Perspective: Fir - Location: Daikofu Island
"So... Uncle Monty, when was the last time you visited this island?"
Standing a kilometer away from Daikofu Island, I used a telescope to look at the harbor in the distance for quite some time, then turned to Uncle Monty.
"It was probably... about two months ago, even a bit shorter," Uncle Monty's expression was grave, and the situation before us was beyond his understanding.
However, having spent time with Monty during this period, I knew he was neither the type to joke around nor someone with mental issues, so the problem definitely didn't lie with him.
Oh, I almost forgot to explain the current situation.
Half an hour ago, after a day of sailing, we finally arrived at Daikofu Island as Uncle Monty had mentioned. We planned to stock up here before heading towards the Lost Continent. But as we arrived and prepared to dock, our lookout, Hendrick, suddenly shouted that something seemed off on the island.
Upon closer inspection through the telescope, we were taken aback. Normally, a harbor on an island in the middle of the sea would be bustling with activity, but after our observation, it felt eerily deserted, with a sense of inexplicable desolation shrouding the entire island.
Through the telescope, we could clearly see the torn clothes on the pirates' harbour and even signs of destruction in places. It seemed like the island had been attacked by a formidable force.
"Brother, this place looks so scary," Oyado whispered.
"Yeah, it's totally creepy. What's going on here? It looks like it's been abandoned for years. Uncle Monty, you said you were here two months ago, really? It feels like this place has been deserted for years," Aliyah chimed in, though she seemed more curious than worried, unlike Oyado.
Well, what can I say? Oyado is physically seven years old, but mentally not even one. If her mind wasn't filled with assassin knowledge, she'd probably hide behind me now.
I didn't have any expectations.
"It was indeed about two months ago. We were here to bring back a load of fruit from Daikofu Island, weren't we, Hendrick?"
"Yes, that's right."
Given the current situation, Hendrick, responsible for lookout duty, returned to the deck.
Needless to say, it wasn't a good idea to land in these circumstances.
"When we left, there were 19 ships in the harbor. I remember it vividly," Hendrick affirmed.
"But the way it looks now is...," Aliyah started.
"I think, Fir, if Uncle Monty isn't mistaken, someone attacked the harbor and then accelerated the decay of the entire place using time magic, giving it this desolate look," I interjected.
"Time magic?" Aliyah pondered.
"You're right, there might be someone here who can use time magic."
"Who'd be bored enough to master time magic and mess up a couple of harbors? What kind of joke is this? Uncle Monty, do you know any famous mages who can use time magic?"
"That's a tough one," Uncle Monty grimaced.
"If you asked me about famous mercenaries or sailors, I might have one or two names, but mages? I really have no idea."
"I see..."
"Besides, Fir, as a mage, shouldn't you know more?"
"Well, what's the point of wasting time remembering the mages' names? Others are others. We just need to focus on our own skills."
"Haha, true. You're quite a unique mage, Fir. Most mages prefer to lock themselves in their labs for a dozen years without coming out. It's rare to see a mage like you, always running around," Uncle Monty remarked.
"Well...," I thought to myself. Would I level up by hiding in a room? How could I upgrade my skills if I merely experimented in my lab, aiming at mirrors?
"Well, since we don't know, let's stop thinking about it and focus on solving the issue. Uncle Monty, as seafarers, what do you think? Should we avoid this place, seek supplies elsewhere, or head straight to Daikofu Island?"
"Going to another harbor..."
After examining the sea map we gave him, Uncle Monty spoke, "If the map is correct, skipping Daikofu Island for supplies would mean going to another harbor. But not just for resupply, but to switch to a new ship because our current one won't reach the Lost Continent."
"Well, that's...," I muttered. How frustrating, seriously?
"All right, it's quite dangerous for you to go up there. Do you have a small boat for survival? Let me go over there directly."
"Uh, is that okay? It looks very dangerous," I questioned his decision.
"...What?" I chuckled.
"Dangerous? If anything, this is obviously the work of some bored individual. We just need to solve it."
Like someone named Henry, solving it would suffice.
"I'll go along too, I'm really curious to see who turned this place like this," Aliyah said, rubbing her hands.
"Then... then I'll go too! Since my brother says so!" Oyado raised her hand enthusiastically.
"Hey, why do you both want to come? I can handle this alone."
"We just want to explore on the way. It's boring to stay on the ship anyway," Aliyah reasoned.
"Fine... all right, let's not bother with the boat. It's too troublesome," I said, summoning my ice wings.
This was a plastic magic; the summoned ice wings indeed had the ability to fly but consumed MP according to the time used for flying.
"Really? You can still fly!" Aliyah exclaimed.
"I don't need the hassle. You can fly." With that, Aliyah took two steps back, then accelerated forward to jump from the bow of the ship, soaring towards the island like a solid ball.
Of course, our ship tilted 30 degrees, prompting us to quickly stabilize ourselves by grabbing onto nearby objects.
"This is chaotic. Let's go, Oyado." I carried Oyado and flew directly into the air.
Let's see what exactly happened here.
