Chapter 26 Assault
update icon Updated at 2026/3/30 17:00:02

Just after entering, I saw several skeleton soldiers rushing towards us from the opposite side. These are considered as some of the most basic summonings in Necromancy, right?

Aliyah dashed over in one swift motion, her sword directly colliding with the opposing sword. Meanwhile, Oyado behind her disappeared in a graceful spin, only to reappear next to the skeleton soldier in the next moment. Her dagger pierced through the soldier's spine several times, directly shattering it.

The unsupported skeleton soldiers scattered, and as I reached out my hand, the fragments of the skeletons ignited and soon turned into ashes.

"They weren't completely destroyed just now. Even if we shatter them, they can still reassemble their bodies using the intact parts to continue fighting. But even if we burn them to ashes, they would only be banished back to the abyss. After all, these undead creatures were summoned from the abyss, and as long as the abyss exists, the undead will not cease to exist."

"Miss Filia seems to know a lot," Melordo exclaimed beside me.

"Well... I am a necromancer, so I naturally know. But I didn't realize that this wasn't common knowledge," I chuckled helplessly.

"I learned it from my companions who fought alongside me. Those mercenaries often go out and naturally know some things, yes."

"I see. Indeed, going out more does have its benefits."

"Hahaha, yes."

Aliyah and Oyado beside me rolled their eyes, and I sighed helplessly. What can I do about their eyerolls?

Just then, I caught sight of a few more undead creatures slowly approaching not far away. However, their HP bars were too visible, exposing them.

"Electric Arc!"

Several lightning bolts shot out directly along the wall, passing through three of the undead. The three let out a piercing scream and disappeared into thin air, while the rest of the undead scattered and vanished before us.

"Besides skeleton soldiers, there are also specters? Looks like they have quite a few underlings," Aliyah said as she sheathed her sword.

"But there shouldn't be any more enemies around here, right? Let's keep moving," Aliyah, being of a higher level, naturally had a clearer understanding of the surroundings than I did.

As for me, unless I wear the Reality Goggles, I wouldn't be able to perceive many things. However, the Reality Goggles, although they look like glasses, are quite unique in appearance. If I were to wear them, it might reveal my identity to those who have seen me before.

And now, that person is Melordo.

"Melordo, you should be the most familiar with this place. Lead the way," I said.

"Even if I lead... I still don't know where to go," Melordo replied.

"It's just a few places, like your father's room or study. I think those are the most likely places, right? Or maybe your house has a basement?"

"We don't have a basement, and my father's study is his room."

"Then we're in luck. Let's go directly there."

"Okay, please follow me," Melordo said, and she walked ahead to guide us.

However, it was clear that the interior of her house was no longer a normal space. The surrounding space seemed distorted and had a faint purple tint.

But I couldn't see anything abnormal from the status bar. It seemed to be just a visual change, without any notable side effects.

"I must say, your father seems quite powerful as a necromancer. I have encountered necromancers before, but they could only summon undead creatures or larger ones. It's the first time I've seen someone completely transform a space into their own domain."

"Yeah... My father seems to refer to it as the 'Art of Immortality', though I'm not entirely sure."

"The 'Art of Immortality', huh? Sounds tempting, but how can immortality not come with a price..."

I wonder if loading a saved game counts?

"It's a bit pitiful for your father, being lured by an unknown spell and causing trouble for his own family. But they say there's a flaw in every pitiful person, and it's because of your father's desires that the other side found an opportunity."

"Yeah..."

Melordo's response seemed a bit unnatural, but it was only for a moment, and she continued speaking.

"This way, Father's study is on the third floor..."

Before she could finish, I quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her back, and then a massive scythe swung from left to right where she had just been!

"Wow!"

Melordo, pulled by me, lost her balance and fell onto me.

"An enemy?"

Aliyah quickly drew her sword, keeping an eye on their surroundings.

"No... just a trap."

I gave a bitter smile. Luckily, my lowest-level title skill, "Famous Detective," could still be used. It warned me a few seconds before the trap activated, otherwise Melordo would probably have been cut in half or seriously injured.

However, I don't know if it's because of different constitutions or some other reason, but when I activated the skill "Famous Detective" just now, it seemed like I could see the scythe through the wall, and it was even marked in red.

Could it be that different bodies have different ways of displaying? Or is it that lower levels actually make the display clearer?

Whatever, in any case, it's a good thing. Otherwise, we would be in even more danger.

"Let's go. The Saint will be here soon, right? We should move quickly."

"Yeah."

"Hey Melordo, can you get off me before answering? Though you're not very heavy, I can't move like this."

"Ah, I'm so sorry!"

Melordo hurriedly got up with a flushed face.

"Alright."

I stood up and said.

"Melordo, lead the way. You and I will go in front, Aliyah, you cover the rear. And Oyado, make sure to watch out for any people... I mean, any undead creatures trying to ambush us."

"Understood."

I looked at the black staircase leading upstairs and smiled faintly.

Who do they think they're scaring with it being so dark? Regular people would feel terrified, right?

Do they think we're afraid of the dark? That's because they don't know we have flash bombs, right?

Happy New Year, red envelopes... no, bring me some votes----------------------------------

Just as the group entered the Simeon Bell mansion, Yabber received news and hurried over.

Fran was following behind her. Although she came to help, her greater interest was in collecting items from other necromancers.

"What? Someone went in?"

Yabber pressed the button on his headset and after a while, he suddenly said,

"What kind of person went in? Are they all students from the Imperial College?... Eh? Fir's sister? Are there any men among the people who went in? None? How is that possible... Well, I'll go over there right away."

After speaking, Yabber turned to look at Fran behind him.

"It seems that those people really like to cause trouble even when Fir is not around."

"It's hard to say."

Fran smiled.

"Maybe Fir is inside too~"
