Chapter 19: An Old Acquaintance
update icon Updated at 2025/4/15 3:10:12

In the library of the castle.

On the second floor.

Several bookshelves filled with books surround a chair and a small table, and the simple decorations fill the room.

At this moment, a petite girl is sitting on the chair, her short legs dangling, holding a book in her hands as she flips through it expressionlessly. Her cat ear headband occasionally shakes magically.

"Creak!"

Suddenly, the door opens and someone walks in.

Upon seeing the petite figure on the chair, the person breathes a sigh of relief.

"Yuzuriha, it's already late now."

"Hmm? Green, you're here."

Yuzuriha looks up at Green for a moment before returning her attention to the content of the book. Green can clearly see the title of the book on the spine is "Finding a Slave as a Wife". He is instantly shocked - isn't this the same book he read online, which had only twenty thousand words about a eunuch? He wonders if the author is still alive, and it's such a coincidence to see the same titled book here.

So Green leans in to see what is written inside, but Yuzuriha's usually expressionless face suddenly turns red. She exclaims and quickly closes the book, hugging it tightly to her chest.

But her extreme reaction piques Green's curiosity.

"Yuzuriha, what are you reading? Let me see~"

"No..."

"Oh, come on, it's not something scandalous. Don't be shy, show me~"

"No!"

Suddenly, Yuzuriha yells at Green with a blush on her face, causing his evil hands to freeze in the air. The two of them stare at each other for a few seconds, and finally Green retracts his hands and sighs.

"Well then, let me guess..."

As Green says this, he walks to the table and casually glances at it, quickly noticing some strange things among the serious books. For example: "The Unserious Butter Poet", "The Tale of the Strongest Apostle Finding a Wife", "I am the Mobile Hero" - books with completely different styles.

Green can't help but be speechless. He couldn't find anyone on the first floor and decided to go upstairs, or else he would have been stopped by the "No Entry" sign hanging on the door if he hadn't felt Yuzuriha's presence.

This reminds Green of the scene when he first met Yuzuriha.

But that's not the point. The point is, why are there such books in a room with a "No Entry" sign? Isn't this the castle library? Shouldn't it contain dangerous books?

However, from the titles with different styles, it's obvious that Green's thoughts were misleading.

And Green also notices that many books are missing from the nearby bookshelves. Combined with the pile of randomly placed books on the table, he can even imagine Yuzuriha standing on the chair, struggling and stubbornly taking down the books one by one in order to find the one she's holding dear.

What kind of content could capture Yuzuriha's interest like this?!

Green can't figure it out, so he opens the books in his hands and starts reading. The more he reads, the more he realizes that these books are actually quite interesting!

But these are all popular entertainment works, and Yuzuriha doesn't seem like the type to read such books at all.

So Green stares at Yuzuriha's slightly flushed face, until she finally grumbles unhappily and he looks away.

At this moment, Green suddenly realizes that Yuzuriha has been alone guarding these forbidden books for hundreds of years, and perhaps it is because she's too bored that she has become engrossed in these books.

With this in mind, Green's gaze towards Yuzuriha gains a touch of sympathy.

He even smacks his forehead and sighs, feeling regretful.

"Green, what are you thinking?"

The displeased voice reaches Green's ears, bringing him back to reality. He then notices Yuzuriha pouting, looking at him with a not-so-happy expression.

"Um..." Green is momentarily stunned by this sight. It is the first time he has seen Yuzuriha with such an expression, and he also keenly notices that her cat ear headband trembles."Yuzuriha, didn't you say that the cat ears on your head are just hair accessories? How can they move on their own?"

"Why can't they move on their own?"

"Hair accessories shouldn't be able to move by themselves!"

"No, these were given to me by the Reaper and it's not strange for them to move on their own."

"Um..."

Green couldn't help but imagine the proud smile on the face of the Reaper loli. He couldn't believe that she would give Yuzuriha such a thing as cat ear hair accessories. But since Yuzuriha said so, it wasn't surprising that they had some special abilities.

Upon closer inspection, Green realized that Yuzuriha's hair accessories would occasionally shake in the past, but he probably ignored it subconsciously due to the environment at the time. The current environment, however, was very quiet.

"By the way, what are you doing here?"

"Reading."

"What are you reading?"

"..."

Yuzuriha's expressionless face turned slightly red again. Without needing to explain, Green already knew what Yuzuriha was reading. But he couldn't believe that Yuzuriha would read such popular literature, and most importantly, that there were books from another world even in the castle library.

When Aloof mentioned that Yuzuriha had come to the library, Green initially thought she was studying some kind of magical books.

