Chapter 31 The Rise of the Monsters 21 Temple

"This building gives me a feeling of an ancient Mayan temple," whispered Aliyah as she watched the approaching ancient architecture.

"Maybe it's possible that Mayan people have traveled through time," she pondered aloud.

"Are you sure it's not people from the ancient or black gold ages of our world who have traveled to ours?" I asked.

"I think our dimension is higher than this world's, so reverse time travel shouldn't be possible, right?" she replied.

"Well... who knows," I shrugged.

Just as we were chatting, the eagle suddenly tucked its wings to its sides and dove down through a skylight-like opening in the temple.

"Ugh, what a hassle. Hold on tight, we're almost at our destination," I said.

"Wait, are we going on a roller coaster?" Aliyah exclaimed.

"No way, I'll make sure... Ahhh!"

I was about to assure her that I would land safely, but before I could even descend a bit, the feeling of controlling my wings disappeared and was replaced by a sensation of weightlessness!

That's right, it was that sensation of weightlessness you get on a bungee jump. Just like Aliyah said, we were now experiencing a roller coaster-like thrill.

But this wasn't intentional on my part, because I had only approached the temple slightly, and my name status displayed a "No Flying" mark.

Yes, just like before in the maze, my flight ability was directly restricted. It seems that this temple was indeed extraordinary because it limited my abilities with its rules.

"Stay still and hold on tight!" I quickly summoned an ice skateboard, and the tornado beneath it instantly reached its maximum speed. I could even see the green storm striking the ground and creating a surge of air pressure!

However, our descent was too fast, and the summoning of the ice skateboard was too sudden. The DPS of the wind force did not directly oppose the floor, so although our speed was reduced, we still crashed through the skylight and hit the floor below.

But during the descent, I slightly rotated my body so that I landed first, and then Aliyah landed on top of me.

With a loud crash, my HP decreased by half. I'm not sure if it was from the blood lost from the fall or from Aliyah's weight.

Or maybe it was both.

"Ouch... your way of landing is really strange," Aliyah groaned.

"It's obviously not my fault... didn't you see the 'No Flying' zone?" I replied.

"I saw it, otherwise do you think I would be talking to you calmly instead of giving you a sword?" she retorted.

"..."

This person is really violent.

"Alright, well, thanks for your concern," I said.

"Thank me. I'm such a reasonable person," she smirked.

"Yeah yeah, can you please get off me now? You're heavy."

"One more comment and you're dead!"

With a swish, Aliyah drew her magic saw.

Seeing the saw spin, I quickly shook my head.

"Okay okay, could you please get off now? We still need to grind for experience, don't we? And this looks like a ruin, there might be a lot of treasures to plunder."

"Hmph! I'll consider it because you mentioned World of Warcraft," Aliyah huffed.

She flipped backward onto the floor behind her and pulled out what looked like a flashlight.

After twisting it, the device actually emitted light just like a flashlight.

"Hello, where did you buy the flashlight?"

I painfully got up from the ground and quickly applied a healing spell to myself.

“Oh, this? The church is selling them now. I disassembled one. The structure is actually quite simple—there's a light elemental crystal in the front, followed by a magic activation device in the back. In the middle, there's a magic circuit for the flash spell. Just touch the activation device every 30 seconds, and the light will stay on.”

"… Well, next time we meet Dale, we should have him make one with electricity. This is just a waste of light elemental crystals."

"I agree."

"But looking at the design, it seems like the designer is also from our world. It means that there are people from our world in the church. Hopefully, they weren't sent in by the rival faction. We already have enough trouble."

"Alright."

Aliyah swept the flashlight around the surroundings. Based on what we saw, the interior of this temple seemed to be made of stone. There didn't seem to be any other light sources above the corridors, not even a single lamp.

The straight corridor led to both sides, and shining the flashlight on it, we couldn't see the end at all.

"It definitely is a strange place here."

Aliyah said, taking out another flashlight and handing it to me.

"Thanks. So, what should we do next? Should we turn this place upside down?"

"Of course, why else would we have come?"

"Which way should we go? I can't tell which direction the giant eagle went."

Both sides of the corridor were spacious, with the corridor being a square shape with a side length of about five meters.

Even if the giant eagle couldn't fly, it could walk directly in the corridor. However, it wasn't clear which way it went.

"Hmm..."

Aliyah smelled the air and said,

"It seems like this temple has been open for a long time. Last time I went to an ancient temple, there was a strong musty smell, but there's barely any here... By the way, the giant eagle went this way."

She pointed to the left passage, and Aliyah started walking towards it.

"Wait, can you now smell things better after turning into a wolf?"

I quickly followed her.

"Yeah, it's both a good thing and a bad thing. Now even the slightest noise can wake me up, I can't get a good rest."

"Well... that's indeed a problem."

As we walked, I touched the stone wall beside me.

The wall emitted a cold breath and felt like touching cold metal. But it was clearly not the touch of metal.

I tapped the wall with a little force, and although it made a dull sound like a solid stone wall, it showed no signs of breaking. I increased my strength and punched it hard. The wall didn't break but instead left an indestructible mark.

"Aliyah, do you see this?"

I pointed to the four characters on the wall that couldn't be destroyed and asked Aliyah.

"Hmm?"

Aliyah turned to look at the wall and shone her flashlight on it.

"I don't see anything. What did you see?"

"In my vision, this wall has the words 'indestructible' written on it."

"'Indestructible'?"

Aliyah walked up to the wall with doubt, drew her dagger from her waist, and stabbed the wall.

"Huh? There it is! Has the level of the rules in this place reached such a high level?"

"......"

No, no, I can't help but feel that this is similar to the situation we used to play in games. Walls that cannot be destroyed, locked doors that cannot be opened to progress the plot, being trapped in a prison cell that looks wider than ourselves but unable to escape.

But in this world, although many things appear to be similar to typical RPG settings, we can actually do things like breaking down walls.

And if we think about it the other way around...

"Perhaps... it's not that the rules here are too powerful for us to destroy the walls," I said to Aliyah.

"Maybe... it's because the divinity of this place is too high and our terminals cannot interfere, so we cannot cause any damage to this temple."

"Divinity?"

"Yeah, usually there are gods in this world, right? Why haven't we seen a trace of them until now?"

"....Maybe they went on vacation?"

"I think..."

I pondered for a moment and smiled.

"Perhaps, they haven't woken up yet."
