28 A general in the field should not be bound by distant orders.

"He seems to have been standing there for quite some time."

"Do you think he can read lips? If he understood what we were talking about just now, wouldn’t that be troublesome?"

"Brother-in-law, you’re not thinking about making a move on the Twilight Tower Master’s servant, are you?"

"No, just taking precautionary measures. If you all hesitate to act, I can do it. This is my old line of work."

"Quit joking, you two—he’s coming over."

The servant crossed the bustling street, entered the café, politely declined the server’s inquiry with a smile, and walked straight toward Leon.

His purposeful approach made Leon and the others more certain of one thing: this servant—or rather, the Twilight Tower Master—was specifically here for them.

"Greetings, everyone. I am Caid, the personal attendant of the Twilight Tower Master. It’s an honor to meet the elite leaders of the Dragon Clan here in Sky City."

Elite Leaders of the Dragon Clan:

Roswitha √

Isa √

Claudia √

Leon ×

Great. It seemed this man called Caid couldn’t read lips at all, Leon idly mused.

"Hello, Caid. May I ask what business the Tower Master has with us?" Isa inquired.

Given the Twilight Tower Master’s status and prestige, it was unlikely they would dispatch their personal servant without justifications.

Was it time for another secret Dragon King meeting?

As expected, Caid nodded slightly and replied,

"Have you all heard about the regime change within the human Empire?"

Oh dear.

Guess what?

Not only were they aware of the rebellion against the Empire, but three out of the four people before him had been directly involved in it.

"Just a little bit," Leon answered with a serious expression.

Roswitha sneaked a glance at Leon.

Oh, just a little bit, huh, you sneaky dog? Why aren’t you bragging now?

Leon caught his wife’s gaze and raised an eyebrow, as if to say, "What else do you want me to say?"

After this brief unspoken exchange between them, they heard Caid continue,

"Since you’ve already heard about the recent events in the human Empire, I imagine you’ve also anticipated the significant transformation this unprecedented war will soon undergo."

"However, intelligence from the Dragon Clan frontlines has revealed that the upheaval in the human Empire has uncovered a thirty-year-long dark secret."

"This secret involves certain Dragon Kings, and if handled improperly, it could make the already precarious internal relations among the Dragon Clan even more hostile."

"Therefore, the Master has convened a Dragon King meeting. Originally, we planned to send message dragons to each of your territories to deliver the news, but we were informed that all of you happened to be in Sky City, so I decided to visit."

Leon and the other three exchanged glances.

Earlier, when Leon had revealed his true identity to Isa, he had also mentioned the conspiracy between the Empire and the Dragon Clan.

So everyone here already knew that the "thirty-year-long dark secret" Caid referred to was this very matter.

Indeed, what had started as a life-and-death war had been prolonged unnecessarily by those who saw a profit in it, leading to more senseless sacrifice and bloodshed.

This was intolerable for both humans and dragons alike.

As Caid mentioned, if this matter wasn’t handled properly, the various factions within the Dragon Clan would grow increasingly hostile toward one another.

At that point, external enemies wouldn’t even need to act—internal strife alone would bring them to ruin.

One of the most ancient races on the Samael Continent would face an unprecedented catastrophe.

In the past, Leon couldn’t have cared less about any internal Dragon Clan conflicts. If those big-winged lizards wanted to blast each other with Dragon Flame mouth to mouth, he wouldn’t bat an eye—he might even applaud.

The problem was... his wife, child, and numerous in-laws were all part of the Dragon Clan.

If internal warfare escalated, it would sooner or later affect Roswitha and the others.

Leon didn’t want to wake up one day regretting not stepping in to mediate relations among the Dragon Clan while he had the chance.

So... Leon thought he must attend that meeting.

With this in mind, Leon looked toward Roswitha and the others.

Exchanging silent glances, everyone quickly understood each other’s thoughts.

"Lead the way, Caid."

---

Twilight Tower, Summit Conference Hall.

When Leon and the others arrived, a considerable number of Dragon Kings had already gathered.

Far more than the meeting held last time regarding Constantine.

Among them were quite a few "old acquaintances."

Leon’s gaze fell on the elder seated at the most central spot on the left side of the conference table.

"Thunder Dragon King... Odin."

He had participated in expeditions to the Far North alongside Roswitha’s grandmother. As a figure even older and more powerful than Constantine, he enjoyed absolute prestige and authority at such Dragon King councils.

Beside him was a relatively younger Dragon King—Odin’s friendship between generations, the Sands Dragon King, Morgan.

Noticing Leon’s gaze, Morgan straightened up, glanced over with a smile, and waved.

Leon blinked briefly in surprise but nodded in acknowledgment.

"Old man, he’s here," Morgan said softly.

Hearing this, Odin, who had been resting with eyes closed, slowly opened his eyes. A deep, imposing aura radiated instantly from his ancient and austere dragon pupils.

However, Odin merely gave Leon a cursory glance before looking away, without initiating any interaction. Leon, naturally, didn’t attempt any greetings either.

Besides Odin and Morgan, there were others among the gathered Dragon Kings who also seemed somewhat familiar—not because they had attended the last meeting regarding Constantine, but because Leon had crossed paths with them during his campaigns with the Dragon Slayer Army.

"I recognize those guys," Leon murmured.

Following his gaze, Roswitha, as a fellow member of the Dragon Clan, recognized them too, even if there were no formal ties.

"Oh, they’re some of the clan leaders active on the human-dragon warfronts. Why?"

"I’ve faced them in battle," Leon replied.

"In battle?" Isa chimed in.

"Brother-in-law, aren’t you hailed as the strongest Dragon Slayer? Are you telling me there were Dragon Kings who survived fighting you?"

Leon withdrew his gaze from the group and gave a helpless chuckle, sighing.

"That’s the thing: back then, whenever I was about to take them out, I’d be forced to halt the attack because of orders from the Empire. That’s how they got away."

"A general in the field should not be bound by distant orders," Claudia remarked casually.

Leon shrugged. "Looking back, though, these must have been among the Dragon Kings secretly collaborating with the Empire."

Since this meeting was to address those "dirty dealings" in the human-dragon war, it made sense for these profit-driven Dragon Kings to be here.

As Leon and the others were talking, many others in the hall were murmuring among themselves.

But suddenly, the sound of a chair scraping lightly against the floor caused all other conversations to abruptly cease, plunging the room into silence.

All eyes turned toward the source of the sound—

Odin.

The imposing elder Dragon King slowly rose and began walking toward the entrance of the hall.

As he passed by certain Dragon Kings, they visibly tensed, even holding their breaths.

Every Dragon King in the room fixated on the Thunder Dragon King’s movements, fearing he might stop in front of them—

Because that would mean trouble.

Especially for the group seated on the far side of the table. This meeting was essentially an "indictment" against them, and who knew if the Thunder Dragon King might bypass official proceedings and "privately handle" them instead?

"Who’s he going to confront—"

"Shh!! Be quiet. Don’t make a sound."

A few younger Dragon Kings whispered among themselves before being sternly hushed by an elder Dragon King.

No one dared misstep when Odin appeared to be in no mood for nonsense.

Thud—thud—

The heavy, deliberate sound of footsteps came to a sudden halt. He stood before someone.

The gathered Dragon Kings exhaled collectively in relief, yet their curiosity was piqued—

Why had Odin singled out that particular individual...

The Silver Dragon Prince.
