Chapter Eight: Gather
update icon Updated at 2025/5/13 18:10:12

Once upon a time, there was a sixteen-year-old isolated boy.

He didn’t have any family or friends, the only reason he had to keep living was probably just his survival instinct as a living being.

As an ordinary student lived in a normal life in a third-rate middle school, he was unable and unwilling to communicate with others.

Even when someone tried to talk to him, he would only stare back at them with a cold gaze, and left them speechless.

"Who will take care of him?"

After his parents passed away, and some of his relatives asked this question.

"Who would or dares to take care of him? He's like a disaster and only bring bad luck wherever he goes. Don't even talk about giving him money, I wouldn't even take care of him if I get paid."

And this, precisely, was the majority opinion among the relatives.

And like this... the boy was ostracized so hard by others, and he even needed to seek social assistance.

"You don't need to worry about me, I'll be fine on my own."

On my own... I'll be fine on my own...

The boy rejected all the care his relatives should have given him after his parents' inheritance was divided, and they only left him the room he used to live in, which was relatively large.

Relatively, he had to work hard to maintain the rent while temporarily ignoring the water and electricity bills.

During the day, he went to school, and after school, he worked as a cashier at a supermarket, and he also did some odd jobs like delivering flowers at a flower shop across the street from the supermarket.

When the boy's mind became heavy on his way to school, he would remind himself like this -

I want to live, I am still alive, and I can live by my own.

Even if there is only myself left in the world, I still want to live.

And I want to live well...

But... I really don't want to be alone...

It seemed as if Heaven finally heard the boy's plea,soon he received a letter that would change his fate one morning...

--------------------------------------

Ah ah... What is this... What am I saying...

I can't believe I'm speaking in such a modern way... Can this black mud understand me...

I looked up and saw a huge black hemisphere with two curved red marks on it that looked like a sad expression rising from the lake.

And It seemed... like it wasn't moving anymore?

I coughed lightly, then took a deep breath to relieve the depression in my chest, then waved my hand to my back -

"Nana! Attack!"

Nana's rainbow-like figure shot out like a bullet and fiercely struck on the hemisphere.

That's right, Nana, that is the vigour. As long as the owner of the world has the confidence to win, nothing can stop you.

"Wo-ugh-"

With a mournful howl from the black mud, a withered flower appeared on top of it.

"Brother!!"

"I understand!"

I extended my arm and pointed at the black mud, softly chanting -

"Red - the burning fire of a throbbing heart;

Orange - the raging heat wave of a boiling sun;

Yellow - the shining star of miracles;

Green - the poetry of a colorful life;

Blue - the surging sea of the future;

Purple - the enchanting voice of singing;

- Oh holy rainbow flower, for thousands of years, you have been the miracle that have maintained our peaceful life and soothed the turmoil of the world. As the eldest son of the Flower Kingdom, I request your presence once again, to banish this defilement from the abyss that has stained your elegance, and restore love and peace to the world -"

Radiant light blossomed from the top of the black mud, then the withered seven-color flower was blooming again, and gradually began to shine in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

Accompanied by a heart-rending roar, the black mud melted into that deep brightness.

Along with the dissolution of the black mud, a towering castle rose from the lake. Besides us, illusionary light shadow appeared above each flower with a shape similar to Nana.

These are probably the rudiments of the flower fairies... right?

"Brother! We did it!"

Nana excitedly buried her head in my chest.

I tried to ignore the feeling of sadness in my heart and gently stroked the girl's forehead.

"Yes, we did it."

Afterwards...

- Alright, it's about time, let's drag her out now -Emile's colorless words startled me.

"Um... Nana, listen to me."

"Hmm?"

The girl stared into my eyes in confusion.

"Actually, this is your mental world."

"In the real world, there is no castle, no black mud, and even... I don't exist."

"Huh?"

The girl's voice trembled.

"And, I am not your older brother. Your older brother has already passed away due to his illness."

"What...? What...?"

The girl's body curled up slightly.

"I am just a stranger who came into this world to break your illusion. And what is next..."

"You're lying!"

"..."

"My brother didn't die... You... You're not my brother! Get out of here!"

With the girl's panicked yell, the whole world turned into a gloomy bloody red with only the black sun continuing to shine brightly.

The grand castle instantly collapsed, and among the ruins, the black mud, which is several times larger than before, began to gather itself again...
