Chapter 38: The Black Market in Hemdon City

"If it's alright with you, may I ask where your money comes from?"

As we left the weapon shop, Gabriel asked me with a worried expression on his face.

"What's wrong?"

"Well, it seems like the benefits of your guild are pretty good. You're willing to buy these weapons that have no enchantments."

"Haha... is that so?"

To my surprise, these weapons were actually quite cheap, costing only one gold coin each. Although they lacked additional effects, they still had a considerable increase in attack power.

However, the shop only had four types of different patched weapons. They explained that they didn't restock other types due to low sales. But since I wasn't skilled in weapons that people in this world aren't good at, these four types were enough for me.

These four weapons were obviously additional items made by the Simu family when they were creating humanoids. Each weapon had its own name. The combination that could switch between a greatsword, a long spear, and a shield was called "Fierce". The combination that could switch between a longsword and a dagger was called "Destroy". The combination that could switch between dual blades and a bow was called "Menace". And the combination that could switch between a knight sword and a whip was called "Punish". Although I don't know who named them, they seemed pretty cool.

But after buying them, I immediately put these weapons into my ring. After all, not many people in this area would be willing to buy and use such unique weapons. Mercenaries prioritize practicality. Besides, we would also need to infiltrate this place later, and it would be too obvious to bring those weapons along.

However...

"We seemed a bit arrogant when we were shopping just now. It seems like we have a few tails following us."

As we turned the corner, I noticed four people behind us, all with red names. It was obvious that I was their target.

But their levels weren't high, ranging from fourteen to sixteen, so they weren't much of a threat.

"Yeah, I noticed too. But those tails will probably give up once we reach the black market, right?"

Gabriel glanced back and said.

"But it's not safe to let them know we're going to the black market, right? After all, we stood out a bit in the Simu family shop just now. If they were sent by the Simu family, we're not safe, right, big brother?"

"Yeah, Oyado is right, but..."

"Leave it to me, big brother. I promise to make sure they never come back..."

"No!"

I looked at Oyado seriously and said,

"I don't know what you have in your memories, but don't solve everything with violence. That's not right."

"But..."

"I think it'd be better to leave this task to Uncle Gabriel."

After speaking, I looked at Gabriel.

"Huh? Why me?"

"Don't you have memory magic? Just modify the memories of these four guys, right?"

"Well, that's true... It doesn't match your character though. Even when you wiped out those bandits, you were pretty ruthless. You didn't even ask for their names before wiping them all out."

"Because it didn't matter with those guys. But these guys don't know where they're from. If their guild finds out they're dead and the Simu family reveals some information, we'll be in trouble. You don't want that, do you?"

"You make a good point."

"Indeed, big brother is thinking ahead as always."

"Haha..."

There was no other way. I noticed the words "Radiant Dragon Guild" in the titles of those four people just now. Even if other guilds didn't know, I knew about this revengeful guild.

This guild... can be described with one word: made up of extremely vengeful people. Once you provoke one of them, it's like poking a hornet's nest. There was a case where another guild only injured one of their members, and they went on a killing spree against everyone in that guild, lasting for a month before it ended. They became famous because of that incident.

We absolutely cannot provoke a guild like that. Otherwise, it would become a large-scale battle between the three of us and their guild. Although we had a cunning mage, a cunning shadow priest, and an assassin skilled in various methods of killing... killing people is not a good thing, right? I'm not avoiding them just because they wouldn't drop much money or experience if we killed them. So it's better to resolve things peacefully~

After half an hour, four mercenaries were directly thrown into prison by the guards for looting weapons from the Simu family's shop. No one knew why, not even the members of the Hao Long Guild. They had no choice but to dismiss the four, as they didn't have the courage to go against the guards.

As for us, we successfully reached the black market in the sewers of Herndon City. Although we walked for a long time in the filthy sewers and finally discovered that the black market was also located inside the sewers, I was still relieved to see this market bustling like a weekend market.

"So let's disperse now and meet up at 5 o'clock in the afternoon."

I said so.

"Okay."

"Sounds good, big brother~"

It was decided after everyone discussed it, as everyone had their own privacy. Gabriel, of course, didn't need to be mentioned, and as for Oyado... cough cough, who knows what items girls want to buy? It would be better to quietly leave at such times. This is the experience I've accumulated over hundreds of years to avoid vegetable knives and the NICE BOAT incident, although it wasn't from my own experience.

But they wouldn't go to the place where I was going, according to the information I received from Fran before. With that information, I quickly found the location of those private terminals among the numerous stalls.

Although the widespread use of terminals was not yet complete, most guilds had started using this convenient information transmission tool, so it was natural that someone would do business like this.

Standing at the entrance was a person dressed entirely in black clothes, unable to tell if they were a man or a woman, but their eyes were bloodshot and very sharp. However, their title told me that this was a man. I handed a gold coin to the person at the door, and they gave me a glance before accepting the gold coin.

Dream Society, this fellow belongs to an organization called Dream Society. Since they had the ability to make terminals, it was very likely that they had someone from a different world like me.

But for now, it was better to focus on the matter at hand.

Entering a private room, I inserted the terminal into the computer. The computer flashed and turned into a background of red leaves, followed by a welcome message.

'Latest Missions'

After entering this command, the terminal flashed and displayed several pieces of information.

'Based on your location, there are several missions available.'

'One, find a girl with orange hair, reward: 900 gold coins.'

'Two, kill the Lord of Herndon City, reward: 1200+900+900 gold coins.'

'Three, kill...'

I rubbed my temples and let out a helpless smile.

"Have I been discovered? Looks like I need to hurry up."
