Chapter 25: Wish
update icon Updated at 2025/9/1 8:10:12

Here is a dark space, where nothing exists except darkness.

After some time, a beam of light appeared in the darkness. The light brought hope. Soon, more and more light emerged, dispelling all the darkness.

As the stream of consciousness returned to her mind, a life named Mio revived.

When she opened her eyes, the first thing Mio saw was a small girl smiling at her. Not far behind the girl was a familiar figure, Aloof. Mio immediately recognized her.

But before she could feel happy, she fell into confusion.

If she remembered correctly, she was killed by the Source Manipulator, right?

Back then, under the breath of the monstrous Source Manipulator, everything went dark, and she didn't know what happened next. But when she regained consciousness, besides Aloof, there was only one unfamiliar person.

Thinking of this, Mio suddenly thought of Green, and fell into sadness.

She looked around and indeed couldn't see Green, but she could see the golden beast hovering in the sky. Strangely, it seemed to fear something and didn't dare to approach.

The Death God looked at Mio and nodded in satisfaction at the successful revival of Mio.

"It seems there is nothing abnormal."

Upon hearing the Death God's words, Mio once again focused her attention on herself. The more she looked, the more she felt that the Death God's appearance seemed familiar. Just when she was puzzled, a figure suddenly appeared in her mind.

Mio immediately showed a look of realization and confirmed, "You are the Death God... sir?"

"That's right. I accepted your wish before, and now I have appeared here to fulfill that promise. However, because your wish has a certain delay compared to others, I am a bit late. I apologize."

"..."

Mio lowered her head slightly and fell into deep thought. After hearing the Death God's words, Mio calmed down for the time being. Because she had seen the resurrection of the dead before, she quickly accepted this fact. However, Mio didn't quite understand the latter half of the Death God's sentence.

"Can... Green also be revived?"

"Well..."

At this point, the Death God suddenly fell silent, and a clear hesitation appeared on his face.

Seeing this expression, Mio's heart began to feel uneasy. If Green couldn't be revived, then the act of making a wish to the Death God would be meaningless. It was an extremely simple wish, one that would make people think, "So that's how it is," after hearing it. There was nothing significant in saying it—

"I want to live happily with Green."

This was a thought that Mio had developed shortly after meeting Green. The brief encounter with Green allowed her to understand what happiness was. So, after obtaining the power to make wishes to the Death God, this sentence naturally became Mio's wish.

Mio's wish was not complicated, it was as simple as a sentence. However, on the surface, it seemed simple, but in reality, it was an extremely difficult wish to fulfill. This wish was described in a very vague manner and had many uncertainties, but the Death God eventually agreed.

Since then, Mio had always believed that she was very happy. She believed that until recently.

"I'm sorry. I can't be sure if Green can be revived because I found out from the Supreme Being that Green doesn't actually belong to this world. I can't revive him like the creatures of this world. But don't worry, I will do my best to communicate with that existence, and there will definitely be a way to revive Green."

The tone of the Reaper was no longer high and mighty as it was when they first met. It sounded very sincere and had a solemn expression.

Not far away, Aloof could naturally hear their conversation. Like Mio, her initially hopeful eyes dimmed after the Reaper spoke.

At this moment, uncertainty was equivalent to impossibility.

At this moment, the Reaper took a few steps forward, bypassing Mio's body and facing the colossal beast, the Source User, in the sky.

"Source User, you have already reclaimed the power of the Source. It is no longer necessary for you to continue opposing them, is it? If you still insist, then you will be treated as an obstacle to be eliminated."

The voice was not loud, but it clearly reached the ears of the Source User. After hearing the Reaper's words, the golden beast in the sky showed obvious hesitation, as if it still had some lingering worries.

Indeed, as the Reaper had said, it had already reclaimed the necessary power of the Source. The divine beings had fallen, and the occupation of Green had also been revoked. There was indeed no need to continue opposing the Reaper for the sake of eliminating Mio. Moreover, even if the World Origin personally descended to deal with the Reaper, it might not necessarily be able to defeat her.

The Reaper herself was not powerful, but she could use the authority of the highest power to completely eradicate the power of the Source.

The air froze for a moment, making it hard to breathe.

However, after a short while, the golden beast suddenly let out a roar, and then its body stopped moving, as if frozen in mid-air. Then, starting from its head, the huge body gradually turned into golden particles and disappeared into the air. In just a few seconds, there was no trace of the golden Source User in sight.

