Chapter 26

Sunday, the mild sunshine made me want to sleep in. I didn't sleep well last night, spending the night between pain and tossing and turning. But regardless, there's nothing special going on today, so let's just go and take care of that important matter.

Around 9 o'clock in the morning, I stepped out of the door. Lack of sleep really takes a toll on my energy, constant yawning. "Huh?" Feeling absent-minded, I entered Aunt Zheng's managed apartment complex, and she happened to see me. I felt a bit embarrassed.

"Good morning, Aunt Zheng," I greeted her somewhat stiffly.

"Good morning. By the way, I don't know how to address you," Aunt Zheng smiled.

"I'm called Xu Youjie. You can address me like that."

"Youjie~ I remember. This name seems to have a meaning of excellence, doesn't it?"

"Not really..." At least I don't think my name has any special significance.

"Really? I think it does. Naming someone is an art in itself," Aunt Zheng seemed to have done some research on this topic, as can be seen from her enthusiastic eyes.

"Is that so?" I wasn't particularly interested in this topic. After all, as long as the name sounds good, the meaning behind it might not be that important.

"Of course, for example, some people have names like Jichen, Yuanjun, Fuqiang, and they all have good meanings."

"Seems like it." What should I do? I'm not really interested in this kind of topic, but it's not appropriate to be too direct. I started to feel a bit distressed.

"Oh, it seems like I got carried away. Youjie came here to find An Lisi, right?"

Aunt Zheng finally didn't continue on, and I breathed a sigh of relief and nodded.

"Do you still need me to take you there?"

"No... it's not necessary. You seem busy as well," Aunt Zheng seemed to be watering the flowers she raised, judging from the watering can in her hand.

"Ah... I'm almost done, just wait for me a little while," Aunt Zheng seemed to want to speed up her task and finish watering the flowers.

"I can manage on my own, and your apartment complex isn't the kind that's complicated and makes people lose their sense of direction. Plus, it's just on the third floor. I remember the door number clearly."

I declined Aunt Zheng's kindness.

"Alright then, go on by yourself. If you encounter any difficulties, come find me."

"Okay..." I nodded, then went up to the third floor of the old apartment building. Aunt Zheng is truly a kind-hearted person. I praised her while ascending the stairs, and finally arrived at the rented room where An Lisi lives.

Yesterday, when I was struggling with that guy, An Lisi took the opportunity to escape. Although her escape helped me a lot, I still couldn't understand why she would do such a thing. Could it be... I faintly sensed something. Although I optimistically thought that maybe she did it just to pay the rent, I felt that this explanation was not convincing at all. So, other than buying "Du Pin," I don't think there could be any other reasons.

When did she start using drugs, and why is she living alone? Where are her parents? Why haven't they shown up at all? These doubts make my head ache, and I can't figure them out no matter how hard I try. So, the only way is probably to communicate with her personally, and naturally, these doubts will be resolved.

"An Lisi, student," I called out while knocking on the door, but I didn't hear any response. Could she not be inside? But I heard the sound of something being knocked over inside the room, so I dismissed this suspicion.

"Um...you're in there, right?" I said with a somewhat uncertain tone, but after a few minutes, I still didn't hear any response. It's clear that An Lisi is in the room from the noise just now, but why isn't she replying? I couldn't understand.

"In fact, I am the homeroom teacher of Class E, and all the students and I hope that you can continue to come back to school."

"Don't bother wasting your effort..." A weak voice came from the room. Although it still seemed uncooperative, at least it was a response.

"An Lisi, do you really plan to stay holed up inside and become a useless person?"

"Even if I become a useless person, it has nothing to do with anyone," I intended to use provocative words, but it only made An Lisi's attitude even colder.

"Seems like it, but what about your caring teacher and your parents who have high hopes for you? Are you living up to their expectations?"

"It has nothing to do with me," An Lisi said coldly.

"What happened?" I tried to get her to open up.

"I don't need to explain anything to you. Can you please leave me alone?" An Lisi urged impatiently.

"I came here for a purpose, and I won't leave until I accomplish it," I said firmly.

"..." An Lisi fell silent.

"I actually hope you can open the door and we can talk. It's not just about this matter. Do you remember what happened yesterday?"

