NO.12 The Crimson Moon Arrives
update icon Updated at 2023/4/10 11:49:13

The National Day holiday was getting close, and the students were getting restless, just waiting to go home.

Fatty, Wen Jian, and Big Teeth were all from out of town. Their tickets were already bought; they’d leave at the end of September. Old Wang was a local, so he didn’t need to go anywhere.

Xu Fang planned to enjoy a lazy break on campus. As long as he had a computer and Wi‑Fi, it was the same anywhere.

As for Luo Xiaoming, she never went back much even on normal days, let alone now that she’d transformed.

September 28th, sunny, 23 degrees, 7:30 in the morning.

The moment she woke up, Luo Xiaoming felt a heavy, dragging pain in her lower abdomen. She didn’t feel like using the bathroom, it was just pure pain. Weakness and dizziness came with it. She frowned.

What’s going on, did I catch a chill?

“Luo Xiaoming, class time!” Big Teeth shouted.

“I don’t feel well, I’m not going…” Luo Xiaoming mumbled back.

Big Teeth shrugged, then left with Wen Jian and the others.

There were supposed to be two classes in the morning, but halfway through the second one, the teacher suddenly had something to do and dismissed them half an hour early.

The students cheered and poured out of the classroom. Since there were no classes in the afternoon, guys like Wen Jian and Fatty could go straight to an internet café and game till night. Fatty’s club had activities, so he headed there. As for Old Wang—no need to ask—he was definitely with his girlfriend again. The two of them were glued together; not only at night, they grabbed every chance in the daytime too.

These people are really busy.

Xu Fang shook his head, stretched lazily, and quietly packed up his textbooks. Then he shuffled toward the dorm like a salted fish. On the way he ordered takeout.

He could spend the afternoon lying on his bed again, sitting in front of his PC and gaming.

Mm… better write instead. Work matters too.

No way, no way, writing so much these days is wrecking my body. I can’t keep burning myself out like this.

Yesterday, to write his “on-shelf message,” Xu Fang had racked his brains and drafted several ideas. He was too excited and didn’t fall asleep until four in the morning.

He dragged himself through the whole morning’s classes. So in the afternoon, he might as well make up for that lack of sleep. Yes, decision happily made.

While he was thinking all that, Xu Fang had already reached the boys’ dorm.

He pushed open the door to Room 607 and… walked right into an awkward scene.

Luo Xiaoming had a big wad of soft tissue in each hand, wiping down along the inside of her pale thighs. There was a small puddle of blood on the floor, and a pair of men’s underwear, soaked in red, was tossed aside.

Luo Xiaoming hadn’t expected anyone to open the door at a time when no one should be around.

Her face drained of color; her whole body felt like it had frozen solid.

Why did he have to come back now of all times—and she’d forgotten to lock the door on top of it!

Shame, embarrassment, irritation, mortification… a whole jar of emotions tipped over and dumped straight into her brain.

If she had to compare it to something, it was like getting caught by your parents right in the middle of jerking off—and you’d just climaxed from the shock. So ashamed you wanted to die.

Xu Fang and Luo Xiaoming stared at each other, both stunned into statues. The air seemed to congeal, filled with the metallic smell of her blood and other weird odors.

Luo Xiaoming trembled. Her face burned red all the way down to her neck. She bit her lip, her big eyes misting over, looking like she was about to cry.

“Ah, sorry!” Xu Fang blurted, then rushed back out, pulling the door shut.

Thanks to his barely adequate sex‑ed knowledge, he understood what was happening to Luo Xiaoming and didn’t freak out at the weird bloodstain.

What gave him a headache was how to face Xiao Ming from now on. He’d probably have to endure the young lady’s endless wrath. Wen Jian’s tragic fate back then was still fresh in his mind.

How did this girl get her period not even two days after transforming? Shouldn’t it be like a month later or something?

“Xu Fang.” A soft, weak girl’s voice floated out from inside the dorm.

“Yeah?”

“Help me buy that… pad…”

“Got it.”

