Davis’s Call for Reinforcements — Chapter 263
The entire White Stork Empire was on high alert. Everyone stood ready, prepared to fight at any moment.
Within half a month, the barbarians from the Ruined Land had launched their sixth assault. The White Stork Knights suffered heavy losses.
The soldiers of the White Stork Empire weren’t the only ones standing atop the walls. Reinforcements from the Crescent Empire and the Sun-Moon Empire were there as well.
The two rulers knew very well that White Stork absolutely couldn’t fall to the barbarians of the Ruined Land. Otherwise, both their empires would face a calamity.
As the ballistae roared, the barbarians from the Ruined Land launched their seventh assault.
This time, their attack was fiercer than before. Massive Bimong warriors surged toward the walls like a flood, charging all the way toward White Stork’s gates.
A tremendous explosion rang out.
A massive breach appeared in the city wall, and the incubus soldiers poured into the city like a raging tide.
As the cavalry captain, Davis charged at the very front. More than a thousand knights followed behind him.
As the legitimate heir of the Laurent family, Davis could have relied on his father to secure a safe position in the rear of the army.
But he had rejected his father’s offer without hesitation.
His reason was simple: he wanted to become stronger.
There were many ways to grow stronger. Davis had chosen the most dangerous one—battle.
Only by enduring the baptism of war could he grow rapidly. But it was also the most perilous path. The slightest mistake could cost him his life.
Davis hadn’t relied on even the slightest bit of his family’s influence. He had slowly risen from an ordinary soldier to his current position.
“Charge!” Davis shouted.
More than a thousand knights advanced in perfect unison. They raised their sharp swords and pressed forward step by step, cutting down everything in their path.
Purple arcs of electricity flickered across Davis’s body. He looked as mighty and imposing as thunder itself, his aura overwhelming.
“Judgment! Thunderous Afterimages!”
Davis raised one hand, and his figure instantly split into hundreds of afterimages.
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!”
Blades flashed with a chilling gleam as they hacked down toward the enemy.
These blades contained an incredibly powerful force of thunder. Anyone struck by even one of them would certainly die.
“Ahhh!”
Piercing screams rang out.
One incubus soldier after another was struck, their bodies exploding apart on the spot.
Suddenly, an incubus commander leading the soldiers blurred and appeared before Davis. He kicked straight toward Davis’s abdomen.
“Bang!”
Davis was sent flying several meters away.
While in midair, Davis spat out a mouthful of blood. His internal organs felt as though they had been knocked out of place.
He flipped up from the ground and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
“You’re nothing special!”
Davis cast the incubus commander a disdainful glance.
The incubus commander was tall and powerfully built. His skin was dark, and an intense killing aura radiated from his body.
Hearing Davis’s taunt, the commander glanced at the blade embedded in his hand and grinned.
“Human, I’ll show you what true strength is.”
With that, the incubus commander leaped into the air. His body transformed into a streak of black light and shot toward Davis.
Davis immediately used spatial magic, Instant Shift, to evade.
The incubus commander instantly unleashed a Black Veil, covering Davis and suppressing his movements.
Without the slightest hesitation, Davis activated Burning Rage.
An overwhelming blaze of fury swept in every direction, forming a shield of flames around him.
Burning Rage was a unique ability of fire magic. It consumed a tremendous amount of mana and could be ended at will.
If all the user’s mana was depleted, it would begin burning their life force until death.
While Burning Rage was active, Davis’s strength increased more than fivefold.
He used that power for defense.
Davis knew very well that he was no match for the incubus commander. And now, he was trapped inside the Black Veil as well.
Seeing this, the incubus commander couldn’t help admiring the human before him.
If he survived and matured, he would certainly become an extraordinary figure.
Unfortunately, this human had no future.
Today, he would die here.
“Phantom Shadows!”
The incubus commander raised a hand.
A pitch-black ghost immediately condensed behind him. Its eyes glowed red, and a low growl rumbled from its throat.
Then it opened its bloody maw and lunged at Davis.
Phantom Shadows was an ultimate technique of the incubus race. It could devour an enemy’s soul, leaving the victim weakened.
The wall of flames blocked the ghost’s devouring attack, but a crack was torn through it.
Davis quickly repaired the shield.
At the same time, his fire mana drained faster and faster.
Suddenly, a hurricane roared in from the distance and swept toward them.
Under the hurricane’s destruction, the Black Veil was quickly torn open, revealing a slit of sky outside.
Davis immediately used Instant Shift and vanished, escaping the Black Veil’s range.
The incubus commander looked up, and his expression changed.
“It’s you!”
He stared at the flying woman in the sky.
She had long, pale-gold wavy hair, with a white hair clip pinned into it.
She wore a black vest trimmed in blue. A shoulder guard covered her left shoulder, and both sleeves were decorated with cyan edging.
Her lower half was dressed in a blue short skirt with cyan pleats.
A leg ring wrapped around her right thigh, covered in hidden weapons.
At her side hung a jade-colored dagger sheath.
A white device resembling a launcher was strapped to her left arm. It looked extremely expensive.
“Singri? What is she doing here?”
Davis stared at her in surprise.
Singri’s gaze fixed coldly on the enemy.
With a slight turn of her wrist, a slender steel needle appeared in her hand.
“Whoosh!”
The needle shot out as a streak of light, swift as lightning.
In the blink of an eye, it appeared before the incubus commander.
He immediately swung the blade at his side and knocked the needle away.
“Clang!”
