When Araki Yukin entered Bai Yaxin's office, Bai Yaxin was sitting at his desk, flipping through documents.
In this seemingly calm state, Araki Yukin could tell from Bai Yaxin's tapping fingers on the desk that he was actually anxious and frustrated.
-- No one has reported the results of today's assassination activity by Wolf Spider to Bai Yaxin yet.
Although Bai Yaxin trusted Wolf Spider, a reliable assassin he had been using for a long time, it was the first time he hadn't received a report near the deadline.
Even though Bai Yaxin trusted Wolf Spider, it was inevitable that he would feel uneasy at this moment.
Until now, Yuhe, Araki Yukin returned to report before Wolf Spider, which increased Bai Yaxin's worries even further.
"Start reporting the situation."
Bai Yaxin threw the files in his hand onto the table, crossed his fingers on the table, and stared straight into Araki Yukin's eyes.
Facing such pressure, Araki Yukin remained calm and casually stated the result that she knew would anger Bai Yaxin.
"Wolf Spider failed the mission."
Araki Yukin stared into Bai Yaxin's eyes without avoiding the pressure from her superior.
But Bai Yaxin's gaze shifted away from Araki Yukin.
"Wolf Spider failed?"
Bai Yaxin, surprised for a moment, repeated the sentence.
He stiffened, even his thinking froze for a few seconds, as if he had turned into a plaster statue, silent, motionless, before slowly regaining his composure.
The worst-case scenario he had envisioned had happened, but since it had already happened, it was meaningless to dwell on the past. What to consider next was truly important.
"Fine, let him come back and report first."
Bai Yaxin pushed the files on the table aside, then reclined on the backrest, lost in thought.
After a few minutes passed, he realized that Yuhe hadn't left and was still standing there, looking hesitant.
"What is it? Is there anything else?"
Impatience was clearly evident in his anxious tone. Bai Yaxin was thinking about how to remedy this failed operation, whether it be through Wolf Spider or someone else.
"Wolf Spider is dead."
Araki Yukin said without a trace of emotion, straightforward and matter-of-fact. There was no hint of sadness, but this tone was more unsettling than hearing any mournful words.
For a moment, the entire office lost its color, leaving only white, gray, and black.
Bai Yaxin slowly covered his eyes with his hands, his body trembling slightly.
Then, without warning, he suddenly stood up from the chair, overturning it with one hand, and fiercely kicked the nearby bookshelf, causing the shelves and the books and files on top to crash to the ground.
"What the fuck, Wolf Spider is dead?"
"What the hell is going on?!"
"What about those two women?"
"How many did they kill, huh?"
Bai Yaxin roared, his loud voice causing Araki Yukin's ears to hurt.
"Koga is severely injured, KogaMizuo has minor abrasions and sprains," Aoki Yukin reports emotionlessly.
"I followed Koga into the hospital and performed surgery on Koga, with a more than 90% chance of death, but the results are still uncertain."
Clearly, this report does not satisfy Bai Yaxin. He raises his hand, trembling with anger, wanting to release his frustration somehow. However, his rationality still prevails, restraining him from any inappropriate actions. In the end, he simply vigorously swings his hand in the air and then puts it down.
"Who killed Wolf Spider?" he asks.
"A stranger, he perished alongside Wolf Spider," Aoki Yukin answers.
"A stranger? Find out who that person is... No, hold on, it's not important for now."
Bai Yaxin regains his composure. He lowers his head in thought and then issues a new command to Aoki Yukin.
"Go confirm the condition of that woman. It's best if she's dead. If she's alive, find a way to dispose of her. Also, make sure her daughter doesn't live through tonight."
"Understood. I will do my best," Aoki Yukin replies.
Aoki Yukin bows slightly and then leaves the office.
