs' camp. We found a spot on a nearby hill where we had an unobstructed view of the area.

"Void, quickly sketch the map of this place - we're going to hit the jackpot!"

"Leave it to me!"

Just as Void finished drawing the map and we prepared to head back, an Orc sentry seemed to sense something and looked in our direction before sounding the alarm. The alerted Orc soldiers quickly gathered and began rushing towards us."Not good, we must have been detected. We need to leave quickly."

At that moment, a cluster of black dots flew towards our location. Upon closer inspection, we were shocked to find out that it was a rain of arrows. Without hesitation, I drew the Legion Broad Sword from behind me and placed it in front of the void, using the wide surface of the sword to block most of the arrows. However, a few missed and grazed past my hands and feet.

"Coco, are you alright? You're bleeding."

"I'm fine, don't forget that I'm a priest. Let's clean up quickly and leave. Healing spell!"

A green light shone, instantly healing the damage we had just taken. We then escaped with the cleaned-up void.

Although the Orc soldiers assembled quickly, speed was never their forte. Coincidentally, both Void and I were agile, allowing us to successfully bring the intelligence back to the guild, earning a hefty reward and even taking some time to use the Soul Hunting Crossbow to kill a few Orc soldiers chasing after us.

After receiving the rewards, just as I was about to leave the guild, a somewhat timid voice stopped me.

"Co... Coco, can you please give me a buff? I... I want to go on an adventure in the forest."

Turning around, I saw a small, cute-looking girl. I recognized her name - Floating. She had recently become a priest, and I had a deep impression of her during her initiation ceremony at the temple, where I happened to be working as a staff member.

"Sure, no problem. Just be careful of the tree holes on your way to the forest adventure, and don't fall in."

"Th... Thank you, senior!"

After giving blessings to this lovely new priest, I left the guild, treated myself to a big meal, and then returned home to tidy up my loot and schedule.

Today was another fruitful day. I wonder how my little sister is doing. I'll find some time to visit her when I'm free. She'll be surprised to know that I have the ability to explore the third floor of the mine. However, I should continue to take on tasks with Void tomorrow.

Feeling sleepy, I took a bath, changed into my pajamas, and lay on the bed. I soon fell asleep, a night without dreams.