The steel needle collided with his side blade, sending sparks flying.
“Without that crippled winged man, you’ll die today!”
The incubus commander sneered at Singri.
“Kursa, your incubus forces are destined to suffer a crushing defeat. The White Stork Empire will be victorious,” Singri said.
“Hahaha! That’s hilarious!”
Kursa threw his head back and laughed.
“Look at the battlefield now. Where is there any chance of victory? I’ll slaughter your entire nation!”
He looked at the fear, panic, and shock written across the faces of the surrounding humans. The sight filled him with immense pleasure.
Davis couldn’t tolerate the invader’s arrogant laughter.
He let out an angry roar. Lightning and thunder elemental energy burst from his body, forming a thick electric dragon.
“Judgment! Heavy Thunder, Breaker of Armies!”
The massive thunder dragon roared and lunged toward Kursa.
Kursa raised a hand.
The Black Veil instantly wrapped around the thunder dragon, binding it tightly. The power of its lightning elemental energy was continuously weakened.
Singri slowly descended and landed beside Davis.
“Kursa’s Black Veil can only be dispersed by wind. The other six types of Elemental Magic will be weakened to nothing,” she said coldly.
At that moment, Davis found Singri completely unfamiliar.
The gentle, kind, and obedient girl he knew had somehow become so cold. There was even killing intent in her eyes.
Davis could sense a dense killing aura around Singri.
Only someone who had killed many people could possess such an aura.
Davis had served in the army for three years. He naturally carried plenty of bloodshed and sin upon himself.
In a sense, he and Singri were alike.
Judging from the killing aura radiating from Singri, she had killed no fewer people than he had.
“When will the reinforcements arrive?” Singri asked, turning to Davis.
“Soon. I sent up a signal flare earlier. They should be here any moment,” Davis replied.
“Good.”
Singri nodded.
Her gaze gradually turned sharper.
She drew her jade dagger. Her figure suddenly appeared before Kursa, and the dagger stabbed straight toward his throat.
Kursa reacted quickly as well.
His side blade trembled and blocked his throat.
“Ding!”
The jade dagger collided with the side blade, creating a violent shower of sparks.
Seeing this, Davis swung his longsword toward Kursa’s neck.
Kursa kicked Singri away, then fiercely slashed at Davis.
“Clang!”
The force behind Kursa’s attack shattered Davis’s blade.
The slash struck him directly across the chest.
The clothing over Davis’s chest was sliced into several pieces, exposing the muscle beneath. Blood trickled down his body.
Davis clutched his chest and staggered back several steps, his face twisted in pain.
“Davis, are you all right?”
Seeing him injured, Singri asked worriedly.
“I’m fine. I’m not dying yet.”
Davis shook his head and forced himself to stand straight.
“You’ll be dead soon enough!”
Kursa snorted coldly.
His body blurred, and he vanished from where he stood.
Singri hurriedly raised her dagger to block, but she soon realized that Kursa surpassed her in both speed and strength.
Before long, Kursa knocked her flying.
Her body crashed into the wall, leaving it caved in around her.
“Bang!”
With a muffled impact, Singri’s body fell from the wall and slammed onto the ground.
“Pfft!”
Singri spat out a mouthful of blood.
Her entire body felt weak and limp. She couldn’t even stand.
“I wonder how many treasures Gara will offer to ransom your head. I’m looking forward to it.”
Kursa walked toward Singri with a cold laugh.
At the same time, more than a thousand White Stork knights died beneath the side blades of the incubus soldiers.
Broken limbs and blood mixed together, creating a horrifying scene.
Kursa raised his side blade high, preparing to chop off Singri’s head.
Just then, a hooked scythe-spear came flying down and blocked his attack.
“Is this never-ending?”
Kursa glared furiously at the flying weapon.
“I hope I’m not too late.”
A man clad in armor descended from the sky.
He was Dios, ruler of the Crescent Empire—and Tadefin, the Eighth Sequence, the Steel Angel.
Davis had first encountered him in Chapter 205.
“Little Davis, take that girl to be treated. Leave the rest to me.”
Tadefin glanced at Singri before speaking to Davis.
“Understood!”
Davis nodded, then picked Singri up and carried her away.
“Who are you?”
Kursa stared at Tadefin.
“The man who’ll take your life within three moves.”
Tadefin didn’t take Kursa seriously at all.
The moment he finished speaking, Tadefin pulled the hooked scythe-spear from the ground.
Then he lunged toward Kursa.
“Clang!”
A metallic tremor rang out.
Kursa’s side blade blocked the spear’s hook.
Tadefin twisted his wrist. The reverse hook of the scythe-spear caught Kursa’s side blade and sent it flying.
Then Tadefin activated his Sequence Power.
The hooked scythe-spear in his hand instantly lengthened and pierced straight through Kursa’s abdomen.
“I said I’d take your life within three moves. And I meant within three moves.”
Tadefin’s voice was cold.
Kursa lowered his head and stared at the scythe-spear embedded in his abdomen. His face was filled with disbelief.
Tadefin pulled the weapon free.
The reverse hook tore through Kursa’s internal organs, ripping open a massive wound.
His intestines were dragged out and twisted by the hooked spear. A mass of blood sprayed into the air.
“Thud!”
Kursa collapsed at Tadefin’s feet.
Tadefin lifted his scythe-spear and stood guard over the breach in White Stork’s wall.
He had the imposing presence of one man holding the pass against ten thousand enemies.