"Alright, it's time to go back. There's a sign on the door that says 'no entry,' and it wouldn't be good if someone found us here. Let's quickly tidy up and sneak out."

As Green spoke, he wanted to put the books back into the bookcase. However, looking at the messy table full of books, he felt a headache coming on. But just as he was about to do it, Yuzuriha suddenly waved her little hand and all the books on the table magically returned to their original positions.

"That's really convenient magic..."

"Yeah, but it's actually a forbidden magic."

"Um...?"

Looking at Green's stunned expression, Yuzuriha smiled slightly, feeling a little proud. Previously, Yuzuriha unintentionally mentioned to Green that the leader of the Magic Cult probably possessed some dangerous forbidden magic, and the source of that forbidden magic was the Forbidden Book Library that Yuzuriha used to guard.

The Forbidden Book Library had been stolen by someone from the Divine Realm before, but later the reaper cut off the spatial connection between the Divine Realm and the library. It was due to the restrictions on the reaper's activities that Yuzuriha was assigned to guard the Forbidden Book Library.

So when Green heard Yuzuriha mention the forbidden magic, he was somewhat surprised. The forbidden magic was such a dangerous thing, and Yuzuriha actually used it for something like this...

But forbidden magic was simply a relatively dangerous weapon, and its usage depended on the user.

Although he didn't know why Yuzuriha had mastered these magics, Green wasn't worried at all.

After returning the books to their rightful places, Yuzuriha and Green quickly left the library.

Nothing noteworthy happened that night, but the next morning was the same as usual. It seemed that it was impossible to give Yuzuriha and Mio separate rooms, and now there was also Eurelia in the adjacent room. In the end, Aloof had no choice but to let Yuzuriha and Mio stay in his own room.

But it was still the princess's room, and even with an extra bed, it didn't feel crowded.

However, with his brother-in-law staying next door, Green couldn't help but feel a little nervous, afraid that something unexpected might happen one day.

And the old father-in-law was nowhere to be seen this morning. Eurelia just told him to relax, and Green wasn't really worried about the old father-in-law continuing to make things difficult for him. After all, they had already reached an agreement and he had quickly completed the task – although Mio had also helped a lot, it wasn't a big problem.

However, during breakfast, Green suddenly received a message from someone wanting to see him, and it was a request sent by the Adventurer's Guild.

Green thought to himself that he didn't know anyone in this place, so who would specifically look for him in Falstest?

Those old men from yesterday?

That seemed unlikely. Their matters had already been resolved, so why would they come looking for Green?

In any case, with a curious mindset, Green finished breakfast and headed to the Adventurer's Guild in the city with Mio and Aloof. As for Yuzuriha...

Early in the morning, she disappeared and went to the library. Later on, Green learned from Aloof that the second floor of the library is the king's personal space and no one else is allowed to enter. This made Green secretly complain in his heart.

Since Aloof had nothing to do today, he also came along. However, in order to avoid causing any commotion, they naturally changed into clothes that were convenient for hiding their identities.

So Green found himself surrounded by the two people wearing hats, and their movements together seemed very suspicious.

When they arrived at the adventurers' guild, before Green could ask who had specifically come to find him, he saw two familiar faces—

"Lilith? Fulber? What are you two doing... Ah, I see, it's you who came to find me, right?"

Yes, standing in front of Green were Lilith and her butler, Fulber.

At this moment, the two of them were sitting in the adventurers' guild. Their positions were still somewhat prominent, so Green immediately noticed them.

Just as Green greeted the two, he suddenly felt a chill behind him, followed by a voice filled with strong hostility.

"Darling, who is she?"

"She... she is a friend from the city of Anglia..."

"Is she the girl you used to communicate with on your phone?"

"Yeah..."

Green timidly nodded. Although Aloof was smiling at this moment, Green felt that the smile was fake, so fake that it was easy to see through. The reason was simple—the magic power gathering in Aloof's hand was enough to prove it.

"Miss, fighting is not allowed in the guild. It would be better if you restrain yourself, don't you think...?"

Fulber also noticed Aloof's unusual behavior, but because his face was partially covered by his hat, and because he and Aloof were not acquainted, he couldn't tell who Aloof was.

After hearing Fulber's words, Aloof was momentarily stunned, then immediately returned to normal.

"Sorry, I lost control for a moment."

Afterwards, the three of them sat down.

Fulber noticed that Lilith was not speaking, so he sighed inwardly and continued:

"Here's the situation. My young lady couldn't sleep because she missed you, so she rushed here as fast as she could to see you, but—"

Before Fulber could finish his sentence, Lilith suddenly shouted loudly:

"When... when did I... miss him so much that I couldn't sleep? Fulber, don't talk nonsense!!!"
