Chapter Five: The Black Mud Tentacles
update icon Updated at 2025/5/10 19:10:12

In the brilliant purple light, a feeling of trance washed over my mind.

The dizziness slowly subsided...

"Ugh..."

I rubbed my temples and strained to open my eyes.

In front of me, everything is blurry.

"It's probably a manifestation of your mind not adapting to this world."

Emile spoke by my ear.

"Well, perhaps."

I used my arms to support the ground behind me and sat up, then looked around.

Under the deep purple sky, there was a faint mist pervading, and countless colorful flowers bloomed beneath this sky. Beside me was a picturesque lake reflecting the ethereal light and shadows of this enchanting dreamlike world.

And the earth beneath my hands emitted a captivating floral fragrance.

This is Nana's spiritual world.

Speaking of which, that thing in the sky...

I spread my palm and reached towards the sun-like entity with a black halo in the sky.

Though it was black, that feeling when staring at it could still be described as "dazzling."

I covered the center of the sun with my palm to better observe the sky.

However...

These slender and long hands...

...

Are my hands.......this long?

And My body feels weird, unexpectedly light...

With that thought, I took my arms back and examined my own limbs.

... Oh my...

Was I previously... this sickly pale?

Wait a moment...

This body... is so flat!?

Could it be...!?

By my ear, Emile, engaging in a mental link with me, voiced my speculation:

"Molly Ann, sweetheart... you've turned into a man..."

In order to understand the reality, I supported this unfamiliar body and moved next to the lake because I wanted to use the reflection to see my face clearly.

However, something unexpected blocked the way.

"Darn it... these flowers and grass by the shore... so tall?"

"Not only tall, they are also pretty hard, probably they have the strength of pure fiber."

Emile felt the grass through my perception, and then made a suggestion for me:

"Burning them would be an unwise move. We don't know if it would harm Nana's spiritual world, and these weeds are interconnected with each other, the fire may escalate beyond containment once we light them."

"One moment, these are all flowers, aren't they? Why call them 'weeds'?"

"Then let's call them 'unnamed flowers'. These 'unnamed flowers' by the lake are like a railing, in the spiritual world, they may indicate dangerous area. So I recommend moving in the opposite direction. There's a higher chance of encountering her in a safe area."

"Alright, just wait a moment, 'unnamed flowers' doesn't sound better than 'weeds'. By the way, you should remember the names of these flowers better than I do, right? I only learned about them from your knowledge, you know?"

"The is so- called, sometimes the observers are clearer about the participants themselves than they are. By the way, was Molly Ann, sweetheart, like this?"

Emile is now playing a third-person perspective game, which is observing Nana's world through my perspective, and then giving me instructions.

In other words, she can see my face right now.

As I stepped forward, I spoke to Emile:

"Just give me a simple description of my appearance."

"Um... I feel like... it looks quite sickly?"

"Ah...!"

"Huh? What's wrong!?"

"To call someone's face sickly... and you're still asking me what's wrong..."

Not good, I feel so sad, my heart is going to stop...

"What! It's clearly a sickly appearance! If you don't believe me, just look at it yourself!"

Do you think I didn't even know what my original appearance looked like...

But still, I instinctively walked towards the side of the lake.

I planned to go away from the lake at first, but in fact, I was walking along the edge of the lake. Which wasn't intentional, but...

Huh? But .......what?

Wasn't I supposed to be moving in the opposite direction? The strange weeds that are on the edge of the lake in front of me are no longer there, and now they just connect with flowers.

A vague call came from the water.

Just go there......like that.

Then, on the smooth and mirror-like surface of the lake, I finally saw the face of "myself".

It is a pale and delicate face, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, as if its owner naturally wears a gentle smile.

"This...is not me."

Although my original appearance is not worse than this, but the temperament it exudes is completely different from mine, it could even be described as the opposite.

If I were to evaluate the face myself, i would say it is an icy and cold face that any stranger should stay away from...

As I was recalling the past in a daze, some strange bubbles suddenly appeared on the originally calm lake surface.

"Gurgling...gurgling..."

"Swoosh--"

A dark tentacle violently attacked from the water.

"Ah!?"

Although after Emile's reminder, I quickly stepped back a few steps to avoid it.But I still got hit by a dirty and sticky black slime.

And the black tentacles showed no signs of letting me go, instead, they emerged from the water surface and approached me step by step.

Oh no...my body...is not under my control...

The tentacle emerged from the water surface more than ten meters, and swiftly attacked towards me.

"Ah..."

Eh...Emile...

Just as I wanted to call out like this, a small and agile figure leaped from nowhere and pierced through the tentacle in an instant.

"--Stop! Don't you dare hurt my elder brother!!"
