As the sun rose and the moon descended, the night of the unagi rice operation finally arrived.
Chongzong and Uesugi Yui deliberately wore dark clothes and arrived at the designated location ten minutes earlier than agreed to wait for Manranyama Souren's car.
Chongzong didn't bring anything except for his phone.
The only difference was that he wrapped a bandage around his fist today to reduce unnecessary superficial injuries.
Uesugi Yui, on the other hand, brought a lot of things.
A collapsible bow, a tube of arrows with unsharpened tips, pepper spray, a flashlight, a phone, a power bank, and more.
A pile of belongings, but not bulky.
The collapsible bow was slung on her back, the quiver hung at her waist, the pepper spray tucked into her pocket, the flashlight strapped to her arm, and the phone and power bank stored together in the other side pocket of her pants.
Rather than being bulky, it looked well-equipped and gave off a cool iron rose vibe.
In contrast, Chongzong looked like he was going for a casual walk.
"Are you mentally prepared?" (Uesugi Yui)
While waiting at the intersection for Manranyama Souren's car to appear, Uesugi Yui asked Chongzong.
"Yeah, I'm fine, Yui sister, don't worry." (Chongzong)
Chongzong answered in a relaxed manner, and he genuinely felt the same way inside, without any force.
He knew that it was actually Uesugi Yui who was forcing herself, so he wanted to lighten the mood.
"While I can't guarantee that I can win against anyone we might encounter, I can at least guarantee that I'll escape unscathed~" (Chongzong)
"And besides, I have Yui sister covering me, don't I?" (Chongzong)
Originally, Uesugi Yui only needed to be responsible for surveillance and communication, but she still insisted on bringing the bow and arrows.
Even though the arrowheads were unsharpened, if hit, it would still be quite painful.
But does Uesugi Yui have the resolve to shoot arrows at people?
Chongzong didn't ask that question aloud.
At exactly four o'clock in the morning, Manranyama Souren's car arrived at the station on time.
The car stopped for less than five seconds and then quickly drove away.
By the time it departed, Chongzong and Uesugi Yui were already seated inside.
"Both of you are very punctual, thank you so much." (Manranyama Souren)
To their surprise, the driver was not Van, but Manranyama Souren.
Van, on the other hand, sat in the passenger seat, looking uneasy and fidgeting.
Being carried by her "master" as a maid, she must be quite fearful.
"Punctuality is expected. Miss Manranyama, you are also very punctual." (Uesugi Yui)
After these two sentences, an awkward silence fell inside the car.
No one can continue this awkward chat. Van finally breaks the ice at the right time.
"These are wireless communicators for the two of you," Van says as she leans out from the passenger seat and hands the wireless communicators to Chongzong and Usami Yui.
She then proceeds to hand the stun gun to Chongzong. After that, she starts giving a detailed explanation of how to use the wireless communicators and the stun gun, making the journey to Yasaka Shrine much less awkward.
The distance is not far, and Chongzong and his group arrive near Yasaka Shrine at 4:15 in the morning, parking outside a building that Usami Yui had scouted in advance.
Usami Yui will use the telescope here to observe Yasaka Shrine, and if necessary, she will use a folding bow to cover Chongzong.
"TEST, this is Unadon Rice Bowl 3, conducting signal testing." Usami Yui announces.
"Unadon Rice Bowl 1 received," replies Chongzong.
"Unadon Rice Bowl 2 received," says Van.
"Unadon Rice Bowl 4 received," confirms Manranyama Souren.
With the confirmation that the communicators are functioning properly, Usami Yui goes upstairs alone, while Manranyama Souren stays in the car on standby.
To avoid attracting unnecessary attention, Chongzong and Van proceed on foot towards Yasaka Shrine.
At 4:25 in the morning, Operation Unadon Rice Bowl begins.