Xu Fang went straight down to the supermarket downstairs and swept all kinds of sanitary pad brands into his basket, buying over a dozen packs. This kind of small favor he had to do; maybe it’d cool Xiao Ming’s temper a bit.

The auntie at the register stared at him for a long time, probably wondering what he was planning to do with so many different brands of pads.

Back at Room 607’s door, facing the tightly closed door, Xu Fang sighed and knocked.

He heard the lock slide from inside; sounded like she’d locked it after he left. The door opened a crack.

Xu Fang handed the big bag of pads to Xiao Ming. She took it, then shut the door again.

Rustling sounds came from inside, and the tear of packaging being opened in the bathroom. After a long while, Luo Xiaoming opened the door, dressed neatly and expressionless, though the blush on her small face hadn’t completely faded.

The dorm was mostly cleaned up. The windows were wide open. The strange bloody smell was gone. The dirty underwear had been thrown in the trash.

Acting like nothing had happened, Xu Fang went back to his own bed.

“You saw it?” Luo Xiaoming suddenly asked.

“Yeah,” Xu Fang answered on reflex. Then he realized and it was too late to take it back. Seeing her mood getting worse, he hurried to change the topic: “Uh… want some brown sugar water?”

Luo Xiaoming pressed a hand against her lower belly. After a long moment, she replied, “Yeah.”

Xu Fang grabbed Xiao Ming’s new crystal glass cup, went to the downstairs supermarket, bought a bag of brown sugar, and made her a big hot cup.

Xiao Ming took it and sipped it slowly, little by little.

“Why’re you back so early?” she asked in a flat tone.

“The teacher had something to do, so class ended early.”

“Fatty and the others went to game?”

“Mm.”

After that, Xiao Ming fell silent again and lowered her head, continuing to drink her brown sugar water.

When the mood in the room seemed to return to normal, Xu Fang quietly let out a breath.

A little later, his takeout arrived. He brought it upstairs, ready to eat, but Xiao Ming said she was hungry and just snatched his food and started eating.

Watching how unceremonious she was, Xu Fang understood. She was doing it on purpose to mess with him. And since he felt guilty, he really couldn’t get mad. He could only order another takeout for himself.

After eating, Xiao Ming bluntly kicked him out: “Xu Fang, go hang out with Wen Jian and the others this afternoon. I want to stay in the dorm alone for a bit.”

“Why?”

She widened her eyes and pretended to be angry. “You don’t know I still have to change… change that? Haven’t you seen enough?”

“Okay, okay, I’ll go.” Xu Fang could only agree.

Seeing his helpless face, Xiao Ming kept her cool on the surface, but inside she was delighted. This guy—just scare him a little and he becomes this obedient. Way too fun.

As for being seen, she’d already stopped caring that much. Although her cheeks still burned whenever she recalled that scene, the fact she’d managed to make Xu Fang suffer had already dispelled more than half her anger.

Looks like being a girl really does come with some perks. If she were still a guy right now, Xu Fang would have no reason to spoil her like this.

*****

Afternoon.

Xu Fang found an internet café off campus with fewer people and took a quiet seat. Thinking back on what had happened in the dorm at noon, he could only chalk it up to bad luck. He was the one who saw something he shouldn’t’ve seen.

Still, it worked out. Since he couldn’t nap this afternoon, he might as well write. The Setting Panel had unlocked anyway; he could experience that magical panel a second time.

He’d already decided what to put in the panel.

Three hours later, chapter eight was done, over three thousand characters. After going on sale, his chapters were actually shorter than before. On other sites, that would probably count as pretty scummy behavior. But the readers on Horror Novel Web would forgive him, right?

Xu Fang moved the mouse to the Setting Panel and started typing.

[Room 607, K City University of Transportation, Xu Fang receives 100 million RMB.]

He hit enter. The loading bar on the site spun, and chapter eight went into review. Once it passed and went live, Xu Fang’s wish would come true.

All right, let’s begin. Time to start my life as a rich man, Xu Fang thought.

However, he didn’t know that something terrifying was quietly brewing right beside him, dragging along a massive chain reaction.