"Good riddance."

The Reaper proudly snorted, but immediately afterwards, a worried expression appeared on her face.

The threat from the Source User was gone now, but how could she revive Green?

In the current situation, she had no way to fulfill her promise and grant Mio's wish. If that happened, she might be eliminated by the existence above before long. However, the Reaper's ability to fulfill others' wishes was something she had fought for from the highest existence, so it was unlikely that such a thing would happen.

"...Right, let's revive everyone else first."

The Reaper sighed, then made a proposal.

Upon hearing the Reaper's proposal, Aloof immediately stood up and walked over.

The trusting gaze the Reaper had just given her must mean that she was needed now.

Sure enough, the Reaper soon said:

"I can only use that power by citing Mio's wish as the reason. I can't revive anyone else. To resurrect the people killed by the Source User, we can only rely on your power, Aloof Farcist. You are the inheritor of the Life Goddess, and you possess that ability."

The Reaper looked at Aloof solemnly, without a hint of mockery in her eyes. It was clear that she wasn't lying. In this situation, unless someone had a problem with their brain, they wouldn't make such a boring joke. In other words...

"Am I really... the Life Goddess?"

"You can say that. The Source User wanted to attack you earlier because of this, but it has already gained enough power to retreat obediently. Otherwise, I would have had to rely on Mio as an intermediary to fight it off."

The Reaper stated the facts in a calm tone.

She came to fulfill Mio's wish, so as long as Mio protected Aloof, she could use the excuse that Mio might be killed to intervene against the Source User. However, she also didn't want to resort to violence if a peaceful resolution was possible.

After listening to the words of the Reaper, Mio looked at Aloof with hopeful eyes.

Feeling the hope in Mio's gaze, Aloof also gathered the courage and confidence, even though she was unsure if she could revive Green or all the others who were killed by the Monster Source.

"How can I awaken the power of the Life Goddess?"

"Just believe, and that will be enough."

"Believe?"

Aloof felt confused by the cryptic response from the Reaper, but soon she realized something and showed a resolute expression. It was now the time when she was needed, and she couldn't afford to be as despondent as before. Otherwise, she would truly become a useless waste - something that Aloof dreaded the most.

Perhaps the answer was that simple - to believe in herself was enough.

In itself, it was a mysterious thing that an ordinary human could receive the inheritance of a deity. It was unbelievable, but when Aloof thought about Green's power that surpassed even the deities, she felt that it wasn't such a big deal.

Now Aloof only hoped that everyone could come back to life.

From when Green was killed just now, she had never felt so sad, yet her body did not show any signs. Aloof had thought that the inheritance of the Life Goddess in the kingdom's legends was false. However, the words of the Reaper reignited her confidence.

With a firm belief, Aloof also believed in herself.

In a trance, Aloof felt as if she was in a space of nothingness. This space had nothing, only emptiness. She couldn't see darkness, but she also couldn't see light. Her whole being entered into a strange state.

The Reaper looked at Aloof's appearance and smiled faintly. Although he couldn't directly awaken the hidden power of the deity within Aloof, giving a little guidance was no problem. If it weren't for this incident, Aloof would probably never awaken the power of the Life Goddess. She would only continue to pass on the legend to the next generations, accompanying them as a mere myth.

Aloof could also feel the external assistance. Although she had confidence, it wasn't blind self-confidence. At the same time, she was aware that this sudden strange sensation was her only chance.

In this moment, Aloof couldn't feel the existence of her body. Her consciousness seemed to be submerged in the depths of the ocean. She swam in the ocean of emptiness, not knowing how long had passed until she finally saw a hint of a different light. It was an indescribable and peculiar light, as if it was an illusion produced by her brain.

Soon, Aloof approached this light in her ocean of consciousness and finally saw the true form of the light -

"...Ah!"

Aloof suddenly opened her eyes wide, her consciousness broke through the surface of the ocean, and returned to her brain.

She recalled the scene she had just seen but found that she couldn't imagine even the slightest bit of it. However, she faintly felt that it was the key to the transformation she could attain. As long as she could remember it, she could definitely change the current situation.

Suddenly, Aloof thought of something.

The Life Goddess was said to be a very kind goddess, but the current Aloof was completely devoid of the characteristics of kindness. She didn't resemble the Life Goddess in any way. However, she knew that she wasn't the one in the legend; she must possess her own unique radiance.

Aloof firmly believed in this.

Unbeknownst to her, her body emitted a divine radiance.
