Chapter 39 Mirage

It's strange to say, but this passage turned out to be a straight path ahead.

At first, we were on edge, fearing some monster might appear in front of us. Even though we defeated the Dragon Lion Scorpion just now in less than a minute, it was because our strongest members collectively unleashed their power before the opponent realized how strong we were. While beasts are indeed much stronger than humans, given our numbers, unless it could become invincible, a beast that could withstand so many of our attacks wouldn't need to hang around here for long.

And now we are only three, but that's not the most important part. After all, except for my strange DPS, Ona's combat power is definitely weaker, although considering her position, she should be strong in legion battles. And as for Kanielia, come on, she's a student of the Sword Saint, if you tell me she's weak, then I can only scoff at the title of Sword Saint.

Along the way, we kept ourselves busy. At first, I started asking Ona about life in the camp, like what they do every day, and what entertainment is available. Then, probably feeling bored, Kanielia joined our conversation.

According to Ona, life in the camp is extremely boring. Not to mention the military rules, just the daily mandatory meditation exercises give her a headache.

Makes sense, she's from Crimson Leaf, just planted in the camp. Although we don't know how long she's been there, her temperament is wild, and sitting there meditating only gives her a headache.

Besides, she is a dark mage, though registered officially, the characteristic of this elemental mage is summed up in one word: kill! Meditation is useless, only by continuously using skills to slaughter can she enhance her abilities.

No wonder this girl, although she always has a stern face this time, there's not a trace of tiredness, probably she sees this as a rare exercise opportunity, even though it's boring, her mood is exceptionally good.

As for Kanielia, under the instigation of Ona and me, she also started talking about her past.

But...

Unexpectedly boring.

In short, her words can be summarized in one sentence, "The master is great!"

Well, I don't know what the Sword Saint did in the past, but in this girl's eyes, her master is a towering figure, unbeatable, noble, handsome middle-aged man.

If it weren't for my extensive knowledge, I'd really think this girl has a thing for older men, but based on my years of gaming experience, she's just developed an excessive admiration for her master after following him for so long.

Although I wanted to steer her back on track, I realized I'd only known her for a day or two, so why should I bother? I'm not Tang Seng.

Thinking like this, I swallowed the words on the tip of my tongue.

Seeing me remain silent, Ona too closed her mouth.

It was Kanielia who couldn't stop, talking non-stop like a machine gun, recounting her and her master's experiences, even how many beasts they had slain was very clear to her.

Damn, I really wanted to drag this girl into the abyss to join the battle, what's the point in having the leisure to count how many beasts you've killed.

Finally, when our ears were nearly calloused, a faint light appeared at the very front of the straight passage.

Seeing this scene, Ona and I nodded and rushed out.

"And then, that time when me and my master... Huh? Where's he?"

As Kanilia spoke, she suddenly realized that we had all disappeared. Upon closer inspection, she found out that we had all actually run outside. At the same time, she must have noticed the distant light and swiftly accelerated towards it.

I have to say, this guy's stamina is much better than us mages. Just as we rushed to the doorway, Kanilia caught up with us from behind.

We all burst out of the entrance at the same time and came to a stop involuntarily.

"What on earth is this place?" Ona gazed in disbelief at the scene before us.

Even I was taken aback; after all, what lay before us was not a cave but a vast plain.

The distant mountains, the nearby grass, and the sparse trees.

I have to admit, this was truly an extraordinary sight.

"Oh no! The door..." Ona's voice rang out, and as I turned around, where we had entered just moments ago, there was no door. Looking back, all I saw was a wide expanse of plain.

I walked about 100 meters in the direction we came from and then shook my head as I walked back.

"It seems the door is indeed gone. We must have been transported to someplace."

"Ugh, how troublesome." Ona grimaced.

"This place..." Kanilia suddenly said.

"I remember being here before."

"What? Where is this place?" both Ona and I asked simultaneously.

"Wait, let me think... hmm, this is the plain near the southern seas where my master and I wandered before." She raised a hand and pointed to the sky, pausing as she furrowed her brows.

"Strange, according to my memory, this place should be very close to the seaside. If we walked along this plain, we should see the sea in half a day. And with the terrain so flat, we should be able to feel the sea breeze and fishy scent... haha, although I haven't smelled it in a long time, so I kinda forgot what that fishy smell is like."

Hey, wait a minute, wasn't the place we were going to find you by the seaside? And you're talking about not remembering the fishy smell? Your memory is as fishy as fish, right?

Just then, a gust of wind blew, as if in response to Kanilia's words, carrying the scent of the sea.

"Yeah, that's the smell," she said.

In that moment, I became puzzled.

There was no scent of the sea at first, and suddenly there was. The scent of the sea isn't something that just appears out of nowhere; if you could smell it, it should have been there all along in the vicinity. How could it be absent at the beginning?

Unless...

"Everyone, be careful, this might be an illusion!" I said, though not entirely sure myself.

There were two reasons for my uncertainty. Firstly, from the moment we entered this room until now, there were no seams or unnatural places, except for the disappearing door. Secondly, the Reality Goggles I had could see through all falsehoods unless the other party's abilities were truly terrifying. If the environment in front of me was indeed an illusion, I should be able to see through it, especially with my All-knowing Eye.

But nothing is absolute, perhaps the other party is far stronger than me, then I would be helpless.

"Illusion? Are you saying phantoms?" Ona furrowed her brows, then waved a hand, summoning a black fireball.

"Isn't it unlikely? This fireball looks the same as the ones I usually summon; you know, I've specifically trained with my fireball, and it's different from what others use."

"What if they could know what we are thinking?" I chuckled.

"Just think about it, at first, Canelia mentioned this was a place she had been to before. And before we arrived, Canelia kept talking about her master and her journey, which led us here. But Canelia, you were the first to notice something was amiss, the lack of sea breeze and the smell of the ocean."

"As she spoke, I recalled the scent of the sea in my mind," said Ona, her face solemn.

"If that's really the case, aren't we in serious danger?"

"Master always said that breaking illusions is quickest and simplest by experiencing pain," Ona continued.

With that, this girl actually pulled out a small dagger and stabbed it into her thigh.

Damn! Doing this will break so many leg fetishists' hearts!

But just as she plunged the dagger in, she suddenly disappeared before our eyes!

Ona and I looked at each other, seemingly waiting for each other's next move.

"Stabbing oneself with a dagger..."

"It must be very painful; let's just forget about it."

Both Ona and I said simultaneously.

"Or... how about we attack each other? It's hard to hurt oneself."

"Good idea."

As soon as these words fell, Ona charged towards me in a swift step, delivering a punch straight at me! I didn't hold back either and retaliated with a punch of my own.

Our fists collided, and I felt a sharp pain! Did this guy just enhance his defense with magic?

But as a result, everything went black for us. When we came to, the three of us were still standing in the same passageway.

Ona and I were both holding our hands, and I could only force a smile.

Damn it, Ona, with your level, I don't need to enhance my defense at all. Wait, it still hurts a lot!

"Can't you go easy on me? Do you think you’re all that just because you're strong?" Ona scolded.

"You're no better, enhancing your defense. Don't you know that strength is relative? Serves you right."

"Look!"

Just as we were about to argue further, we heard Canelia's gasp of astonishment.

We went over to take a look and gasped in horror.

There were many bodies lying haphazardly on the corridor. Not just human bodies, but also those of monsters.

"It seems that throughout history, there have always been those who seek to trespass the dragon's tomb."

I knew this path was treacherous.