An Lisi didn't respond, but I heard her seemingly knocking something and making a sound.

"That thing is really dangerous. I hope you..."

"Please stay away from my room..."

"An Lisi, please listen to me..."

"Stay away from my room!!!" An Lisi shouted hoarsely. It seemed like we couldn't continue the conversation anymore. After all, she had given me such a serious warning. Someone from the neighboring room seemed to have walked out. It seemed that the commotion here had caught someone's attention. Standing here, I didn't know what others would think I had done wrong. So, I was forced to leave. I went downstairs, feeling frustrated.

"Is it over? Did An Lisi agree to go back to school?" Aunt Zheng asked concernedly.

"She... didn't agree," I said somewhat helplessly.

"You seem to have that expression, but don't be discouraged. Keep communicating with her, and she will open up and go back to school," Aunt Zheng encouraged me.

"I hope so," I could only hope for such an outcome, even though the future seemed bleak.

"Are you going back?"

"Yes, I'll come again tomorrow."

"Then, good luck. Maybe An Lisi will come to her senses tonight, and tomorrow it will be resolved," Aunt Zheng said.

"That would be great. Thank you, Aunt Zheng. I'm going back," I thanked Aunt Zheng and returned home. The rest of Sunday was spent in a daze, wasting this precious day of rest. But nothing could be done. I could only try my best tomorrow. This was my conclusion as I was about to go to sleep on Sunday night.

Monday came, and it was time to go back to school again. After the holidays, it felt like I hadn't adjusted yet, and I couldn't help but feel a little sleepy. After struggling through a whole day of classes, I went to An Lisi's door as usual after school. Su Yuqian explained that she couldn't go home together recently due to some matters, although she didn't ask what the specific matters were. She really helped me a lot. If she had asked, I would have been very troubled. Anyway, I was ready to communicate with An Lisi like this for a whole week. Today was the first day.

"An Lisi, are you in the room? I have something to say to you. Can I come in?"

I gently knocked on the door while speaking, but there was still no response.

"Maybe I was a bit rude yesterday, but I didn't mean it that way. If it made you unhappy, then I can only say sorry," I apologized sincerely, but An Lisi still ignored me. It seemed that she was still angry from yesterday. After spending about half an hour without any response from her, I had to leave.

"Well, I'll come find you again tomorrow," I said and left.

Then it was Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I gave up the opportunity to play and came to try to persuade An Lisi to open the door or even find a place to talk privately. But these thoughts were ignored. When I thought about what I had done in the past few days, I felt inexplicably upset. Then it was Monday again, but this time I didn't go to find An Lisi. Instead, I returned home with a depressed spirit. Even though my mom cooked my favorite dish, I had no appetite. After eating a little bit, I went into the bedroom and lay on the bed, using my phone to search for "xidu". It introduced many types of "du pin", and when I looked at its harm, I was shocked and horrified. Although I had seen columns about it in textbooks and knew about its dangers, seeing photos of people who had become thin, pale, and deformed after using it, looking nothing like humans, was a first for me. Even though the photos were from the internet, they still had a significant impact.

Because of its toxicity, many people seem to end up on the path of illegal activities, and the number of people harmed is countless. It is truly terrifying. However, when I saw that the treatment was to go to a drug rehabilitation hospital, I had an idea in my mind, which was to report to the police. It seemed that police intervention could force An Lisi to undergo compulsory drug rehabilitation. As I impatiently flipped open my phone to dial the emergency number, I hesitated. I wondered what consequences my actions would bring. Perhaps for me, I would achieve the goal of helping An Lisi overcome her addiction, but for An Lisi, it might become a stain on her life. This stain might affect her future. It's shocking to think that a high school student is experiencing this. No one would allow such a thing to continue, right? Of course, the longer it is dragged out, the more dangerous it becomes.

"Ahhh..." I held my head in despair. Clearly, this matter has little to do with me. In fact, I don't really need to get involved. But... I still can't ignore it. For this reason, on Monday night, I couldn't sleep well because of this worry.

On Tuesday, I went to school as usual. Because of the lack of sleep, I still felt incredibly tired. However, when it came to my mood, it was still clouded with gloom.
